Anatomy scan today at 18 + 3! Followed by checkup with the OB. I haven’t had a checkup in 5 weeks and I’m a little terrified to see how much weight I’ve gained 😕😭😂 I ate a LOT of cookies over the Christmas break and I don’t weigh myself or stress about weight while pregnant...but, I also don’t want a lecture from OB! I tend to put on the brunt of my weight in the second tri, so I assume I’ve gained probably at least 6-7 lbs since my last appt. But keeping my fingers crossed for just 5 lbs 🤞🏻

  • @mamakate2011 I weighed myself yesterday and had gained 5 lbs since Christmas Eve  :#  Hoping a lot of it is just holiday bloat that will fall off easy.

  • I find it so weird that North American doctors weigh you while pregnant. My midwife asked my weight at the beginning and then never asks again.

  • @mamakate2011 good luck at your appointment. Fingers crossed you are fine with the weight gain and you don't end up with a lecture.
  • @legallykate I'm up 4lbs from Christmas. Initially it was 2, which I hoped would fall off, but then 2 more joined the party this past week. All those cookies and pyrohy, I guess! (yes, I may have had 7 pyrohy as a "snack" on Monday, don't judge me)
  • @AKuzReve - My old doctor would constantly hound me about my weight and remind me that if I gained over 25 lbs it would be hard to lose. I mean, he wasn't wrong. Every single pound over that 25 mark was hard to lose, but it was annoying to be reminded all the time.

I can't believe so many people are already having anatomy scans. We are hitting halfway!

I finally got into a doctor that is in network, and I get to meet him next week. They are also doing an intake ultrasound and I have my fingers crossed that the little baby's legs are open and they can take a quick check.
  • With DD I got weighed at every appointment but my doctor never said a peep to me about my weight even though I gained 65 lbs  :#   I have a new OB this time so I am curious as to whether she will address it, I was 10 lbs heavier to start this time (thanks IVF) so I really want to gain less and won't mind gentle cautionary language from my OB.

  • I feel like being pregnant is a free ticket to eat eat eat!  :D I gained a lot in the first tri and now it's more steady, when it should've been the other way around, whoops.
  • @AKuzReve I absolutely LOVE my doctor. I wouldn’t say she’s ever made me feel BAD about weight gain, but she does make it clear from the beginning that for my height and BMI (which is in the normal range), she wants you to stick to 25-35 lbs. And I actually do appreciate the gentle reminders. Out of my four pregnancies, the only one time she even talked about my weight gain was my last pregnancy where I had put on 9 lbs in 4 weeks. That was a bit excessive for 4 weeks, even I thought so. She just gently wanted me to keep an eye on it. The next four weeks I think I only gained 1 or so pounds so it did even out thank goodness. I gained about 40 lbs with each of my three pregnancies, but weight has been harder to lose with each pregnancy, and with me being 41 years old and 4th baby - I (personally) really want to stick to that healthy/recommended weight range this time to hopefully help with my 4th csection recovery and to help make losing weight a bit easier since I’m older and it just gets harder with age. 😆 I’m aiming for 30lbs this time around...so far I’ve gained 9 with 22 weeks left! So 🤞🏻 I can stick to an average of a pound a week from here on out!

  • Appointment was quick and healthy today. Heartbeat nice and strong and blood pressure low!

@mindyb2019 we took a road trip to nowheresville and the bump didn’t like the internet speed there 😂. Good to be back!

@mamakate2011 My OB made a snide remark at my last appointment that I had gained 6 pounds during the first trimester, so I was very happy with my 1 lb gain for the last 6 weeks. He did say to expect 1 lb a week for the next while. I started an exercise routine this week, so hoping that helps keep things level.

@legallykate Yes! Those fertility treatment lbs are the hardest to lose after too I found. I started 10 lbs heavier this pregnancy too.
  • I had a regular 16 week appointment today and it was very chill. I LOVED hearing LOs heartbeat with the Doppler. He sounds so cute.

I scheduled my anatomy scan for 2/4 and got another blood draw for who knows what.

I can’t believe how fast this pregnancy is going! Almost half way down 🥴
  • @mc0303 I think the 16 week blood test is for spina bifida, I just had that on Friday :)

  • Whoa @sgrn18! I'm sorry you are on bed rest. I hope your uterus and cervix relax a bit. Geez.

@sgrn18 oh no! Im so sorry to hear that. I hope all will be ok and that the meds and bedrest will help. thinking of you ❤ oh, how short was your cervix? Did they tell you how long it was?
  • @mindyb2019 it’s at 1.83cm.  The typically want to see it over 3cm.

