  • How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? Two boys, 3 and 5

How are your other kids doing this week? DS2 had a birthday this week so that was fun! Otherwise we’re all out of sorts from listing the house and keeping it clean for showings. DS2 turned 3 and he’s in a weird I-kinda-need-a-nap stage where he fights it so hard. He’s ok  some days but others he’s so grouchy if he doesn’t take it. He’s also mr independent now 😂

Rants/Raves:  Keeping the house nice for showings sucksss

    Concerns/Questions: natm

GTKY: How did your SO and/or your kids react when they found out about this pregnancy? MH was excited but doesn’t really show it. The boys were really excited, now they tell everyone there’s a baby in my belly

How are your other kids doing this week? they are both doing good!

Rants/Raves: This week has gone by quick which has been nice, but we've been so busy and jeez I feel like I need another vacation even though I just came off a 4day weekend.

Concerns/Questions: When did everyone transition their kiddos from crib to bed? We transitioned DS1 to mattress on the floor at 2.5 and then he was in a twin bed a few months later. DH feel like we don't need a second crib and wants to just transition DS2 to a toddler bed but he will only be 22 months when we want to move baby3 into his room (DS2 and baby 3 will be sharing a room). I feel like 22 months is just way too young, but maybe it's doable?

GTKY: How did your SO and/or your kids react when they found out about this pregnancy?
this was very much a surprise baby...DH actually got a bloody nose when I told him! DS1 was SUPER excited when we told him - he's pretty much been asking for another baby since I came home from the hospital with DS2.
  • @whatabout2ndbreakfast ugh I couldn't even imagine keeping a super clean house for showings with kids! Hopefully it will sell soon and you won't have to worry about it for too long!

    @chewie5990 a bloody nose? That's hilarious!
To answer your question, DD was just past 2 when we switched her into a toddler bed. We had tried completely removing the crib bottom so mattress was on the floor and she still escaped, so we figured why bother dealing with it and just switched her over. She learned to stay in bed while sleeping pretty fast (both my kids are athletes in their sleep. DS sleeps with his feet in the air on the crib rails. He will be staying in a crib forever muahaha).

How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? DD is 3.5, DS is 2 soon!
How are your other kids doing this week? Depends on if they slept alright or not. The last month, they've stopped listening to me. So I've turned into Loud Mommy.
Rants/Raves: Rave: just so happy that it seems like things are going to be OK with this baby! Obviously there's no guarantees but now I feel like I can start making tentative plans for the future again, and now I've started talking to the kids about the baby again.
Concerns/Questions: For Team Green moms, do you just wait until baby comes to go through old clothes? Since this baby is hopefully born in the opposite season of the year as DS (6 months difference in season) wondering if I should sort through some stuff early or just put it off for now.
GTKY: How did your SO and/or your kids react when they found out about this pregnancy? DH was baking with the kids while I showed him a board that said we were having a baby. He was like "oh that's nice" and went back to baking, haha! Kids were ecstatic when we told them although DS has no idea what he was ecstatic about.
  • @chewie5990 our son basically slept in our bed every night since he was 6 months old.  When he was around 1.5 we tried moving him into his crib and ended up taking the side off so it was a day bed.  At around 2 we just bought him a double.

How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? 1 son 2.5.

How are your other kids doing this week? He's been pretty good loving the nicer weather and hates that I am back to work.  He came home a little sick yesterday after daycare so he stayed home with my husband today but he seems to be all better now that he has had a day to rest.

Rants/Raves: my son's speech has exploded over the past few months which is really exciting!  He didn't really start to talk at all until he was 2 and even then it was only daddy and apple.  Now he's basically speaking in full sentences.

    Concerns/Questions: not right now

GTKY: How did your SO and/or your kids react when they found out about this pregnancy? My husband is fairly stoic in his reactions, we had just started trying and he was expecting it to be negative.  He literally didn't believe me when I said it was positive.  My son is back and forth between excitement and frustrated about it but all in all he isn't old enough to really comprehend what it means.

  • @sleepydaze I plan to go through my son's newborn and 0-3 month clothes in the next couple of months and will probably just wash it all to use. I only kept a small amount of my favorites anyway. We dressed him mostly gender-neutral in the very beginning anyway, so I'm sure most of it will be useful no matter what this baby is! I've already purchased a few new things for the new baby, but I'm already burnt out on gender neutral clothing, so I don't think I'll buy much more until after they're born.

@chewie5990 mine never even slept in the crib, whoops. He slept in a mattress directly on the floor from about 12 months, though, so I don't think 22 months is too young! Mattress on the floor is very useful (and cheap) if you're worried about the safety of a higher bed.

How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? 1 6yo boy

How are your other kids doing this week? I cut my son's and DH's hair myself, and this was the first time DS requested a specific haircut. Get this: after unsuccessfully trying to describe it to me, I told him I needed him to show me a picture, and he showed me a ROBLOX CHARACTER!  :D  :D  :D I did my best, but I'm no pro, so it's mediocre, lol. I've never "styled" his hair with gel before, but I'm trying now, and I need a lot of practice. He's happy, though, and it's not in his eyes, so it works!

Rants/Raves: Proud of myself for saving $50 on the new baby's car seat. It felt early to buy it, but I've been waiting for this Target trade-in event, and it's happening now, and the coupon you get from it only lasts until May 1, so I just bit the bullet and ordered it!

Concerns/Questions: If anyone else has started stocking up on baby stuff early, where/how are you organizing it? So far I'm keeping some just piled in an unfinished room and some in the packaging in our guest room, but it looks so cluttered and disorganized. I've collected some used items from FB marketplace like a mamaroo, bassinet, and nursing pillow, plus I just took advantage of the Target diapers/wipes deal. It feels waaaaay too early to be organizing it into drawers or anything but... I kind of want to do it just for fun.

