Testing for Toxo

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone did testing for toxoplasmosis while they were pregnant? My husband is a hunter, and I feel like I am around a lot of raw meat, so I am constantly worried about contamination and catching it. I’m 23 weeks. Has anyone done the testing or tested positive while pregnant?

  • Hi all,

This isn’t a thing. The CDC website says nothing other than wash your hands after handling raw meat, just like you always should. Any other source I could find only talks about getting it from consuming under cooked meat with no differentiation between wild game or store bought. Honestly, I consider the wild game we harvest to be safer than store bought meat. I know exactly where it came from, exactly how it was processed, exactly how it was stored and transported, etc.

I’ve butchered wild game while pregnant, and we eat probably quite a bit more wild meat and store-bought meat than average. This concern has never even crossed my mind.
