  • EDD/ W+D: 6+5

Home or birth center: birth center

Helpful Tips/Advice if you’ve experienced either before: this is my first time. But I’ve had two natural births already, so I feel like I can handle it for sure.

If you have other kids, will they be at the birth?: right now, they’re not allowed at the birth center due to Covid. But I honestly wouldn’t bring them anyway 🤷‍♀️

Questions/Concerns? I’m a bit concerned about going home so soon. But I’ve never had any postpartum issues before so I think it’ll be fine!

What are you most looking forward to: oddly, going home soon! I don’t like being poked and prodded and woken up every few hours that first day at the hospital. I need sleep so bad after birth.

Home or birth center: Home ❤️

Helpful Tips/Advice if you’ve experienced either before: FTM so I'll take any advice!

If you have other kids, will they be at the birth?: No kids

Questions/Concerns? Right now no concerns feel very comfortable with my midwife and doula. I do have some christian hypnobirthing stuff I plan to do to prepare mentally.

What are you most looking forward to: Being home and in a safe space. No poking and prodding!

    Home or birth center: home

Helpful Tips/Advice if you’ve experienced either before: would love any tips for anyone who has experienced home birth! For my first I was at the birth center and was transferred due to exhaustion. Delivered vaginally so all went great. But Looking back, I think I would have paced myself more/not been so much in my head or in a rush to go to the birth center. Could have used more time at home I think.

If you have other kids, will they be at the birth?: super undecided. I’m hoping my mom will be here so if it’s during the day she can watch her but if it’s the middle of the night or early morning and she’s asleep will just let her snooze. Just don’t want any sounds to scare her! haha.  If we have enough timing then maybe drop her off at my brother in laws? She’s also such a sweetie, having her there could help me. She’s been rubbing my back when I’m 🤮 saying “sorry mommy. Love you mommy”. Natural born doula haha.

Questions/Concerns? Just excited and nervous. Hoping all goes well. They say it labor can be quicker with each kid so hoping that’s true and it’s quick!

What are you most looking forward to: the whole experience and seeing what my body can do! being in the comfort of my own home, familiar surroundings. Not being interrupted every few minutes or every hour like I was at the hospital. Not worrying about COVID contamination etc.
  • @cd1122 ooh if you have any of the hypnobirthing resources and are able to share or let me know where to look, I would love to try that!

@tanyadk There is a christian hypnobirthing app on the plaaystore/apple store which is what I plan to use since I'm christian. But there are lots of other courses and resources for hypnobirthing if you're not. Lots of my local doulas/midwives promote their classes/programs.
  • I've used hypnobirthing to help fall asleep in the past. My DD was suppose to be a birth center and then I moved to CT and the closest one was over an hour away with her due December.  I did have a midwife through an OBGYN office, did an unmedicatee waterbirth at the local hospital.  I need antibiotics before giving birth anyways. With my DS I happened to find the same midwife who opened her own practice and did the same thing.
  • thank you @cd1122 I’ll look into it!

    Home or birth center: Home

Helpful Tips/Advice if you’ve experienced either before: I had both of my girls at home (4 yr and 2 yrs) and hope to do the same this third time around. With my first I had initially planned to deliver at the birth center but then when I learned that I could receive the same care in the comfort of my home, I went that route instead.  I loved that I got to meet all 3 of the midwives and student midwives during my prenatal appointments because it was important to me to be comfortable with the people attending my birth. To prepare our first time, my husband and I took a Bradley Method class.

If you have other kids, will they be at the birth?: Probably not...I value having my husband's support during labor and I think he'd be a bit distracted if he was also watching the kids :)

Questions/Concerns? My doula once told me that mindset is everything when it comes to birth. She encouraged me to frame the way I think about my labor in a positive and affirming way. For example, "I'm excited" instead of "I'm scared", or "I feel pressure" instead of "I feel pain", or "baby is taking the time they need to arrive" vs "this is taking forever". And so forth. This helped me a lot to stick with my plan of going natural... especially when other people were questioning my choice.

What are you most looking forward to: I would love to have a water birth. The last two times, I climbed out of the tub for the final pushes and delivered on the couch lol
  • *lurking hospital mom*

I just wanted to mention that hypnobirthing was amazing for us (MH and I learned so much and were able to tackle laboring medicine free up to the point in my plan well, the L&D nurse was surprised that it was our first time). Also, I agree with @tess2021, shifting the perspective on things is important. Going in trusting your body and it's ability to handle it is very important too, just know that you're built for it and a rockstar, so don't fear 😁
  • EDD/ W+D: nov 2nd

Home or birth center: hospital. I will have a cesarean due to my history.

Helpful Tips/Advice if you’ve experienced either before: no hospital bag list ever advices to pack clippers. With our prolonged stay it started becoming an issue soon.

If you have other kids, will they be at the birth?: nope. I hope to schedule the c section when she is at daycare

Questions/Concerns? Concern- usually the dad and siblings get to stay at an in-hospital hotel. At the moment this service has been scrapped due to covid. Really hope hope this will resume by November or I’ll have to stay away from my family for the whole hospital stay.

What are you most looking forward to: I didn’t expect my husband to become the awesome father he is over literally a few minutes. I’m now looking forward to my child transforming into a wonderful, protective, caring big sister.
  • Thank you so much @marbellie and @tess2021. I agree, mindset is important! Will keep that in mind.
