Rants/Raves: After telling my friends over the holidays, one offered to do the zoom gender reveal. So I'm really excited about that. Last pregnancy I was super excited about gaining weight, but it's going so slow this time around I don't think I'm as excited. How are you feeling? over the moon in love with my snoogle
Rants/Raves: rave above! Rant - while I’m so happy to not be super nauseous anymore I still just can’t really finish meals because I get to a point where I’m just all “ew” about it and have to get it out of my face. I’m forgetting what it’s like to enjoy an actual meal...
Questions:
GTKY: What has been your favorite part of this pregnancy so far? Honestly I’m not one that just loves being pregnant.... but I can say it’s been nice to feel the baby move more and more. And going through this pregnancy with my fiancé has been so amazingly great. He’s so supportive, caring and sweet - he treats me like a little pregnant queen and I love that 🤰🏼 👑
@spartan4life Not exactly breastfeeding advice, but I recommend finding a breast-feeding support group. I don't know what's common around you, but LLI, leche league international has groups all over the world. Many are doing zoom or virtual meetings. Go to a couple before the birth, talk about your experience, listen to others. That way if you start breastfeeding and it's getting stressful, you already have a community where you feel comfortable and will gain new tips every day.
Also, there are great IG accounts you can follow and they post great information you may not even have realized you needed to know. Sadly, all the ones I follow are in Spanish so I don't think I can help you with that.
@spartan4life lurking - I’m researching lactation consultants ahead of time as a FTM and our birth doula will also help at the hospital and come by for a postpartum visit to see how we’re doing. I’d like to think it’s all just gonna work but I’ve read too much here to assume. We’re delivering at a baby-friendly designated hospital but our doula said the lactation consultants on staff there are hit or miss.
I have a couple FTM friends who had babies last year and couldn’t have in-person lactation help due to Covid and suffered for it, so I’m just hoping the situation is better by the time we deliver.
I’ve always (and thankfully) have had great breastfeeding experiences.. idk if I’m some sort of unicorn but babies have latched right away and the only issue I had was mastitis once when my 2nd was 13 months.
I won’t have a lot of good tips to offer, but I do try to tell moms not to stress over it too much. I feel like all we see/read are the tough breastfeeding journeys vs the good ones, and it can get to your head where you think it’s just going to be hard. It could be hard, but it may not be. So, good to be prepared but have a great outlook going in!
I have always put off all the unnecessary immediate newborn stuff and opted for skin to skin right away for a few hours. I breastfeed RIGHT away. I don’t even let them weigh and measure. If baby is ok, they come to my chest for skin to skin. I think that’s important, and maybe can help get your breastfeeding relationship off on the right foot.
EDD: May 17th/21 weeks today FTM/STM/STM+: STM+ Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: Team Blue Interesting Baby Fact / Baby is the size of: An endive. I actually have never had an endive. GTKY: What has been your favorite part of this pregnancy so far? (I think we cover least fave parts in the symptoms thread lol).
@spartan4life I think @brynn_mamaof4 is right, when struggling with DD1 the first week or so, I’d have to constantly remind myself to relax my shoulders and neck, and take a deep breath.
Also, when inserting boob into baby mouth, make sure to hold it kinda flat like a hamburger, and firm, so your nipple is protruding as much as possible. And when baby opens you really have to shove it in there quickly and far. It’s weird, but it works. If your nipple isn’t in there far enough, they won’t be able to get the milk as well, and it will hurt your nipples more if it’s not in far enough. I struggled with DD1 because I wasn’t shoving it in far enough or quickly enough. When we went to the mother/baby wellness check at 2 weeks postpartum, the lactation consultant was super helpful in showing me this. I was suffering because I wasn’t starting out right.
Another thing they told me was to bring the baby to you. Not the other way around. You shouldn’t be leaning over or in an uncomfortable position. So get comfortable, set up, relax, and have DH hand hungry baby to you.
Another thing, for sore nipples make sure to get a good nipple butter like Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple butter. It will actually help heal your skin, whereas lanolin just creates a barrier. Also, the nipple butter is safe for baby consumption. Lanolin is made from sheep’s wool oil, and can contain pesticides so you are supposed to wipe it off before breastfeeding. Check this out: https://www.happy-mothering.com/why-breastfeeding-moms-shouldnt-use-lanolin-and-what-you-should-use-instead/

