GTKY Monday 12/21

I know we can’t drink this year but...

What is usually your favourite go to drink for Christmas or the holiday season? Doesn’t have to be alcohol if you don’t drink. Can be Coffee, hot chocolate, chai tea, hot cider etc.. What do you enjoy?

Re: GTKY Monday 12/21

  • Not a big alcohol drinker (but when I do drink, it's whiskey 😆). My winter drink is EGGNOG. I can't get enough. I try to limit myself to one half gallon a year and try to hold out until the week before Christmas- if I buy it earlier I end up driving multiple gallons of it. I have special glasses I like to drink it out of too 🤣

  • My go-to winter drink is hot cocoa and THANKFULLY that has consistently been one of my HG safe drinks!!!
@_orchid_ I love eggnog but last time we got some DH drank ALL of it. I was so mad.

  • Spiced apple cider 😋🤩 mmm just thinking about it makes me want some
  • I'm a sucker for a good cranberry sangria.
Champagne on new years is a must.

Most holiday parties I'm slamming tequila shots with my cousins ,🤣

  • My fav go to drink for the holidays is the old traditional rum and eggnog Mmm. I also love a good glass of wine and a must have is champagne on new years.

@_orchid_ I LOVE eggnog too. i could drink cartons of it till I puke LOL

    @ruemcclanahan I love your style girl 😆
  • @ashaislurking I'm the only one in my family who likes eggnog so it's alllll mine. They're usually pretty disgusted just having it in the fridge LOL
@mindyb2019 haha you and me girl!! Just knowing it's only out this time of year makes me want to inhale it
@ruemcclanahan I like apple cider spike with fireball 😆
  • During the holidays it's mostly wine, or maybe some scotch on a cold night. In general if it's liquor it'll be something with whiskey. Years ago I had a Ukrainian Christmas party for a bunch of friends (yes, with the full Christmas Eve dinner) and made some kompot/uzvar, which I discovered makes a great cocktail when shaken with some bourbon and bitters.
  • I’m not a drinker. I don’t usually change it up. So normal coffee for me I guess. I’m boring. Lol
  • I'm a big holiday champagne drinker. We usually spend Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve at my aunt's, and between her, my cousins, me, and my brother we've been known to put away a good number of bottles  :D  DH is sweet and always gets me this cranberry sparkling grape juice I like (it is less sweet than traditional grape because of the cranberry) when I am pregnant for the holidays.

Made some cranberry peppercorn shrub yesterday, and it's not bad! I mixed it with some seltzer, sparkling apple juice, and orange bitters. Would be good with some rosemary as a garnish.

Here's the recipe of anyone is interested:

  • I love a good cranberry margarita this time of year and when brunching, cranberry juice mixed with champagne (we call it a poinsettia).
  • @rvamom90 I have never thought of a cranberry margarita but I bet it’s delicious! I want to try one now lol
  • @dogmom5 It is really good! During the holidays (before Covid), my office would go out for drinks and apps while swapping presents and last year, it was a special at the place we picked. We ordered several rounds and I'd get it again in a heartbeat. 🤤
  • You’ll usually see me holding a glass of red wine around the holidays but obviously this time it will be just hot chocolate or something else festive other than...eggnog  :D kudos to you ladies who like it!

@dogmom5 peppermint chip shake sounds heavenlyyy
  • I love a big smooth cabernet in the colder months.  This year I'm enjoying peppermint hot cocoa.  Love me some HoCho.

  • @rvamom90 now I wonder how a cranberry margarita would taste without the tequila. I want to go find one somewhere!

@wendy838 the peppermint chip shakes are amazing! I have plans to go get one tomorrow 😂😂
  • I love eggnog! We like to make our own but we don’t always do that, especially now with kids. We’ve even done the one where you make it a month or so in advance and let it sit. DH also makes amazing hot chocolate.

  • I am looking forward to hot chocolate. Normally I don't have it often because sugar/calories, but F it. I need the calcium from the milk anyway
  • Normally I would be all about the red wine, but this year I’m going with hot cider.  The coffee shop we go to by our house actually had a pretty good one, nice and spicy!
  • This is a fun thread!

This time of year I love a holiday blend or Christmas blend coffee.

I’m not a huge drinker but I do love slush this time of year!
  • Also hot wine!! I’m thinking about having DH make some and overcook it so all the alcohol cooks off.

  • Hot toddys. Yum. They aren’t bad if you leave out the whiskey, either, I’ve learned so far this winter. Will definitely be missing a bit of bubbly today (engagement-aversary, which we still celebrate 🥂) and for New Years, though!
  • My favorites are hot and dirty vodka martinis, wine (whites or rosé), a good holiday craft beer, egg nog ( plain or spiked), and hot apple cider (plain or spiked).