My provider told me that she was also put on bedrest for a short cervix from week 21 to 37 so I know 16 weeks of bedrest is doable.  But staring down the barrel of that much bedrest is daunting.
  • @sgrn18 whoa that is short. 😟 Im so sorry. Do you need to get cerclage? my OB was worried mine was going to be very short and it was at 4cm so really good. There gonna measure mine again at my anatomy scan on the 18th. I hope mine hasn't gotten shorter. Kinda nervous for it all. ya that is alot of bedrest I dont blame you for thinking its daunting.
  • @mindyb2019 so she said it’s almost too short for a cerclage but the placenta being over the cervix makes it too risky to try... it is what it is I guess.  Im sure I’ll go completely stir crazy in a week but naps whenever I want sound nice.
  • @sgrn18 glad baby is doing well but sorry to hear about the cervix and bedrest, I hope you can find ways to stay entertained in bed/on the couch and that dealing with short term disability isn’t too much of a pain, hugs.

  • As a physician, the reason we have to weigh and do vitals at every visit is billing. We can bill higher when vitals are reviewed.

Remember, we don’t actually get paid what we bill, either.

I had my 16 week appt today at 17+2
baby boy has a strong heart beat 153 bpm
i got poked 2x today Bc they missed my vein in my good arm 😞 they drew the AFP for spina bifida

I’ve got something medical every Tuesday now
    today’s appt
    next week covid vax #2
the following week back to ob for cervical length check
the following week to mfm for AS

on top of this. Once my progesterone shots come in, I have to make it back up to the ob and have them set me up for my weekly injections 🙃
  • Thanks all.  I’m settling in for now.  Ordered an adult coloring book and some colored pencils.  I don’t even want to know how much I’ll spend on Amazon over the next 4 months lol (thinking positive thoughts that it will last the whole 4 months)

  • @sgrn18 woof! I’m sorry! Hope the meds and rest keep baby inside for as long as possible. I’ve been doing SO MANY crossword puzzles. I’m downright addicted to the NYT crosswords. Kills a lot of time lol
  • @sgrn18 ooh no!! I'm so glad that baby is ok but what a lot on you. How often will your Dr monitor you? I'm so sorry you are going through this.

As a time pass suggestion, your public library probably has audiobooks you can listen to. There are a lot of great narrators, and they are free! If you're not a reader, try listening to some autobiographies of celebrities. A lot of them read the books themselves, so it's like they're talking to you. Rob Lowe's books are great, so is Tina Fey's.
  • @sgrn18 I'm so sorry to hear about the placenta and short cervix issues! I hope that disability is not too difficult to figure out. Adult coloring book sounds fun. I like Sudoku when I'm trying to pass the time. Good luck staying off Amazon!

  • @sgrn18 Glad baby is doing well! Thinking of you and your little one.

I second audiobooks and adult coloring books. I'm also a big fan of word searches.
  • @sgrn18 I’m so sorry! Is there anything your hospital can do so you could provide some support to them from home? Some of the forward thinkers in my facility would be open to something like patient calls for a care transitions program or some quality improvement checks. Just a thought so maybe you wouldn’t have to be “out” for so long.
  • @sgrn18 Oh no for bedrest! That much time looking ahead does sound daunting, I hope you find things to help pass the time. Glad baby is looking good and hard to believe we are so close to viability!
  • @klj0228 that’s a good idea.  I will ask them!  It’ll at least give me something to pass the time lol.  They downsized a lot in the ancillary departments so they could probably use the help.
  • @sgrn18 - Oh wow, that's a really short cervix. I'm sorry that you have to be on bedrest for so long, but hopefully not the whole time!

Had my A/S and 20 week appointment. Everything looked good over all. They did find a choroid plexus cyst (a cyst in the area of the body that makes spinal and cerebral fluid) which my doctor says are not uncommon. Normally, they resolve themselves by 28 weeks on their own. The doctor said since we did the genetic testing and know the baby is not at risk for genetic defects this can be an indicator of.

Trying not to worry since everything else on the scan look normal. Next step is an ultrasound at 28 weeks to make sure the cyst has resolved itself.

More from doctor Google if you want more medical info.

    What are choroid plexus cysts?

The choroid plexus is the part of the brain that makes cerebrospinal fluid, the fluid that normally bathes and protects the brain and spinal column. In about 1 to 2 percent of normal babies – 1 out of 50 to 100 – a tiny bubble of fluid is pinched off as the choroid plexus forms. This appears as a cyst inside the choroid plexus at the time of ultrasound. A choroid plexus cyst can be likened to a blister and is not considered a brain abnormality.

In the vast majority of cases, the cyst resolves or disappears and has no consequences.
