Trying to Get Pregnant

WTO Monday 1/11

**This is a thread that welcomes all regardless of where they are at in their TTC journeys. Please be mindful of topics that are discussed that could be hurtful to those going through tough times. Mention of children or pregnancies of others should have a TW (trigger warning) and be in a spoiler if possible, and only be mentioned if it is extremely pertinent to the conversation. Thanks for keeping this a safe place for us all to engage!**

R/R: I’m no longer on call! Being on call during the week we started vaccinating older people was a mess. Between the phone lines being totally overwhelmed leading to a lot of after hours questions earlier in the week, and all of the post-vaccine questions this weekend, I am over it. But no more!

CS/Q: Chart is a mess this month. I think I either ovulated overnight last night or it will be happening today. OPK borderline positive last night and very dark this morning. My temps are so messy this month I don’t think I’ll ever know exactly, but I think timing is OK either way. We may try again tonight just in case.

R/R: Rant: I'm feeling pretty down today. Adjusting back to work has been tough. I mentioned last week how I am trying to leave work at work which has been going well, but that leaves little time to socialize. I don't mind that much, but last week I said in conversation with my coworkers that the week had felt like an illusion (I was referencing Wednesday's national events) and they said that I had seemed out of it all week and she had noticed me walking the hallways aimlessly. I have no idea what they were talking about in the latter half of that statement,  and I think being focused on work is different from being out of it, but either way I felt super hurt by it for some reason. On top of everything in our new schedule I now have lunch with none of my close coworkers (which is why I have been talking instead of sitting for lunch) and *TW*

my closest coworker is teaching from home for the rest of the year because she is pregnant.

Anyways, all of that is to say that I'm still feeling hurt by the comment and have just been kind of avoiding everyone this morning. I know that's probably not the best solution but it's all I've got for now. Add that to the general stress of teaching this year and I'm feeling pretty blah.

CS/Q: AF so nothing to see

@fitzfizz That sounds hectic and I'm glad you're no longer on call. Thank you for the work you're doing with the vaccinations :) I can't wait for mine!

  • @fitzfizz oof sounds hectic, glad you're not on call at least! Re: the OPK (question open to you and everyone else) I'm new to the OPKs, does everyone prefer the simple strips/are they better for tracking near ovulation time? Compared to the digital ones I mean which have a yes/no feature.

R/R: Work is just a real drag these days. MH is off work for a couple of weeks though and it's nice to at least have him around for lunch breaks, etc. Also bit the bullet and bought one of those at home gel polish kits that I have been aggressively targeted with online in recent weeks! Can confirm it was worth it, feeling a little more put together now - gel polish + sweatpants.

  • @dsher I just prefer the simple strips for the cost. I have a longer cycle, so it an be a lot of strips/cycle.
  • @fitzfizz Hooray for not being on call!

@fameonmain2 Sorry you’re feeling down.  I am pretty sensitive so a comment like that would really throw me too.

@dsher I am new to OPKs so I started this month with the digital ones.  They’re expensive so I hope to transition to the others once I feel more confident in them.

    Month/Cycle: 3/3

    CD: 19 and still WTO

    WAYDTGKU: OPKs and temping

R/R: I am annoyed that The Hunger Games movie series is not available on any of my (many) streaming services.

  • @fameonmain2 Your coworker sounds annoying to comment on that. Being focused at work so that you can enjoy your free time is a good thing! Regarding starting threads, I get up early and I love organization, so I feel compelled to do it most days haha

@dasher I started with the simple strips (wondfo originally, easy@home/Premom now, really just based on which was on sale) and I like the control of getting to take as many as I want. I have never used the digital though, so I have no experience with it.
  • @dobbysfavoritesock I think I was posting at the same time so I missed you! And yes, I realized that same thing a few months ago. I pay for Netflix, Hulu, Amazon prime, HBO, and Disney+, so whenever something isn’t immediately available to me it aggravates me to no end. I feel your pain.
  • @dobbysfavoritesock @fitzfizz same. If I have to buy a digital version of amazon I get very annoyed 😂
  • I'm late to the party tonight!

@fitzfizz wow what a weekend to be on call!  Hope you're taking some time to pamper yourself after all that.  Or just catch up on sleep!  I can't imagine how crazy that is, our office is going nuts right now with vaccine questions and we haven't started offering it to patients yet!

@fameonmain2 aw man, sounds rough.  Being focused at work and taking mental breaks are not bad things!  Sorry your coworker got to you.

@dsher ooh home gel polish sounds fun!  As for OPKs, I used the cheapies from amazon for a few months, but didn't consistently get positive results.  And when I did get a positive (or so I thought), my period came 3-5 days earlier than I expected.  Not sure if my cycles are just wacky or if I wasn't using them correctly.  My RE recommended the clearblue ones with the smiley face because they pick up the estrogen surge before the LH surge.  I've only used them one month but it seemed to be accurate.

@dobbysfavoritesock The streaming struggle is real!  I have the opposite problem, so much out there and I can't pick one thing.  I have TV ADD.

    Month/Cycle: 12/12

R/R:  DH did his testing today and my HSG/TVUS are tomorrow.  I'm happy that we have help from a specialist now, but also getting a little worried about what the results will be.  And a bit nervous about actually having the HSG done but I'm sure the anticipation is worse than the actual test.  Distracting myself now by painting my toenails and stretching before bed while watching mindless cooking shows.

  • @quiltandknit Good luck with the HSG tomorrow! I haven’t had one, but I’ve been here long enough to know that people often say it wasn’t as bad as they had thought. I’ll keep my metaphorical fingers crossed it isn’t as bad as you are (likely) thinking! Also, I’m not sure if you also work in primary care, but prepare yourself for craziness when you start giving it to patients. I literally got one call sent over from the nurse line (nurse was notably laughing while apologizing that the patient insisted on speaking with a doctor) from a patient whose toes were itching, and she was concerned it was an allergic reaction to the vaccine. I wish you luck if you have any call during the vaccine times!
  • @quiltandknit Good luck with the HSG.  I hope it is quick and easy.  I have had two HSGs and one was a relative breeze.  I hope that is your experience too.

  • @fitzfizz thanks! I work in primary care too! Fortunately I don’t take call ut our patients are relentless, demanding to be put at the top of a list that does not exist yet. Our state is still working through healthcare people and other essential workers. And omg, itchy toes. I’m dying!  :D
  • Thanks all for the responses - I'm hearing it's mostly a cost and convenience thing with the strips. I tried one this  morning to get the hang of it and I definitely did something wrong as the whole strip turned pink (?)
Decided to go with digital this month ( @quiltandknit going to use the clearblue, I didn't know about the estrogen surge it picks up, thanks!) and will try and get used it before I switch to the strips. Best of luck with HSG!
