PGAL 2/7

This is a check in for those of us who are experiencing pregnancy after a loss (miscarriage, chemical pregnancy, stillbirth,  child loss, to name a few). Hopefully we can all lend support to each other through the  hormone filled craziness that is pregnancy!

Just a reminder: there is a general loss trigger warning on this entire thread.

1. How far along are you? Any milestones?

2. How are you feeling (pregnancy symptoms)?

3. How are you feeling (anxiety wise)?

4. When is your next appointment?

5. Rants/raves/whatever (Dear diary posts and venting are welcome and encouraged here)

Re: PGAL 2/7

  • 1. How far along are you? Any milestones?  9 weeks tomorrow

    2. How are you feeling (pregnancy symptoms)? I'm always tired, food aversion is in full swing (NOTHING appeals to me), and nausea seems to hit in the evenings after dinner.

    3. How are you feeling (anxiety wise)? I'm feeling ok! I worry a lot about being on antidepressants/antianxiety meds, but my RE said it's safe, safer than it would be for me to go off them. It's a very low-risk drug and my mental health also needs to be a priority.

    4. When is your next appointment? March 3, but I am going to call my RE to see if there's anything I need to do before then (blood work, another u/s). 12 weeks+ seems late in the game for an intake appointment at the OB. Anxious to see baby again on an ultrasound!

    5. Rants/raves/whatever (Dear diary posts and venting are welcome and encouraged here) I had a dream that I was bleeding and it freaked me out. Still checking every time I go to the bathroom for blood, but I doubt I am the only person that does that.

  • @emeraldduchess You aren’t alone with checking for blood. Are you planning to do the NIPT? If so I think you need to go in for bloodwork before 12 weeks.
  • 1. How far along are you? Any milestones? 8w3d and my next milestone is 14 weeks.

    2. How are you feeling (pregnancy symptoms)? My left hip is bothering me. I had severe issues with my hips last pregnancy but my hips is hurting in a different spot so I think I’m going to go see a PT as soon as they can get me in. I don’t want my pain to get as bad as it did last time. My nausea comes in waves and is very manageable. I have mild food aversions but I can’t seem to eat many leftovers which isn’t really unusual but it’s definitely kicked up a notch.

    3. How are you feeling (anxiety wise)? My anxiety cycles around from feeling confident to feeling panicked. Although, I have managed to keep myself from getting as worked up as last week.

    4. When is your next appointment? 2/18  I’m hoping they will do a quick US in the room just to check for a HB.

    5. Rants/raves/whatever (Dear diary posts and venting are welcome and encouraged here)  My dog is driving me nuts. I need someone to just come train him for me. He is super smart but soooo stubborn.

  • @emeraldcity1214 I do want to do the NIPT screening. What I've read says anytime after 9 weeks, so I should be ok. I'll still call my RE to see if they can do it there or if I need to call the OB and push for them to see me earlier. It does seem weird to me that the OB can't/won't see me until March 3. They seemed to think that because I had my first ultrasound there's no rush. I'm still surprised since I am AMA which I *think* puts me in the high risk category.
I hear you on the smart but stubborn dog. Mine is the same. She knows commands, she just doesn't care about following them unless she gets a treat.
  • @emeraldduchess I have taught him how to sit, stay, and to not go through doors before me (so he knows his place in the pack). I have even taught him to go pee when I say pee and poop when I say poop. He still has accidents in my house. I’m going insane. He is 5 months too. So still little but he gets everything else. Why can’t he get this?! We have had to confine him to a dog pen in the house to keep him from peeing and eating things.
  • @emeraldduchess I still totally check for blood every time I go. You're not alone.

    1. How far along are you? Any milestones?  10w3d heard a heartbeat on our home doppler this week.  Also I have my last progesterone shot on Wednesday!

    2. How are you feeling (pregnancy symptoms)? Neausa I very infrequent. Mostly just exhausted.  Also weirdly the spot on the top of my abdomen where DD pushed her butt the entire 3rd tri is getting sore when I'm sitting at work.

    3. How are you feeling (anxiety wise)?  It's on and off.  It was pretty high last week when my symptoms had pretty much gone away.  Hearing the heartbeat called them some.

