Early DNA Gender Test!

Has anyone else done the early DNA test to determine the sex of the baby?! We didn't even know this existed with our other children. I'm clearly extremely impatient. Lol. I got the results last night. Baby boy #3

Re: Early DNA Gender Test!

  • Congrats! Funny you posted this now - I just ordered my test (the Peekaboo one) this morning! Didnโ€™t do it with DS.ย

  • @cammie0526 Thank you! I didn't even know these things existed. Lol. I thought getting the 14 week ultrasound was early ๐Ÿ˜‚
  • I've heard these aren't necessarily accurate. Especially if you have other boys in the house, that it can be easily contaminated and give you false results.ย

With 5 boys already there's no way here ha! I'll be waiting till the anatomy scan around 20wks.ย

  • @nopegoat That's really interesting. Do you know if that applies only to the at home tests? Or the clinical ones too. I had my blood drawn in a lab.ย
  • I could very well be wrong on this, and suggest doing your own research, but I believe all embryos are technically female until at least a couple months in and enough male genetics are present. So to find out youโ€™re having a GIRL that early might be slightly questionable, but to find out youโ€™re having a boy is probably more accurate. Does that make sense?ย
  • @jessd0117 I think anatomically, all embryos present as female initially but genetically, the biological sex is determined immediately at conception depending on the chromosomes received from each parent. I have no idea what these early tests look for to determine sex though, nor how reliable the results are.
  • Me either, and I also work in business development so my biology/genetics experience is lacking ๐Ÿ˜‚. It would be nice to find out early, but I also donโ€™t mind waiting for that part. I feel like if I did one of these early ones I wouldnโ€™t believe it until Dr confirmed anyways ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ
  • Congrats @cjjr21! I have considered doing the SneakPeek test as well but DH wants to wait to see on screen.

@cjjr21 I believe the chances for contamination are way lower for the clinical version.

From what I have heard @jessd0117 you have to wait till like 8wks to ensure there is enough fetal DNA in your blood to be measured. They are looking for the Y chromosome. Lack of means girl.ย

ETA I'm not an expert on these and have never tried one. I've just been in enough pregnancy groups to see them being mentioned and explained repeatedly. Ha!ย

  • FWIW, my friend did a test like this and it said male, she had a female.ย

As for male or female- decided at conception. Presentation of male vs. female can be assessed via scan around 15 weeks gestation.ย

At my NT scan with baby 3, it was clear and obvious that baby was female. Doctor and ultrasound tech told me 90% certainty since it was so clearย
