Normal hcg levels but low progesterone?

I had my first appointment last Tuesday and I was 7w2d. My midwife had my hcg and progesterone levels checked with my blood work. I'm not sure why, as I've never had it done in past pregnancies and I don't have a history or miscarriages. Maybe it's my age? I'm 35 and this is baby #4. Anyways, my levels came back as 33,333 for hcg and 10.10 progesterone. The nurse called to tell me my progesterone is on the low side and they have now started me on 200mg prometrium/ day. I don't know much about this except what I read on google. Should I be worried? Does this mean I will most likely miscarry. Any of your personal stories would be great. I don't go back in until February 2 for my sono and I'm nervous.

I am sorry you are dealing with this stress. I only knew my progesterone with 3 of my pregnancies. With my daughter, my levels were checked, and my doctor didn't notice they were low (9.something) until I was over 9 weeks. (I immediately switched offices) and took progesterone for a week, and everything was fine. Tw, 3 years ago, my progesterone was around the same thing, and while I did lose the pregnancy, the baby had triploidy, so regardless of any progesterone level, loss was going to happen. My progesterone with my most recent pregnancy, who is know a 1 year old, my progesterone was 7.4. I didn't take supplements and he is perfectly healthy.

As for whether you should worry. That's hard to say. Sometimes, the progesterone is just low, and other times, the progesterone is low because there is a problem. Some providers don't even consider 10 to be low. I hope the best for you.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. Progesterone levels can be complicated and no, lower progesterone levels don’t automatically mean loss. Mine were around 11 with my now almost 2 year old. I took progesterone until 12 weeks and ended up having a healthy pregnancy.

luckily 10 is still considered pretty normal. the supplements should help a lot. I have taken them in my successful pregnancies as well and am on them again now for this pregnancy. Good luck!!