    4. When is your next appointment? Today at 8.  It's just a boring intake appointment. Hoping I can get her to order another u/s even though we aren't doing any genetic testing.  Praying I don't have to wait until 20 weeks.  We are going to a boutique place sometime around 16 week, but that's not a full scan, just a little one so DD can go with.

    5. Rants/raves/whatever (Dear diary posts and venting are welcome and encouraged here)  it's so f-ing cold here.  I know it's Feb in MN, but we've been lucky this winter.  I don't want to step a foot outside. Thankfully DH filled my car yesterday

    Pregnancy Ticker

  • @Centralmnmom I have had a spot that has gotten sore near my belly button in past pregnancies. It can be really painful and downright annoying. I thought mine may have been from a hernia I was unaware of. It stopped happening about 3 pregnancies ago. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Now I get hip pain. It was my sacroiliac joints last time and I do feel a little bit of that occasionally but right now I’m struggling with the ball and socket joint on my left side of my hip. So I will likely head to the PT sooner rather than later to get some exercises for that. I want to be proactive about my pain this time. Last time I got to the point I was crawling up the stairs and barely able to lift my feet to walk so I was literally just shuffling around. DH was traveling once a month too so I was alone with all 3 of my kids for an entire week every month.
  • @emeraldduchess I ended up finding a new OB after my old one refused to see me before 13 weeks because I'd had a positive blood pregnancy test and there was "nothing else they could do."

I ended up finding an OB who listened to me and has seen me sometimes as often as weekly for my last three pregnancies. The pregnancy I left the old OB with I ended up losing because of a trisomy. I would have lost her before I saw them and they wouldn't have known the cause and I can't imagine how we would have kept trying after that (we'd already lost two).

If your OB won't listen to you, you might consider trying to find another.  <3

    1. How far along are you? Any milestones?  9w5d

    2. How are you feeling (pregnancy symptoms)? I think the nausea is letting up (but I'm also scared to take off the seabands in case they're working). But the exhaustion is increasing. And not being helped by insomnia.

    3. How are you feeling (anxiety wise)? I'm glad my OB offered to do a sono when I go in for NIPT testing in a few days because I'm starting to get anxious again even though we just saw the heartbeat last week. I think I'm nervous just from telling more people?

    4. When is your next appointment? Wednesday.

    5. Rants/raves/whatever (Dear diary posts and venting are welcome and encouraged here). My husband is being a rockstar. Yesterday was "my day" to get up with our son (we each get one day to sleep in on the weekend) and as soon as he got up, I went to bed to take a nap. And took another at nap time. Meanwhile he made food for nearly the whole week (buffalo chicken dip, shepherd's pie, corn bread, egg muffins)

  • @marymh80 Buffalo chick dip sounds delicious! I have Buffalo wings on my meal plan for this upcoming week. I love Buffalo sauce.
  • @emeraldcity1214 it could have used more sauce honestly! But I was happy for something different I didn’t hate. I’m not much of a fan of plain meat
  • 1. How far along are you? Any milestones? 10W4D. We found out we’re having a little boy 💙

    2. How are you feeling (pregnancy symptoms)? Slowly starting to feel like myself again! I’m still really tired and still throw up in the morning but it’s getting better

    3. How are you feeling (anxiety wise)? Actually pretty good overall :)

    4. When is your next appointment? On the 17th

    5. Rants/raves/whatever (Dear diary posts and venting are welcome and encouraged here)

  • 1. How far along are you? Any milestones?  10w6d. Baby graduated from an embryo to a fetus. Still not past the latest point of my previous miscarriages, so this doesn't really give me any reassurance.

    2. How are you feeling (pregnancy symptoms)? Better.

    3. How are you feeling (anxiety wise)? Worse. Possibly controversial topic, but due to the nature of my job and the fact that I am high risk - and after A LOT of careful consideration and conversation with my docs - I opted on Thursday to get the first COVID vaccine. I'm scheduled for the second dose on Feb. 25. Prior to getting the first dose, I was certain (excited even) that it was the right choice for me/us. But ever since I got it, my anxiety has been through the roof. I am absolutely petrified that I might have done harm to the tiny human living inside of me. It doesn't help that my pregnancy symptoms started lightening up a lot this week too (likely more a result of me approaching the end of the first tri than anything else, but my anxiety doesn't listen to reason right now). *sigh*

    4. When is your next appointment? February 15 - a week from today. No US but they should be checking baby's HB with the doppler which will give me a small amount of reassurance...

