***General TW that this thread might contain discussions mentioning MC and loss.***

Welcome to Waiting Room Wednesday! You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on not TTC and connect with others who are in the same boat. TTC can be a long journey, and having to wait makes it feel even longer -- even if it is for a good reason.

I invite you to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this like an ongoing conversation.

  • When do you think you will start TTC?
    Anytime between now and July

    What brings you to WRW?
Ready to start my family but also want to do some things before starting

    Any R/R?
I had two job interviews this week. One went better than the other but I feel pretty good about them. I don’t even know which one I want more. Just want out of the awful job I’m in now. So sick of the management. They’re just atrocious. I’ll find out either way for both by Friday so 🤞🏻 I’ll have an update on next weeks post if I forget to update here.

GTKY: What are your New Years Resolutions?
Overall, be kind to myself. But more specifically, I want to lose weight and I’d like to get better at meditating and sticking to my routine better.

I think we'll start in June, but my biological clock is ticking SO LOUD

    What brings you to WRW?
Just waiting until we're married and the timing seems right.

    Any R/R?
Wedding planning is a full time job.  We're getting married on April Fool's Day and while that feels really far away, it also feels like it's right around the corner.

GTKY: What are your New Years Resolutions?
I don't usually make resolutions, but if I had, they'd be about the typical things.  Saving money, being healthy, etc.

  • @jlbaker08 hi! Welcome! Looks like we’ll start trying around the same time! Ugh yes wedding planning is a LOT of work. What made you two choose April fools day for your wedding date?

  • @jackie_dunny Awesome!  I'm feeling kind of baby crazy, so I'm glad there's another person on a similar timeline!  Ultimately we picked April Fool's day because this year it falls on the Thursday before a long weekend (Mon-Thurs is cheaper at our venue).  April 2 is Good Friday so most of our friend's and family have a long weekend for travel and to celebrate with us.  After we'd picked the date, we found that it also matches spring break for my kids, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and one of my bridesmaids so they won't have to take time off to be in the wedding.

What steps are you taking now to get ready for the TTC journey?

  • @jlbaker08 not doing too much at the moment. I’ve been here for awhile so I’ve learned a ton in my wait. I recommend reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility as it’s so informative and taught me a load I had no idea about. The only things I’m actively doing are trying to lose weight and taking folic acid. What about you?

  • @jackie_dunny I've started doing OPKs just to see what my cycles look like and I've got a thermometer on the way (should be delivered today).  I'm hoping that I'll be able to get a good idea of what my 'normal' is so we're TTC with a good idea of what my cycles look like.

My first 2 pregnancies were surprises and looking back, happened very quickly.  I'm a bit older now and my FH is not the same fella so I'm not sure what to expect.  I'm pushing 35 and I know that brings it's own potential challenges.

Having the info going in is as much about being prepared as it is trying to satiate the baby crazy.

  • When do you think you will start TTC?
    May 2021!!

    What brings you to WRW?
I'm not sure if anyone remembers me, but I was hanging out in BOTB for awhile last year. DH and I were supposed to start TTC back in October but I had to get a new job (previous company was sold), so that pushed our timeline out. With the date drawing nearer, I'm so ready to start TTC that I felt the need to jump back into a community now.

    Any R/R?
Honestly, I'm a little bummed we aren't trying now. I officially hit the 3 month mark at work which means I'd be covered by FMLA if I got pregnant now. But for several reasons we aren't: 1) my leave is not as good as it was at my previous company. I'd only get paid 1 week 100% and 6 weeks 60%. So we need to save up for me to take leave. 2) Since my start date was exactly 3 months ago today, waiting a little big longer to start trying means less judgment from coworkers for immediately having a baby as soon as I joined the company. 3) But we have a January 4th baby, and both agreed that we don't want our kiddos to be born around the same time (since we already have to deal with Christmas then immediately his birthday). So waiting all in all seems like the right course of action. But damn it sucks to wait lol.

GTKY: What are your New Years Resolutions?
I'm focusing on health and finances mostly. I want to lose extra weight and get in better shape. Finances would be meeting our targets for the leave fund, building an extra emergency fund on top of that (so we don't tap into the baby fund in case of an emergency) and staying on top of debts so that we continue to whittle it down over time.
  • @darkrose88 hi! I remember you! (Yes I’m still here 🤦🏻‍♀️) but I am with you in that we’ll  start trying in the next few months. It’s so close we can see the finish line but because it’s so close I am itchingggg lol omg that maternity leave isn’t the best, is it? Wow only 7 weeks 😳 I forget how bad it is in the US. Truly atrocious. Congrats on the new-ish job though!

  • @jackie_dunny Hi! I definitely remember you to lol! I meant to tag you in a post yesterday and got distracted and spaced lol. I'm sorry you're still here too but yay to being soooo close!!! The maternity leave is worse than what I had at my previous job (6 weeks 100% paid) but I wouldn't have been able to have a baby if I stayed there since the company was being sold and I had zero job security so definitely a trade off. And I guess I should mention I can save up vacation time and use it during my leave so my plan is to take a full 12 weeks off... just not all of it will be paid. 🤷‍♀️ Hopefully you'll be able to get a new job soon and be happier about your work situation!🤞 Where do you live? I have a friend who lives in the Netherlands and another friend who lives in the UK, and they are both always disgusted when I mention my maternity leave situation.
  • Hi @darkrose88 !  We're on a similar timeline, probably starting in May.  Congratulations on your new, more stable job!  Thank you for the reminder to check on the maternity leave policy at work, I was teaching when I had my others so I knew what my leave looked like then.  Fortunately, we're probably going to be working remote a lot even after things are more normal.  I'm hoping that will give me some wiggle room being home with a baby and working.

  • @darkrose88 I’ve got a new job now! I don’t have a start date yet but it’s actually kind of nice getting to stay home and sort my home/life out before starting. I’ll be a medical laboratory assistant. I’m in the UK (husband is British) but I’m from America. Just out of curiosity, what part of the UK does your friend live in?

  • Hi @jlbaker08! Yay to being on similar timelines! I'm so excited to get started! Maternity leave is a hot topic for sure in my house hold. I'm currently remote and I'm hoping to continue working from home part time moving forward. I'm also hoping this will make it easier adjusting to life with a newborn easier. When my son was born, I took 10 weeks off and then started was commuting full time. Such a hard adjustment!

@jackie_dunny that's so awesome! Congrats on the new job! My friend lives in Manchester. I actually grew up in Cyprus (not sure if you're familiar with Europe, but it is island in the Mediterranean) so a lot of my former highschool classmates live in the UK and Europe. If I hadn't been American, I would have definitely gone to the UK for college. The little time I've spent there, I've absolutely loved it.
