Trying to Get Pregnant

WTO Fri-YAY 2.12

**This is a thread that welcomes all regardless of where they are at in their TTC journeys. Please be mindful of topics that are discussed that could be hurtful to those going through tough times. Mention of children or pregnancies of others should have a TW (trigger warning) and be in a spoiler if possible, and only be mentioned if it is extremely pertinent to the conversation. R/R: it's cold and rainy and I'm over it. This weekend it's getting colder and rainier. (Is that a word?)

CS/Q: I normally get pretty distinct temp rises after ovulation. However, I feel like my thermometer favors temps, particularly 97.59, as shown by FIVE points this cycle already, and this is typical for all my recent cycles-I had 4 in a row last time. Should I bother with getting a different thermometer? Or not worth it? (Battery is pretty new, so it's not that, thermometer is 2+ yrs old) I almost feel like it's getting worse over time, and favoring that temp more and more. I don't do OPKs so I rely on temps to ID when I ovulated. It just seems *off* that my temp is that consistent, especially when I have kinda crappy sleep. I don't buy it.

    WAYDTGKU: OPK, Flo app, prenatals

R/R: I am so happy it's Friday...of a three day weekend, no less!

CS/Q: This is my first cycle using the ClearBlue ovulation predictor. It's been 7 straight days of high fertility, with no peak. Has this happened to anyone else? I read that 25 percent of women had 5-9 days of high fertility, but I am overly concerned about everything...

  • **lurking today**

@fifilala516 I am pretty sure this happens to @sienna221 but I only got 2 days of high before my peak when I used it last cycle.
  • Month/Cycle: 1

    CD: 115

    WAYDTGKU: OPKs, PNVs, charting/temping

R/R: It's just so cold. We've already reached our high at 11 am- 29, with a wind chill of 19. Also, I'm trying to cut back on my caffeine consumption, so I might be more grumpy about the cold than is strictly necessary.

CS/Q: I started temping again today, but I think it's going to be challenging. TW from here (LO mentioned), so I'll put the rest in a spoiler.

My temp this morning was 97.25. Historically, I never hit the 97s until after O. It very well could have changed- I haven't temped since early 2016. It's also possible I could have Oed in the last few days and missed it. But also, DS is in a new, fun toddler sleep regression, so he ended up coming to bed with us around 2:45 last night, and I just don't sleep as well when he's with us. And then I had weird dreams about getting a bad temp because I wasn't sleeping as well. :expressionless: Most nights he doesn't come to bed with us, but he's been waking up between 2 and 3:30 pretty much every night, and I can spend as long as an hour some nights betting him back to sleep. I read Fertility Friend's section about this, so I'm just going to do the best I can, but I feel a little unsure about how effective my temping will be right now.

  • **lurking from tww***

@fifilala516 I always have a lot of High (flashing smiley) days. Every cycle I’ve used them...I think it’s been 3...the first day I’ll get low and the very next day is always a high. And then it’s always been lots of days of high (6d, 5d, 6d) in a row before a peak. But I did end up getting a peak every time.
  • @mrs_tacos see spoiler. *TW LC mentioned*

I have crappy sleep and routinely wake up MOTN, and never have 4 hours of solid sleep before I take my temp. It's been fine so far, and I've gotten distinct shifts. But see my post above about my thermometer starting to favor temps...not sure about that... probably a separate issue for me

Anyway....I pumped MOTN for months and months (until DD was almost 1) and would essentially be wide awake at 1 am for 30+ min every night (I woke up at 5 am) and it didn't affect my temps too badly. Still was able to get a clear shift.
  • @pajamstagrams That makes me feel a lot better! Also, my old thermometer definitely began favoring temps when it was about a year old. I ended up getting a new one after a few months, because I just couldn't be sure I was getting an accurate temp.

  • @pajamstagrams have you changed your thermometer's battery recently? That could be why it's favoring temps.

@fifilala516 you could just have high natural estrogen which is above the threshold for the test. I don't think you should worry about it.

@mrs_tacos I'm shivering just reading your update.

    Month/Cycle: 13/14

    CD: 7

WAYDTGKU: natural cycle while we do more tests ordered by TEW, so the usual: bbt, OPKs, HIO EOD, lots of vitamins and supplements for both MH and I.

