Trying to Get Pregnant

Cramping Immediately After Sex while Ovulating

Hello! I'm not sure I'm putting this in the right place, please send me in the right direction if not...

I used these boards during my **TW** three year IVF journey before I had my daughter a year ago and really love them.

I have a weird question I guess, looking for some answers or if anyone has experienced something similar. On New Years my DH and I had sex - I knew I was ovulating based on my CM and app, so we ended up just kind of going for it and "trying." Looking back I feel like it was dumb - I've never gotten pregnant on my own and it took IVF + about 15 different medications to sustain my pregnancy. Not sure what we were thinking lol.

Anyway, immediately after - and now four days later - I've had some serious cramping. And now yesterday I woke up feeling crappy/rundown and lethargic (we still don't really see anyone because of COVID so there's really no way I caught a sickness from someone). And I just feel off. I've done some googling but can't really find much information besides maybe having a reaction to the prostaglandins in seminal fluid?

Hoping to see if there's anyone out there that has some insight on this?

TIA!

Re: Cramping Immediately After Sex while Ovulating

  • If you were involved in this board as much as you say you were (even a few years ago) then you would know it is against TOU to ask if we think you are pregnant even in a round about way. And that one off posts are discouraged as they clog up the board.

FWIW, four days after ovulation wouldn't be caused by pregnancy because implantation doesn't happen until 8-9 days after an egg is fertilized. What you might be experiencing is ovulation pain, your body could have been gearing up to ovulate causing cramping for a few days. I think it's highly unlikely that you are having a reaction to the seminal fluid. You could also just have an ovarian cyst.

If you are TTC again, feel free to introduce yourself and jump in the daily threads.

Thanks for your reply, and apologies. I did use these boards a lot, but only after two years of IVF and  in the infertility section during my FETs. So I am unfamiliar with the guidelines here, I should have looked.

Feel free to intro on the newbie thread and read some of the recent posts to see how we do things here!

@ellemarie7 Also, unless there are issues with your uterus, tubes, hormones (i.e. low ovarian reserve) it's perfectly OK to hope to get pregnant on your own without IVF.

ETA: Well, I shouldn't say that because I don't know your age; the older one gets, the harder it is to find a "golden egg".
