After 2.5 years of life and a year of quarantine life, Arlo is going to daycare! We're starting him at a school behind our house until the university child development center opens to full capacity (we're hoping that will be July) on April 26th, and I am just so stinkin' excited! (But also super nervous, because...my baby!)
For those of y'all who just started jobs (in the states) and haven't been with your workplace for a year, how are y'all gonna do leave for the birth of your child? Do employers typically keep the staff member or let them go if they don't have FMLA protection?
@sliztee I hope that he enjoys daycare! Will it be 5 days a week?
My random: I was just looking back at bump pics for DS and omg did it take forever for me to pop. I'm really tall and mostly hippy, so my stomach was flat and I stayed in the "maybe it's a burrito" phase until like week 18 🤣 I kind of hope that it looks more like a baby earlier this time around
@marbellie I’m fully aware that I’m 100% bloat right now but that doesn’t stop me from rubbing my belly when I’m at the store so people know I’m pregnant (and bloated) and not fat 😂
@jackie_dunny haha I love it. Honestly some of the bloat pics that I'm seeing online for first tri are really convincing bumps! I didn't get bloated last time, so I wonder if I will this time. If I do, I'll capitalize because afterall it's a pregnant belly regardless 🤣
@marbellie we’re gonna start MWF and see how it goes! We might go to all week, but I think 3 days/weeks will give him enough stimulation he doesn’t get at home until he goes to the university Pre-K full time. A bonus is that he’ll be in a Spanish immersion school, so he might even learn a little Spanish before we switch schools! ❤️
@marbellie I'm 10 weeks today and probably some of it is bloat but there's a legit bump there. I was huge with my son and I think my body is like OH HERE WE GO AGAIN lol. I'm glad I'm wfh so that people don't notice before I'm ready to share my news
@sliztee we started DS 3 days at daycare last month too (17 months) and it's the perfect level of stimulation. It's so helpful for us too since we were both working full time with no childcare
@sliztee I asked HR about this. As Im a physician my job is a little more protected. They said if it was less than a year I couldnt use FMLA obviously, but I could still use short term disability and my PTO until short term disability kicks in. I dont know how much time my job is going to give me. Im still waiting to tell them until probably after the first trimester with my history of previous losses.
@chartput Thanks for responding! That's about what I could research based on Minnesota standards as well. My hope is that a job would consider the long game, but then again, I understand that they hired someone for the job...because they needed someone to work it haha
