Weekly Randoms w/o 11/16

What's going on this week?

Re: Weekly Randoms w/o 11/16

  • I feel like I’ve been MIA for like a week around here.  I’ve been waiting around for my NIPT results  surprisingly I’m not super anxious, but MH asks me every day if I’ve heard from the Dr. like I wouldn’t tell him the second after the called lol

  • I tried using my Doppler this morning. #badidea

  • @MelissaMay82 I tried using mine for the first time a week ago and I couldn't find jack shit :(
  • @mindyb2019 I’m 9 weeks today (9+2 if I am staying consistent with my u/s from a few weeks ago). I knew it was too early and I should wait. Ugh I’ll try again next week.

  • I wasn't going to get a doppler but my sister offered to give me hers so I tried it as well... nothing. ☹☹
  • @MelissaMay82 I'm 10 weeks today and when I tried to use mine I thought I was 9+2 at the time and used it before my first ultrasound and then found out I was only 9 weeks so ya I couldn't find anything either. Im going to wait and try mine again like at 12 weeks just to give it some time.
  • I was going to buy a Doppler last week, but then at my appointment last Thursday the doctor tried to find the heart beat with the Doppler and couldn’t find it. So I am glad I don’t have one yet to torture myself. I was 9+5 that day.
  • I had a super successful Doppler use the other day (was 9+6). Found the heartbeat and was able to lock in long enough for my husband to come listen. Was between 160-170bpm. I know I probably got lucky and won’t be able to find it again for a little bit but it was so fun to hear!
  • I want a doppler! Thinking of ordering one.

  • I’ve fumbled around with the Doppler and only was able to find it once.  Even tried before my appt yesterday and nothing.  Got to the drs office and the nurse found it so fast and hardly even moved to Doppler.  I went home and tried in the exact spot she did and could barely hear it.  I think they have legit dopplers lol
  • @kaw726 I'm glad you were able to find a HB. Makes me worried for myself. I had an appt with my OB 2 days ago and I was 10 weeks at the time and she couldn't find a heartbeat and she's a professional and you find one and im farther along then you. Makes me think my baby doesn't have one anymore :( I always think the worst. 😩
  • @mindyb2019 I was 10 weeks when I went to my last OB appointment. He couldn’t find one with the Doppler, but did a tv ultrasound and baby was fine. He did an abdominal ultrasound to see where my uterus was sitting and said it was still sitting low behind the pelvic bone. He also said something as simple as a tilted uterus can keep it hidden longer. Nothing to worry about at all for 10 weeks!
  • @ramzlau thank you for that information. It helps me to feel better. The tech at the ultrasound said I had a slightly tilted down uterus, so maybe for me it's more difficult to find the HB with a doppler. 🤷‍♀️
  • @mindyb2019 not something to worry about until you have to!  The heart is so, so small still. I've also had appointments in the past where they can't find them with doppler but get it with the US.
  • @mindyb2019 yes don’t worry at all! Today I tried again and had no luck. Just depends on where baby is floating around at the time. Just luck this early. I also had a super full bladder when I was successful so I think that probably helped.
  • I would very much like a roast beef sandwich today and was ready to just go for it and The Bump sent me an article about the dangers of deli meat.  Can someone please tell me it's okay because I really want that sandwich?

  • @laurad75 usually cold deli meat isn't safe for pregnant women to eat for the risk of listeria. If you really want a roast beef sandwhich i would just really heat up the meat so its hot and it cooks off any chance of bacteria. Then it will be fine. Enjoy!

  • @laurad75 - I would just go ahead and eat it. I've never heard of a deli meat listeria outbreak, but I have heard of romaine lettuce and cantaloupe, and yet pregnant ladies are never told not to eat those.
  • Ugh.. im so aggravated and pissed off this morning 😡 Ok, I so I get up super early at 6am and get ready to go to the blood lab by my house to have my NIPT done before work. They take all my paperwork cause I had other stuff too. I wait there for 30 mins and then they decide to tell me that Oh they can't do the NIPT cause they dont do it there. Im like wtf?? I had it done here last time. There like " Oh well we don't take the Harmony brand we only do the panoramic. Im like oook great. Would have been nice if my Dr would have told me otherwise I wouldn't have bothered to come today. Where the hell am I supposed to go then? Shes like oh you need to go to the hospital. Im like awesome!!! 🤨 Thanks for that. Now I have to make arrangements to have it done at the hospital. What a Pain in the ass!!!! Not impressed.
  • @laurad75 You can heat it up to be safe, but you're probably fine either way. The primary risk the "no deli meat" advice is trying to avoid is listeria (also any other foodborne pathogen, but really listeria is the nasty one for pregnant women). There are listeria outbreaks associated with deli meats, most recently Italian-style pre-packaged meats in a few states this past fall, but it's also shown up in all sorts of foods like fruit, vegetables, and dairy products. Bottom line: your sandwich is probably fine, if you're worried take a look at the recent outbreaks reported by the CDC (or comparable agency if not in the US). Caveat: I typed this while devouring my own Salsalito chicken sandwich, so I may be biased.

@mindyb2019 Ugh, I don't know why they can't just communicate better. Aside from the general hassle, that test already has a bunch of stress tied up with it. I'd be pissed, too.
  • I ate the sandwich.  It was really delicious.  FX I don't get sick.

  • I eat deli meat because I don’t try and avoid listeria. Listeria is a common foodborn bacteria that’s usually found in prepared foods. You can get listeria from salad bars, hot bars, prepared salads, deli meat, cured meat, ice cream, and a host of other foods. Most people who encounter listeria aren’t affected by it. However, if your immune compromised or pregnant it can be a problem. The reason deli meat is a no go for pregnant women is that it’s at the top of common listeria problem foods. The thing is that it’s really hard to identify a listeria outbreak because it can take awhile to make you sick and then you’d have to get sick enough that a doctor identifies listeria as the culprit. Then they take a list of the food you eat and compare it to other listeria sick people and if a pattern emerges, bam that’s the culprit. So deli meat is at the top of that list. You can heat up your meat if you’re concerned. There was a listeria outbreak in October that was linked to deli meat. In June it was mushrooms. In 2015 there was a big ice cream one that caught a lot of people’s attention.

  • @mindyb2019 That would be super frustrating because why couldn’t they tell you when you walked in and handed them the paperwork? And I know that test is already super stressful for you. Hope you get it done and out of the way soon!
  • @ramzlau I know right!? My thoughts exactly. Like wtf?? Why wait for like 20 mins then tell me. They were staring right at the NIPT paperwork and said jack shit. 🤷‍♀️ I dont get it. Tomorrow's the big day.
  • @mindyb2019 thinking of you today!! I hope the colposcopy and NIPT go well. I'd also be pissed about the lab... This is already stressful enough for your, and then going and unnecessarily sitting in a public space right now with covid would have me very upset.
  • @laurad75 I was craving a roast beef sandwich today, which is super weird because I don’t think that I that I’ve had a roast beef sandwich in 20 years lol 😆

@mindyb2019 that is super annoying. There is only 1 lab in my hospital system that does the panorama. I’m going on Monday probably mid-day, I hope that it’s not too busy. I do have to call OB Monday morning to see if they want me to get a rhogam shot for my spotting. I have to go to the ambulatory care center at the hospital for that and the lab is also in the hospital campus.

  • @mc0303 @MelissaMay82 yup! Add me to the list!
  • We've been listening to "must be Santa" (lists different attributes of Santa) this week and DS1 started making up lyrics about us. In the 8 lines he made up about me, 2 were about places I like to nap 😂 guess he's noticed I'm tired lol
