Any questions?

Re: AMA/High-Risk Check-in w/o 12/07

  • What brings you here? After a 2nd trimester loss due to my water breaking at 20 weeks, we decided to put a cerclage at 13 weeks during this pregnancy.

How are you coping being high risk/AMA? (Mental health check, physical modifications?) It's getting a little tougher I think as I approach my loss' term. I'm questioning every twinge in my stomach, I wake up at night worried and if I work myself up enough I get a little panicky. I had a good appointment today, but I think I just wish my cervix was 1 mile long, but it's just normal so far 😅 They also had me force a little to take another measurement, and it was slightly shorter, and slightly opening on the internal side (baby's side), but they said that it was nothing to be concerned. But obviously I am concerned. I have an appointment with my therapist tomorrow, maybe it will help a little. I also have a sophrology session on Friday, so hopefully I can relax a little bit more in the next couple of weeks.

Upcoming appointments? Flu shot on Friday / Anatomy scan on December 29 / High risk OB on January 8 / Diabetes test on January 29

  • What brings you here? Twins puts me in the high risk category.

How are you coping being high risk/AMA? (Mental health check, physical modifications?) Thankfully for me, I am only considered high risk because of carrying multiples so I really haven't had to modify anything and mentally it hasn't been any different than my singleton. My twins are di/di (they have their own sacs and placentas) which are the lowest risk of all of the twin types.

Upcoming appointments? I have an OB check up next week with labs to check my thyroid and my glucose test.  It's kind of a new OB because my regular one is out on maternity leave with her own twins but if I'm remembering her name correctly, my appointment is with the doctor that delivered my first which is kind of neat! Next MFM appointment will be two days before Christmas and will be another a/s (the 20 week one) and a cervical length check.

    Any questions? Nope!

@mimser Totally valid! We are all here for you as you continue approaching 20 weeks  <3 I hope your appointment with your therapist can help you with your anxieties a bit but it's completely understandable why you have those fears and concerns! Lean on us any way you need to.
  • What brings you here?
AMA, previous pre-eclampsia, and 4th c-section due to failure to dilate and emergency c-section.

How are you coping being high risk/AMA? (Mental health check, physical modifications?) I definitely feel much older this time. I get a little worried about Mia’s barely-within-normal-range tilted heart, but try not to show it. Especially at home. I’m sure it’ll be fine, but I worry. Also, I have been getting dizzy regularly which reminds me of when I had pre-e with my first. A little concerned about that. But blood pressure is good for now.

Upcoming appointments? Dec 18 mfm ultrasound for Mia’s heart. DH has surgery that day to fix his sinuses, and I rescheduled my regular ob check to Dec 24th 😑 8:00 am. Lol

Any questions? Anyone have any secrets to relaxing while pregnant? Not going to lie, my non- pregnant self prefers a glass of wine and a book to relax.

  • @mimser you are so close! And doing all the right things! You guys will make it!

@gusgus14 I didn’t know some forms of twins are higher risk than others! Also, that’s pretty crazy that your Ob is having twins right before you.

  • @yellingbanana I didn't either until I found out I was expecting them! The more things they share (placenta, sacs), the higher the risk. And I know! She was funny because when we discussed starting me on femara she said "Just be warned, that's how I got these two!" and then I ended up finding out I was pregnant the day I was going to fill my prescription. The next time I saw her she said "If you wanted to be like me so much you could have just said so."  :D She's supposed to be back in February and she said she'd tell me all of the fun stuff I have to look forward to  :|
  • What brings you here? type 2 diabetes

How are you coping being high risk/AMA? (Mental health check, physical modifications?) I feel like I'm in good hands, so that makes me feel ok about it.  I do feel more emotional this time but I think it's more related to feeling out of control with covid in combo with hormones.

Upcoming appointments? Next friday, virtual visit with MFM.  December 30 anatomy scan with OB, January 5 anatomy scan with MFM

Any questions? anyone have any resources for VBAC, videos, podcasts, blogs? My new OB thinks I could do a VBAC if I want to, but I'm nervous.  My biggest fear is having am emergency c section after an induction and being put under general.  My second biggest fear is my daughter feeling less than or not loved enough because I can pick up the baby but not her after a c section.