@asf0613 can you please share a link to this magical pillow? My snoogle is on it's fourth pregnancy and showing its age, but I can't justify that price point again.
@littlelibelula It's always crazy to me how much more hands off other countries are. I can't believe you've only had one appt. Hope you get in to find the gender soon. I have less than a week, and the wait is so tough.
@spartan4life my number one piece of advise is to consult an expert. I know that may not be easy, but hopefully by the time these babies come things will be a little more normal. I don't think I would have been able to BF without the help of an LC. Also, if your main concern is to pass on the immunity maybe consider exclusively pumping? I know it can be really tough, but I have friends who have done it, and made it work for them. My last BMB had a thread where STM+ could share their stories, and FTM (or STM) could ask questions. Maybe we should start that again?
@lilnessi I find the weight gain definitely comes in waves, so FX it's just holiday weight, and it slows down a little.
@brynn_mamaof4 I'm also at the point where I fill up super quickly. Ugh, why do these symptoms need to come so early the fourth time around.
@dlynn484 I had to google what an endive is. Some of these comparisons are so weird.
@caraduke I'm impressed. You can't get me hiking on nice days, let alone days where it's cold enough for there to be ice. But that waterfall does sound really cool.
Thank you all for your replies and recommendations! I am going to do my best to actually learn this time before going in to it blindly. My hospital does have LCs available and to my knowledge they are still available even now. I also will check with our pedi office because last time I was able to schedule appointments with them there as well. I only did once but had already made up my mind to EP so it wasn't as helpful to me as it could have been.
@mrosek91I did EP with DS for almost 8 weeks last time and I think that is where I honestly went wrong. I was so obsessed with timing that I would rush to get him to sleep so I could pump and clean parts before the next round. I was set on it even before having him so I didn't really consider nursing him. I think that if I go in to this with a more open mind about actually nursing, I won't miss out on some of the beauty of breastfeeding and will enjoy it more. Maybe that's completely wrong but I want to give it a shot.
@mrosek91 so this is literally just a head/neck pillow, but coupled with my boppy wedge and a pillow between my knees, i am getting very comfortable sleep:
@mrosek91 To be honest, the main reason that I've had so few is because we keep going into lockdown and even though the appointments don't get cancelled I'm less eager to go to an appointment. Especially when the doctor for my DS seemed to want me to come in every 3 or 4 weeks which seemed like a waste of money to me. So I'm using covid as an excuse. But I was going to go twice in tri 2, but we're in a crazy lockdown and I don't feel desperate to see a doctor.
We're supposed to get out of lockdown on the 14th so hopefully I can get an US soon after that. It was just dropin last time, no appointment, so hopefull I can do that next week too. I think 19&1/2 weeks is enough for an AS. I don't want to wait until 22w.

@nsk489 just started nesting like a week ago, I feel like it starts a little earlier with each one for me. But it’s real. The night before I had DS, and I was in early labor, I organized all of our kitchen drawers 🤣
I am starting to WANT to nest and it’s driving me crazy because my fiancé and I have bought our dream home 6 weeks ago.. but we are still living in our separate houses that we have listed for sale because we don’t want to show an empty house, and then we have to coordinate moving in and combining furniture at the same time.
Maybe that's completely wrong but I want to give it a shot.
i think it just cradles my head/neck the right way, whereas my old pillow did not!
We're supposed to get out of lockdown on the 14th so hopefully I can get an US soon after that. It was just dropin last time, no appointment, so hopefull I can do that next week too. I think 19&1/2 weeks is enough for an AS. I don't want to wait until 22w.

Interesting Baby Fact / Baby is the size of: baby is as long as a piece of bacon
Upcoming appointments: anatomy scan 1/20 and midwife appointment 1/21
How are you feeling? Honestly pretty good. Heartburn has subsided (for now), sleeping like a rock, my asthma has been under control, and I’ve finally started feeling baby move the last 2 days
Rants/Raves: I posted this on the FTM thread too but I had the best pastries earlier today! I got a lemon custard danish and a Marionberry papillon...already thinking I need to stop at the bakery again tomorrow for more
Questions: has anyone started nesting yet? Or when did you start nesting in your previous pregnancies? I found myself on my hands and knees this weekend scrubbing the floors (like really getting that bathroom tile grout clean) and I thought to myself “well this is weird...” because I usually am not that anal about cleaning haha. I am itching to clean out our one guest room and start getting it ready to be the nursery but DH is putting it off bc we have so much stuff to do outside still
GTKY: What has been your favorite part of this pregnancy so far? (I think we cover least fave parts in the symptoms thread lol). How excited my husband is! He has been so great throughout this pregnancy and he’s going to be such a good daddy ❤️ I can’t wait until he can feel the baby kick!

Interesting Baby Fact / Baby is the size of: sweet potato
Upcoming appointments: tomorrow w/OB, Friday my anatomy scan with MFM, next week virtual visit with endocrinologist
How are you feeling? I'm feeling very stressed about everything right now: not feeling the baby move, my blood sugar not responding enough, going back into the classroom with irresponsible college students, etc. Hoping my anatomy scan gives me a little boost.
Rants/Raves: I wish someone would pamper me. My mom just had surgery and so she's all about her own recovery process, which is valid I know, and my husband has more ailments than me. He's tired, he didn't sleep well, he's nauseated for no discernible reason, he's got headaches. The man naps more than I do.
Questions:
GTKY: What has been your favorite part of this pregnancy so far? (I think we cover least fave parts in the symptoms thread lol). Getting over the nausea part is nice but I need more movement. So my favorite thing is getting scans and getting a peek at baby.

How are you feeling? gooxld, pizza on way for dinner
Rants/Raves: rave - ultrasound went well today and I held strong at not asking what the babies sex was, very proud of myself.

GTKY: What has been your favorite part of this pregnancy so far? (I think we cover least fave parts in the symptoms thread lol). I think it would have to be telling my son he was going to be a big brother and have him show love to my belly. He is only two so he has tried to feed the baby a bottle through my belly button and wants to kiss the baby - hopefully he keeps up the love when they arrive.