    5. Rants/raves/whatever (Dear diary posts and venting are welcome and encouraged here): I think I ranted enough in Q#3 already lol.

@emeraldduchess I am having the same issue with then morning sickness hitting hardest in the evenings after dinner. It's obnoxious! And the name "morning" sickness somehow trigger hormonal rage for me lol.
@emeraldcity1214 "super smart but sooooo stubborn" sounds like the same reason I keep butting heads with my 4 year old DD lol.
@Centralmnmom Tell me your thoughts on the home doppler? I've stopped myself from buying one before now because I'm afraid I won't be able to find the heartbeat and it will just freak me out even more and increase my anxiety. Do you have a good one you recommend? Also, we are considering a boutique this time around too. my OB office cut the optional 12 week US and it's killing me.

  • @JustAnotherUsername16 I got a doppler with my last pregnancy (after losing a pregnancy at 22 weeks). It was very helpful to me. HOWEVER, I'd strongly caution waiting until at least 12-14 weeks to get it.

I think I was around 14 weeks and was able to find the heartbeat pretty easily. I'm afraid if I got it any sooner, I might have had more anxiety.

And if you get one, watch youtube videos. There's a common artery that women find where they're actually listening to their own heartbeat instead of the babies and that can lead to freaking out that the HB is too slow.

The baby was WAY lower than I expected him to be!
  • @JustAnotherUsername16 home dopplers can definitely increase anxiety unnecessarily if you can't find a heartbeat.  We are still super early and baby is at or below the pubic bone.  Also if you have an anterior placenta it can make it hard to find.  I ordered a Sonoline from baby doppler.
I just had to remind myself that it's early and I may not find it.  If you think it would cause you more anxiety then I would wait until you are further along .

  • @ladylynn222 Yay for a little boy! 💙

@JustAnotherUsername16 I have had the same doppler for several years now. I found the HB at 8 weeks last time. I have tried several times this time and can’t find anything. I think baby is tucked further back in my uterus and low. It’s a personal choice but if you feel it will increase your anxiety, and it absolutely can, don’t get one.
  • @marymh80 thank you. 💚 I think they put me down for the first available intake appointment. They have several locations but only do intake appointments at one of them. I've already had initial blood work and u/s with my RE and I'm still under their care until my first OB appointment.
I think I'm also nervous since had a bad experience with my previous GYN. When I had my first loss they were, to put it nicely, complete jerks. Because it was at 5 weeks, they treated it like it wasn't real. The nurse on the phone told me I was basically just getting my period and not to call her again unless I was soaking through a pad every hour. I'm so sorry you've had an awful experience, too.
  • @emeraldduchess that's awful.  Hopefully this clinic will be a better fit.

    Pregnancy Ticker

  • 1. How far along are you? Any milestones?  10 weeks today.  This is further along than both of my miscarriges.  Now I'm waiting for the 12 week ultrasound since that's where issues were found with my third pregnancy.

    2. How are you feeling (pregnancy symptoms)? Waves of nausea and super tired

    3. How are you feeling (anxiety wise)? Anxiety is getting a little better.

    4. When is your next appointment? Midwife appointment tomorrow.

    5. Rants/raves/whatever (Dear diary posts and venting are welcome and encouraged here)  I'm super sick of snow...that's all.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @emeraldduchess I'm with you and everyone else on the checking for blood.  It's hard not to.

@JustAnotherUsername16 I'm sorry it's been tough since getting your first vaccine.  I'm not eligible in my state yet but have been thinking about what to do once I am.  I'd just remind yourself that there long-term effects of COVID are still unknown and you're doing what you think it right for you and your baby.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • I had my NIPT blood draw yesterday and the doctor let me take a peak while I was there. I got to see the baby moving around a good bit, so that was reassuring.

Now it's two weeks until my next appointment (and another big milestone, we lost our third baby around that time) and after that, my doctor has suggested I'll start being a "normal" patient and come less often. We'll see... I'm not sure I'll ever be comfortable waiting 4-6 weeks between appointments.

I've ordered a doppler so I can try to reassure myself at home. I had one last pregnancy, but passed it on to someone else.
  • @marymh80 I found the HB last night so you shouldn’t have any issues.