  • @yellingbanana I'm struggling with finding ways to relax too.  I usually like to have a good margarita.  The only thing I really do to relax now is taking a long bath with my husband keeping our daughter occupied.

  • @mimser Shout out for starting this thread! I'm slacking!

What brings you here? AMA and two previous losses.

How are you coping being high risk/AMA? (Mental health check, physical modifications?) Mentally I'm doing pretty well. Closer to viability!  Physically, I'm doing better than first tri, but definitely still feeling older, lol!

Upcoming appointments? Anatomy scan on December 21st!

Any questions? Has anyone ever asked to skip their 1 hour glucose test and go right to the 3 hour? I've failed the 1 hour with both successful pregnancies but went on to pass the 3 hour and I just feel like it will be the same thing this time.

  • What brings you here? AMA, 4 miscarriages in a row with no living children yet. Also diagnosed with hashimoto's and antiphospholipid syndrome which are both now being well-managed through diet and medications!

How are you coping being high risk/AMA? (Mental health check, physical modifications?) I definitely had some anxiety in the beginning of my pregnancy, but everything has been going well, so I'm just trying to relax and enjoy at this point! I've been gluten free for a full year now to manage some of my thyroid effects and I think it's been helping as well.

Upcoming appointments? Anatomy scan was yesterday and it went great! In a couple of weeks, I'll have another appt. with my OB. More blood work on the way for TSH and platelet panels.

Any questions? Not at the moment! For me, the best way to relax these days has been a good show/movie paired with some food I really enjoy (like Thai takeout, mac and cheese, pepperoni pizza - I know, so healthy, ha). Food is one of the things right now that I can still look forward to 😂
  • @mkc3888 I feel like I just saw some VBAC resources, but I can't remember if it was a thread her or a videos.

Amazing resource - there may be chapters near you - https://www.ican-online.org/reading-list/

There are lots of great videos but these are my current favourites.

One comment I have heard is, certain interventions inductions I think or pitocin, cause stronger contractions, which could put you at a stronger risk for uterine rupture. So I'm aiming for an intervention free birth, no epidural, no induction. If I have to be induced my hospital will do a C-section instead.
  • @littlelibelula I only met with my new ob once and I asked her about VBAC and she was more supportive of it, but said that I'd likely need to be induced because I am insulin managed diabetic.  First thing I said was if I have to be induced I'll just get a section, now I'm unsure.  Thanks for all the videos

  • Thank you everyone for the encouragement, I teared up! 😅

@yellingbanana I meditate daily, although I have to admit I have a harder time doing it lately, my mind won't settle. Reading in the morning and at night before bed also helps.

@texas_t I wonder if the test I'm doing is considered the 1 or 3 h test? They said to plan for 2.5 hours. And they do 3 blood draws, one before, and 2 after the yucky drink. Now I wonder if my doctor ordered a long one for me or is this the standard here...

  • @mimser A 1 hour is where you drink a 50g glucose drink and get 1 blood draw an hour later.  A 3 hour is where they take your blood draw first, then you chug a 100g glucose drink and then they take 3 blood draws (1 per hour). I think some docs do a 2 hour, which sounds like what yours does.

  • @mkc3888 The great thing for you, is that your doctor is supportive and that is one of the most important things. If you want a VBAC and trust your doctor, go for it. Finding a supportive doctor is my main roadblock.
  • @littlelibelula I can attest to pitocin/induction contractions being stronger than non-induced contractions. I was induced with my first, and the contractions were mind-numbingly painful. It felt like someone was stabbing my uterus with a sword, which was not normal. And I ended up with a c-section, though there were many reasons and not just being induced.
With my 3rd, I went into labor the night before my scheduled c-section. And since my cervix is not one to dilate, I just toughed it out until I had to be at the hospital in the morning. I woke the kids, made their lunch, got them onto the school bus.... all while having contractions every 5 minutes. Then woke my husband up to let him know I was in labor and it was time to go 🤣 and we sat in traffic for 45 minutes. Lol. By the time we got to the hospital my contractions were 2 minutes apart, but it was WAY more tolerable than the induced contractions.
