Questions or thoughts on the best place to create registries, what items to add (will vary by FTM to STM to FTM). This shouldn't preclude product specific discussions in other threads.
I think a lot of us are STM+s but hopefully we can help any of the FTMs and I know I needed a few things for baby #2 and have a couple of items this time around as well. I know Amazon has good benefits after for diapers and such wipes if I recall so I'll definitely make a registry there. I might do Target as well. Haven't done them before but the one in our new area is very close to me (and my mom works there). Registry welcome boxes are also a bonus.
I don't have anything I'm planning to add except for the Elvie Curve yet but I'm sure I'll think of a few things to use my discount for. I'm trying to think through what extra things we need now that we have 2 floors.
I'm a FTM and I made one on Amazon and Target. We have already gotten a lot of gifts, but there are of course the "not cute" things no one wants to buy (diaper genie, changing pad, etc) and I plan on using the discount for those in February, so that has been a good deal for us.
STM here and doing a registry for myself. I’m not sharing it, no shower or anything, but we were so sure after our first we were done that I got rid of everything when he was around a year. I’m a list maker so I just need to have it all scoped out in advance. I did buybuybaby because they have a wide variety of stuff and then I’ll do Amazon for the miscellaneous stuff they don’t have. It also helps me to see it written because when I look in the closet I’m like “no more clothes!”, but then when I actually looked I only have 3 nb onesies and 2 pjs. It’s all from my MIL so she got the cute stuff but not the practical Covid stay-at-home daily wear.
They allow you to ask for hand-me-downs and list the general sorts of things you could use rather than picking out specific things. You can also add new things via links if you want particular things new, like a car seat or soap.
I'm a STM but we didn't have any baby items left after a cross-country move earlier this year, so I've been keeping a list of what I need on an Excel spreadsheet and just slowly buying things. It's pretty overwhelming, but I'm sure it will work out!
@riff323 I have a list of stuff in my head I'd like to get. We have a good amount saved from last time but not everything. Luckly people seem so anxious to get rid of baby stuff after they are done (or think they're done...) with babies that it's usually pretty easy to come by used baby gear free or cheap. I know I can't wait to purge after this kid is past the baby phase.
Last time I just used the registry as a list but also wanted to get the welcome box, completion discount, and extra 20% off of diapers (which stacks with subscribe and save 20% off!!)
We need a small little changing table I've decided (DD2 is still in diapers and we've been changing her on the floor and I can't imagine doing that the number of times a day it's required for a baby). It'll be a nice place to keep the baby items organized downstairs.
And we need some more children's silverware, bottle nipples, bath toys (I threw out the ones with holes since they get mold over time), baby gates (again, new house and never needed gates before), pacifiers and can't decide if I want a second diaper pail or not 🤔
TTM here but I'll take the discount and with the new house, we need some things we've never needed before plus the stuff you go through.
I haven't figured out if you can make 2 purchases with your discount like last time I had an amazon registry but if so, and this ends up being a boy, I'll love the completion discount to get a few boy things after having two girls (although we have lots of gender neutral stuff since this is our third time being team green).
This will be my third, but I got rid of most of my baby stuff. So I have a registry on Amazon and Target to keep myself organized and for the completion discount. No showers/sprinkles.
@kvh22 I believe you can use your completion discount for two separate purchases. This was a big reason I went with their registry. One purchase before birth, and one after. Also plan on adding some stuff for my older kids. The welcome box wasn't bad either.
@Lexibizzel I think you're right about the two purchases. I'm not clear on if I have to have everything added to the registry before birth though in order to use the discount after birth?
I have a registry on Babylist - FTM so we need everything! Under normal circumstances, I know between my mom and my MIL we would have had a beautiful baby shower, but with covid, I just don't feel comfortable doing one and I'm not really into the virtual shower thing. I will probably just do some kind of sip and see at some point after the baby is born when things are safe, covid-wise. But many of our family members and friends really wanted to purchase gifts, so it was just easier to create a registry. We have some generous family members who purchased our nursery furniture, car seat, Lovery playmat and Baby Bjorn bouncer already. It's also just nice to have a place where I can keep all of my ideas in one place for the things we want/need, even if DH and I end up purchasing the majority of it ourselves. I think of it as an electronic checklist.
@bbrahmbhatt That I'm not sure about. I know you have to have your registry set up for a period of time before your completion discount can apply (which they give you 60 days before your due date). I'll also mention that not everything on my registry is eligible for the discount, but only a very small percentage of what I have. But now that you pointed this out, I better be sure I have everything on it!
With Target, I added to my registry the day I used the discount. But this was in 2015 so maybe that's no longer possible.
4th time mama here and I love making registries for myself, family who asks, and getting the discounts! I typically use Amazon and target. For first time moms or those having a shower of some sort, Babylist is good if you have a lot of small shop or shop specific things you are wanting that may not be on Amazon.
I’m with the majority in creating a registry to keep everything organized in one place and of course, those discount codes! 3rd time mom, so not doing a shower or sprinkle but it’s been 7+ years since my last so we’re back to square one on baby stuff besides some hand me down clothes saved.
I’ve lucked out thus far, my little town has a pregnancy center with free “earn while you learn” classes. I thought it a good idea to refresh my pregnancy/infant knowledge and it’s a perk to earn “mommy money” each class to spend in their boutique. We’ve gotten the majority of our baby items there and the rest we plan to pick up with the discount codes from the Amazon registry we made. I made a target registry as well because I’ve heard they have some great sales on car seats and travel systems to bundle with, which is still on my list. Anyone else heard this?

@kadeephd What a neat idea!