GTKY: How did your SO and/or your kids react when they found out about this pregnancy? SO was really excited, which was fun, since I don't remember him being quite that excited when we found out we were pregnant with our son. My son was funny, when we told him he didn't react much at all, but a few days later he started talking super excitedly about the baby. I think he just needed some time to process the information, but since then he hasn't stopped blabbing! He's very excited, and keeps talking about how he's going to be such a great big brother, it's very cute!
  • @aerialmrs all of our stocking up stuff is just getting shoved in closets for now. Our nursery opens onto the deck so I want to keep it clear for as much of the summer as possible. I’ll probably go through and organize a month before my due date.

@chewie5990 we moved my daughter to her floor bed at 19 months. She got a “big girl bed” around 2.5. The floor bed was fun for her, but she didn’t nap well after (she’s never been a good sleeper though). She’s weirdly gotten way better at naps in the last few months. We’ll also be moving my youngest (1yr old) into a floor bed to have the crib available for this baby. She shares with her older sister but I’m a little nervous about her running around their room in the evenings... they already play together enough at bedtime I feel like they’ll never actually sleep!

@sleepydaze my daughter has also gone selectively deaf to me lately. I get the frustration! — I’ll go through the newborn stuff a month before my due date, but then wait on the bigger sizes. I was lucky to get a full set of boy and girl hand me downs from my sisters so once we know a gender I’ll grab the boxes I’ll need and bring them to the nursery closet. (Anyone else feel like you’re constantly going through baby clothes over and over??)

@whatabout2ndbreakfast showings with kids is so hard! I hope it sells fast so you don’t need to do too many. We sold when my daughter was turning 1 (we accepted the offer on her birthday!) and she had major diarrhea every morning we had showings. I spent all morning on those days putting fans and Febreze in her room to try and get the smell out before they showed up 🤦🏻‍♀️

How many kids do you already have, and how old are they? 2 girls, almost 3 and 1.

How are your other kids doing this week? My 1 year old just finally popped her first tooth! It was an awful teething time so I’m happy it’s out. Now for the rest of them 🤦🏻‍♀️

Rants/Raves: we went and saw a house yesterday which is exactly in the area we are looking for. It would be perfect for us but I don’t think we can afford it 😩 we probably won’t even offer cause there’s been a ton of interest and we wouldn’t be able to put in a competitive offer. (We’d basically offer asking. )

    Concerns/Questions:

GTKY: How did your SO and/or your kids react when they found out about this pregnancy? I can’t keep it a secret to do a “cute” reveal. I had to go to the store anyways so I picked up a digital dating test and some prenatals after I got the line on a dollar store test. When I got home I just said “I had a second reason to go out today” and popped them on the counter! My husband was a bit shocked but super excited. We always wanted our kids close in age so this was in our plan.
My older daughter is pretty excited and keeps flip flopping whether she wants another sister or a brother. It’s gonna be a long summer of answering baby questions.
  • @chewie5990 DS1 moved around 2 so DS2 could have the crib and that went fairly well. DS2 didn’t climb out of the crib until 2.5 or longer so he just moved into the bottom bunk not too long ago. The roaming out of the bed was annoying with him though lol
  • I guess I'm more worried about moving to the bed because they will be sharing a room. We really value smooth bedtimes over here - both boys are in bed and usually asleep by 7:30. It might be better to keep baby3 in our room longer while we take time to transition DS2 to a floor bed..and hope for the best. I'm so anxious about DS2 keeping baby3 up with all his antics if he isn't secured in his crib..I think for now we will just wait until baby3 is around 6 months and see how DS2 is doing..Not having to buy another crib would be nice.
  • @chewie5990 we have a similar dilemma! I'm a terrible sleeper and DH snores and is up at 5 everyday so I actually share a room with DS (age 2). We're hoping to get him into a room with DD (4) this summer before baby comes so I can share with baby but are nervous that he'll not nap if he shares a room or that they'll be up way later together/wake each other up with their random little ppl problems. I'm also nervous to switch his crib into a toddler bed if he's going to be running around unsupervised. I nap when he does so I need him to nap, lol.
  • @sleepydaze my boys  are actually easier to put to sleep together, although there was an adjustment period. DS1 doesn’t nap so DS2 gets the room to himself for that though.
  • ageaagea member
@whatabout2ndbreakfast how long was the adjustment period? Any tips? We have to combine them by this summer and neither has ever been an amazing sleeper but we’re in a decent spot right now so it’s less than ideal.

@sleepydaze its a little early for me to start preparing anything, we have done literally zero things for baby but may start after 20/25 weeks. I’d say there is no rush but will need to do before baby arrives at least for the newborn stuff. To cover gender neutral but feel excited about it I like to buy a couple bougie organic baby sleepers that I would love for either sex. I also have bought some bright Primary rompers in the past. With ds1 I didn’t like all the basic boring grey or white clothing options but had better luck with kiddo 2.

How many kids do you already have, and how old are they?
two, they are 2 and 4

How are your other kids doing this week?
Ds1 has been a handful. We’re going back to square one focusing on co-regulation because I’ve been losing my shit at his behavior 😞

    Rants/Raves:
ive got this endless headache and I don’t know how to help it.
I also get fatigued so easily!

GTKY: How did your SO and/or your kids react when they found out about this pregnancy?
H was floored and not super happy. We’d JUST agreed to start trying due to timing even though our hands are full so it was a little overwhelming.
Our big was excited and will consider no other names except “Nice Baby”. Our little only kind of gets it but seems happy.
