Infertility

New here ... hi!

Hi! New to this group. Been TTC for about 3 years. Year 1 was “let’s just see what happens!” And then when nothing happened, we went to a fertility specialist. My husband and I have “unexplained infertility.” Did 2 IUI’s and now starting first round of IVF. I’m on day 7 of injections, which are really not as horrifying as I imagined, so thats a plus! Just looking for some support and like-minded individuals to discuss the crazyness and ups and downs of this journey that I’m sure none of us ever thought we would be on. So hi! 🙂

(TW: loss, BFP and child mentioned!)

Welcome to the club no one wants to be in! I am another member of the club of "unexplained infertility" -- although my RE is suggesting I'm borderline diminished ovarian reserve now since my last bloods this year showed my AMH super super low. We started TTC back in 2012 and after no BFP in several years, my OB ran some bloods and did a scan; everything looked normal. We finally went to see an RE in 2015 for 3 IUI's at my mom's insistence.  Then surprise BFP in 2016, miscarriage of that pregnancy and finally IVF cycle in 2017 that resulted in our daughter who is 2.5 now. Used all of the embryos we got to get her so we're starting from scratch for #2 -- likely after the holidays.

My RE was actually very positive about those of us in the "unexplained" category; he thinks a good portion of unexplained IF is due to issues with egg and sperm, and IVF can sometimes give some answers when you see how you respond and you always have the option of donor eggs/sperm if that's an issue. The good news, in his words, is that once you get the "right" embryo from the IVF process, you'll likely see a smooth ride through transfers and pregnancy (which was my experience, other than getting pre-eclampsia at 35 weeks which is a risk of IVF pregnancies). But I know how frustrating it is not to have an answer to why everyone else is getting pregnant and not you!!

I definitely never thought this would be my path -- my cycle was always regular, I was 29 when we started TTC and healthy. I always wanted a house full of kids since I was a little girl so it was really hard to accept that dream was going to be a bit of a longshot for me (or at the very least, extremely expensive and emotionally draining!). But now that I've seen the other side, I can promise you that it will all be worth it and you'll be willing to go through this rollercoaster a million times over just to be holding your little one. Looking forward to seeing you join in on the boards and hop along for the ride!

So glad to hear IVF worked for you! I feel like there’s so much the doctors don’t tell you or maybe they just assume you know - for instance - I had my first sono after starting injections the other day and no follicles 🙁 I was panicking. Went back today and the dr was like “oh that’s totally normal not to have any follicles during that first visit!” 😒. It’s such a roller coaster, but hearing success stories definitely makes me hopeful 🙂

I’m another one with “unexplained infertility” and yup, it sucks. I don’t have words of wisdom to offer (I’ve only done IUI once and don’t start my first IVF round until December), but wanted to commiserate!

Yeah I really don’t know if it’s harder to find out you have “nothing wrong” or to find out you have something specific wrong. Not sure what I was expecting from that first visit, but I imagine it sucks both ways ☹️
