Infertility

November IVF

Hello I wanted to create a board for those of us stimming during the month of November. It's always nice to talk to others who have to stick themselves daily and stress about the size/number of their follicles.  As for me this will be my 2nd round of IVF.  My first round was over 2 years ago (unsuccessful) and I now feel I'm in a healthy mental place to start this process again.  I have PCOS, don't ovulate regularly, and both my husband and I have the sickle cell trait.  We will be freezing and sending any embryos out for testing. I'll probably do 3 rounds of IVF before a transfer since I'm old (38) and we have to test for sickle cell so I know the number of viable embryos will shrink significantly.  I got my meds on Friday and went in this morning for a baseline ultrasound. I had a lead follicle but my hormones did not indicate I would be ovulating soon so I'm on 2 weeks of BC and then I go back for another ultrasound on the 16th.  Hopefully all will be well and I can start using the pharmacy that I have sitting in my house.  LOL.  I'd love to hear your stories and where you are in this process.

Re: November IVF

  • @adamae1216 So sorry to hear that your first round was unsuccessful 😞 there is a November FET post you might consider joining, although it sounds like perhaps your transfer will be in December?

AFM - I have done 2 failed IUI’s and I’m currently on my first round of IVF. I transfer this Wednesday (hopefully!). I am nervous that I will also be unsuccessful. I have 6 embryos in an incubator which they don’t open for 5 days, so I won’t know how they’re doing until the day of transfer. This whole process is so stressful. I have asked the doctor if we could transfer 2 of them to increase the odds and she was against the idea. How many did you transfer on your first round? Looking forward to hearing more about your journey!

  • @kam174 none of my embryos made it to blast so I didn't transfer any.  That's interesting that they don't check on your embabies until transfer.  I got an update up until day 3 I think then they let them do their thing to day 5 and have me another update.  Hopefully you will have a few embabies to choose from today and will have a great transfer.

I probably won't transfer until March or April since I want to do a couple of retrievals just to make sure I have a few embryos to test and prayerfully at least 2 or 3 viable ones for transfer in the end.
  • @adamae1216 that’s such a good idea to do a few rounds before transfer! Kind of wishing I had done that. I had my transfer this morning and only one embryo was mature enough for transfer - so at least that made the whole 1 vs. 2 decision easy - it was out of my hands. They said the other 5 were still developing and will let me know tomorrow how many (if any) they’re able to freeze. Good luck with your retrievals! I hope everting goes smoothly for you! 💕
  • @kam174 I'm glad your transfer went well.   Are you going to wait till beta or test early?

AFM I've been having break through bleeding while on the pill but still hoping everything is a go come Monday.
  • @adamae1216 I’ve been back and forth on waiting or maybe testing Wednesday, which will be 8 days after the transfer. I have no symptoms, feel mostly totally normal, so of course I’m nervous for the test. Fingers crossed for you for a go on Monday! Get your pharmacy ready lol
  • Got the all clear today to start stimming on the 20th.  So excited to stick myself. 😆
  • Hey. I’m doing IVF this month as well. Should get my period tomorrow. I’m on the Nov FET tread though - way more support over there if you wanna come on over.

  • @JWatt5 I've been reading the board but wanted to make sure I was starting before contributing.  I'll definitely post over there.  Thanks!  This process is the only time you look forward to your period.  LOL
  • Hi all, I had my ER on 11/8... we got 7 this round and folded in a frozen round of 6 from 2018. Results were 9MAT/ 8FERT / 5 Blastos were sent for PGT. So now we wait until the consult on 12/3 to see the results. I am hopeful that we have a normal one to proceed with FET in late Dec/early Jan.

I'm 39 and my SO is 34. I have DOR (OAR 1.1) and he was totally normal. Since he is younger, we is struggling with "needing" to go through this process. Even though we both agreed and "knew" what we were getting in to, I don't think he was quite ready for it. He is shocked at how few eggs I'm getting and how there is like a 60% drop-off at each stage. I was/am prepared for that-him, not so much

  • @car1167 welcome! It really is so hard to see those numbers go down. I started off with 24 follicles!! And then 13 eggs ... and then was “only” able to freeze 4 embryos - and I’m 32! So, I know age has a little to do with it, but you have to take it with a grain of salt. The men have the easy part 😏 Hope your results come back with lots of good news!
  • @car1167 I'll be 39 next month and my husband is 33.  I'm worried about my egg quality as well which is why I want to dona couple of retrieval cycles so I will have some good blasts to get tested.  I hope you have some normal blasts.

AFM i just started stimming today so I'm assuming retrieval will be sometime in the beginning of December.
  • @adamae1216 good luck with your ERs. Good idea to “stockpile”. I just to got my testing results back and 4 of my 5 embryos were abnormal, 5th was inconclusive. Gonna retest the 5th. Hopefully it comes back as a viable option, otherwise it looks like another ER next month instead of a FET 😕

  • Got my first monitoring today since starting meds.  Things are progressing nicely.  My left ovary has a blood vessel right next to it (you can see it on the monitor) so it may be difficult to retrieve eggs from.  The last time they couldn't get to it either.  Luckily this time I have more follicles on the right.  I add ganirelix in the morning on Thursday and go back for monitoring on friday.
  • Hi - bit late to the group but I was also going through stimming and ER this month. We had a good number of eggs retrieved and fertilized but found out this morning that we ended up with 3 freezable embryos.
Good luck to everyone going through this whatever your journey - it's def not fun! How is/did you finding the stimulating/retrieval process? I found I didn't feel too hormonal or anything, just very tired.
  • @susyb85 I haven't really noticed many hormonal issues as of yet.  I had headaches on the birth control but not many side effects as of yet.  Hopefully it keeps up this way.  Are you going to test your embryos or proceed with FET?  3 embabies isn't bad.  How many kids do you want?  At this point I just want 1...I'm 38 but I do want a few just on case the first FET isn't successful or i i lose my mind and decide to go for baby #2 at some point. LOL
  • I had my ultrasound this morning and I'm ready for trigger with retrieval on Tuesday at 8:40.  I'm so not looking forward to this trigger shot tonight. I had to get a Covid test today which was loads of fun.   I've been having some pinches on my left side for a few days but overall no bad side effects from the stimming.  I also found out my main RE is going to be doing the retrieval so I'm happy about that.  My husband has to give a sperm sample the morning of my retrieval.
