Treat yourself Tuesday

Ok so I made this one up. It’s super quiet around here so I’m going to start finding topics to get us talking! I’m super hopeful this (somewhat little) group can migrate to FB in a couple months and really get to know each other better. In the meantime, let’s talk....

What are you doing these days for self-care, to keep yourself going, to treat yo self?
Where are you finding regular pockets of joy to make it through these 9 months + pandemic?
Share some inspo!

@whatabout2ndbreakfast how soon do you move into the new house?
what is this 1000h outdoor challenge??
  • @agea No one else is allowed, lol, BUT I encourage you to do it too! I'm actually a bit nervous for some reason, and I am feeling the guilt pretty hard, but I'm committed. I'm going.

    @krash_ do it!

@muggsd the math sounds like punishment, but to each their own! I’ve been playing a lot of solo Yahtzee lately as my treat... the heart wants what it wants 😂
@kissyfir1586. YES to gelato. I haven’t had good gelato in a long time. And yes the mile walk plus gelato is like a perfect situation.
@chewie5990 sounds like you guys have a good balance. I need to get back into my bath habit. Remind me what’s the deal w pregnant baths? Are they just not supposed to be too hot? I always forget the rule.
  • @agea our settlement is early June! Will have a solid date soon!! The 1000 hour challenge is trying to spend 1000 hours outside. There’s a bunch of FB groups for it and a website too I think?

@muggsd that’s awesome you’re exercising your mind! I also would not find math very relaxing but I do like a good puzzle or sudoku

@kissyfir1586 a gelato sounds amazing! I’ve been stopping at this cute coffee shop to get a small cold brew lately. It’s all my caffeine for the day but it’s so delicious

@CanadianGamerMom I skip chores as self care too. I feel bad Bc h ends up doing them solo but I’m ok if they’re just undone right now.
i also have early risers, it’s brutal.
  • @agea my understanding from talking to my OB is that it's all about body temperature, so if you start to feel sweaty or light headed then it's too hot. Her rule of thumb was that if the water is hot enough to turn your skin pink then it's too hot and she recommends to drink ice water to help regulate body temperature. More caution should be taken during the first trimester, but 2nd and 3rd are less risky.

I’m a big shopper! I love to shop for DD and myself. It’s totally therapy for me. Also DH and I are toying with a vacation end of may to celebrate 5 years married (9 years together)... if we actually do that it’ll be the first time we’ve basically ever left DD for that long and let me tell you it is greatly deserved 😅😅😅

ETA: I’m also pretty obsessed with my camera and taking pictures which I never recognize as self care but it totally is.
  • I have been planning an easter egg hunt for the past few weeks. I love throwing parties and I really miss it.  It'll just be my son and two of his friends but I'll take what I can get at this point.  Egg hunt, egg painting, and some planting on Sunday morning while the kids run around in the backyard.
  • my self care is my exercise. I don’t get it every day, but about every other day. On Sundays I make sure I get an hour to myself to exercise while DH takes DS outside to play. I also need 10 minutes to myself to drink my coffee in the morning.

  • I make sure I go to the gym, as much as I don't want to some days, I always feel better afterward! I've been treating myself to good quality nail polish, too. I just got some pretty pastel shades for spring that I am excited to wear.
  • What is self-care? In all seriousness, before pregnancy my self-care was working out. I used to do it daily for an hour. That has slacked off a bit. I need to get in the habit again. I also enjoy gardening, pulling weeds feels therapeutic. Weird?

  • @gutsysneakers love gardening, pulling weeds is for sure therapeutic! When I was working at a behavior health hospital we had a garden and patients had a group where they pulled weeds lol. Definitely missing gardening this year since we’re moving
  • I'm so jealous of all of you who have self-care as working out! I so wish I could be that person! Instead working out is in the torture care category  :D
  • Oh boy, I feel like self-care is non existent these days! I did splurge a bit on some new maternity clothes which i didn't really need but they are cute! So that counts right?
  • @gutsysneakers I also love gardening! I cannot wait to get back out there and get my garden and front porch and back deck all done up and colorful and happy looking again!