R/R: rave --- it's Friday and I have Monday off, so a long weekend. Weeeee! Alas, I'm probably going to do a bit of work on Monday as I've taken a few days off so I'm feeling a bit behind. I don't mind doing a bit of work on weekends/holidays because I get to really focus on stuff since there are no meetings / no one else is working & pinging me on Slack.

CS/Q: nothing to show yet; will start getting serious about it this weekend since AF is finally fully over.

@pajamstagrams do you temp vaginally or orally? 2 years might be time for a new thermometer but I wouldn’t have originally thought so

@fifilala516 I believe that’s standard for clear blue to do that. Never used them myself but I feel like I’ve seen people ask that question a lot on here lol

    @mrs_tacos wowee that’s cold!

@acleverusername yay for a three day weekend! Make sure you get some relaxing time in before diving in to that weekend work!

    Month/Cycle: 1/1

WAYDTGKU: PNV, SMEP, charting (FF, BBT, CM, CP), OPKs

R/R: I got my vaccine today! My arm is the teensiest bit sore but just feels like a bruise ie only hurts when I touch it. I feel sleepy as well but not sure if that’s just tiredness from my first week back to working full time since about Sept 2019 lol and literally just now I started feeling really warm but just checked, no fever. I know these are all common symptoms of the vaccine so it’s all good! Proof it’s working I guess lol

CS/Q: ETA: forgot my chart again

  • @jackie_dunny @acleverusername orally, so it should be a little more "rough"...I might just buy a new one. The battery is maybe a couple months old, maybe 6 months?? I remember replacing it at some point recently.
  • @pajamstagrams I'd vote new thermometer. I just replaced my mabis (mavis? whatever that one popular brand was) one that was 2.5 years old because it was starting to favor temps. I got the $10-ish PreMom one and it's been fine so far. I switched thermometers late last cycle.

@fifilala516 since this is your first cycle using it, I wouldn't read too much into it because you don't know what your normal is yet. I haven't used that specific test, only the cheapie OPKs, but I know there's a lot of variety in that some women have long buildups, some have super quick buildups, some have blink-and-you'll-miss-it peaks, some have 2-3 day peaks. Once you've used it for a few cycles you should have a better idea of what's normal for you.

@mrs_tacos gotta love those dreams - i tend to get the ones where I dream I overslept my alarm and wake up with a jolt a solid 3 or 4 times in the 20 minutes before the alarm actually goes off. I hope you're able to get good sleep again soon and it doesn't affect your temps too much.

@acleverusername same, I'll probably try to pick up extra freelance work Monday since I have the time and no assignments/classes due Monday, especially since my regular part-time job's hours are very cut right now. I hope your not-quite-day-off is productive!

@jackie_dunny yay vaccine! My inlaws get their first doses next week.

R/R: I have a long weekend from school this weekend, so no classes Monday, which is nice because it gives me time to spread out my homework a bit. I need to remember to take out the meat tomorrow to thaw for Sunday's dinner. We're going to use one of the pieces of prime rib we have left in the freezer from Christmas time for a nice Valentine's dinner.

CS/Q: nothing super exciting, I think I'm looking at an O next week but who knows. Keeping my fingers crossed for next week because that would be another "shorter" cycle for me, which would be fantastic.

  • @fantasyflyte what kind of freelance work will you pick up?

  • I was just skimming through these comments about the clear blue OPKs. Has anyone else had the problem of not having ANY flashing smileys/“high” fertility? I have had empty circles all week and then this morning it is just solid/“peak” fertility. I have suspected I may have a defective kit, because the very first day I used it I got an error message but thought maybe I didn’t follow the directions or something. It’s my first time using this type with the “high” and “peak” fertility.

@fifilala516 and @rgn12 like some of the others have said, I think the number of high days varies from woman to woman.  My RE really trusts the peak day enough to use it to schedule IUIs.  Most cycles I get 2-3 high days and then peak (usually started testing on day 14/15 and would O on day 19/20). This cycle I started testing much earlier (CD10) because I took Clomid (CD 3-7), and still haven't peaked but got "high fertility" all week.  Which makes sense if the Clomid didn't work.  I wouldn't have peaked in a natural cycle until next week.  We'll see how it plays out, I started monitoring BW this morning which might happen daily until I O (if we didn't miss it).  I'm curious to keep taking the OPKs too and see if they line up with my serum levels, but I'm running out and I believe you're not supposed to use a new kit mid-cycle.
