    @chgilmore it’s just unbelievable. I feel sorry for everyone in Texas, and hope the majority of people keep doing the right thing. As far as I’m concerned, the ONLY thing that makes me feel reasonably comfortable with going out in public is the expectation that people will be wearing masks.

    @fifilala516 @Lisa3379 I'm very confused about it. Houston is the first city in the US to have confirmed cases of all 3 or 4 major new variants and they're just? Not going to try to stop it?

    i follow a handful of businesses in austin and houston that have all put out statements saying just b/c Abbot says they are 100% open and maskless they disagree and will continue to operate with masks and at lower capacity. it's effing wild to think now is the time when hardly any of the population is vaccinated. i think florida and mississippi are following suit?

    @fameonmain2 luckily I live in Seattle, not Texas, and I don't have any family there either, but I am still concerned about the potential precedent it may set.
    @inthewoods23 yeah....I read an article today in the Seattle Times about herd immunity and that while there are pros and cons to more of the population getting exposed, there are definitely way more cons to it
    @anniemarie887 very thankful for individual businesses listening to science! FL was already there months ago, no gov. oversight, just leaving it in the hands of private businesses.

    @anniemarie887 I'm pretty sure most national chains will operate that way. If the state their HQ is in still has a mandate, they'll carry that out to all locations. I would not start being more open with things/restrictions until you get to the younger population and those without underlying health issues vaccinated. Those are more likely to be the people that want to be out and about.

    I agree in getting things opened back up with the economy going to shit, but we need to be smart about it too. Like why not start with any and all businesses can be open to 25% capacity and have certain types of stores/what not that could be 50% or more if it was easily feasible. Don't just open the floodgates!

    @inthewoods23 absolutely, these are small independent restaurants/coffee shops - quite honestly the ones who are feeling the squeeze the most. i'm constantly conflicted on it, i'm a business owner for a business that can still function virtually but my gross profit yoy dropped 13% - which ouch. i am depending on people having jobs and being able to pay their bills.

    @anniemarie887 yeah I get that. we weren't supposed to be "locked down" for this long. I think we can reopen at 25/50% safely with masks and distancing, along with some government support so they don't close from loss in income. ugh I can get pretty upset about it all! #endrant
