Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Could he be teething?

My LO will be 4 months in a couple days. He is my first and I’m trying to figure out if he’s teething. He’s been drooling but not a crazy amount. He is waking up more frequently at night. And now the last two days he will just start wailing out of nowhere during the day and is very hard to settle down. I can see his teeth behind the gums on top and bottom but don’t feel anything poking through. Just trying to figure out what’s going on with my poor boy.

Re: Could he be teething?

  • Hi! Looks like teeth but here are two variants: 1. they may come in right away and 2. it may take some indefinite time for them to pop out. Such signs as drooling, crying for no reason, loss of appetite, etc. can appear much earlier than the first teeth. It may even take up to 3 months between the first discomfort to the first tooth. Usually, kids start teething at age of 6 months approximately, but these are the average norms set by the AAP. All you can do is relieve your baby's discomfort in all possible ways and wait. Recently I've written about baby teeth coming in greater detail. You can read it here: https://caringparentschoice.com/ultimate-teething-guide/
