Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: Finding out next week!
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a yellow canary.
Upcoming appointments: Regular check up with my OB tomorrow and early a/s with MFM next week.
How are you feeling?: Still awful. I have a mild case of hyperemesis gravidarum but thankfully the zofran keeps me from puking and I haven't lost weight for the last week. My doctors said I will likely feel better in the 16-20 week range (I'm 15+2 today)
Rants/Raves: Honestly I am just so over work. I really just want to take a full week off but I don't have enough vacation time for that nor can I really do it anyway since I'm about 3 weeks behind and need to get to the point where I'm about 3 months ahead.
    Questions: Nope.
GTKY: Does your family have any fun/funny Thanksgiving traditions? If not (or in addition) what is your favorite Thanksgiving dish? For mamas in countries that don't do Thanksgiving, how do you mark the transition into holiday season? Our family doesn't have many or really any holiday traditions. My favorite Thanksgiving dishes are cornbread dressing (which we just discovered 3 years ago and immediately became a keeper for our Thanksgiving menu) and deviled eggs.Ā

  • @gusgus14 deviled eggs are my all-time fave party food. But I’m thinking of not making them this year since it’s just DH & me. :( How do you make your filling?

Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out:Ā Team Blue unless I find out otherwise next Monday!
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of:Ā A ChacoTaco
Upcoming appointments:Ā Next Monday is my 16 week appointment
How are you feeling?:Ā These headaches are wearing me out.
Rants/Raves:Ā My MIL is in town for a month which means she'll cook and clean and put my youngest to bed the whole times she's here.Ā  I'm ready for it.
    Questions:Ā None right now!
GTKY: Does your family have any fun/funny Thanksgiving traditions? If not (or in addition) what is your favorite Thanksgiving dish? For mamas in countries that don't do Thanksgiving, how do you mark the transition into holiday season?Ā We typically get a newspaper and go through all the black friday ads.Ā  Mine isn't really a dish, but more of a perfect bite, lol.Ā  Cranberry sauce, cornbread dressing, and turkey.Ā Ā

  • @gusgus14 I was raised with sage-free cornbread dressing, so I've been ruined for any other kind of dressing/stuffing out there!Ā

@ec1212 I like deviled eggs as well, but I'm boring and only like mine with a crap-ton of yellow mustard!

  • @ec1212 I just use the yolks with however much mayo looks right, salt, and pepper. Sometimes I dice up some onions and throw them in there which gives it a really nice crunch to balance on the creaminess of the filling. Top with paprika and done! You could always just make a couple! I make charcuterie boards and other platters and I did a party board a few months ago that had deviled eggs on it and I just make a few since it was just me, DH, and our toddler.Ā
  • @gusgus14 I’m half Italian. I truly do not understand what it means to make ā€œjust a coupleā€ of anything šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚.Ā

I make mine with mayo, dijon or yellow mustard, salt & pepper. I have a fancy one I make with cream cheese (thinned out with a little sour cream) and smoked salmon blended together as a smooth filling then topped with chives. I miss cooking for parties.Ā

How are you feeling?: Good, barring the splitting headache yesterday (posted over in symptoms thread)
Rants/Raves: Rave that I’m starting to order / plan holiday decorations. Busted out the reindeer coffee mug and lit the winter candles. Getting in the spirit!
Questions: I’m really torn between registering for both a changing table AND a dresser or getting a combo dresser/changing station. I’d like the extra storage and option to just reach down to open shelves I get with a changing table, but baby would have more floor space if I got a combo. Thoughts?
GTKY: Does your family have any fun/funny Thanksgiving traditions? If not (or in addition) what is your favorite Thanksgiving dish? I miss having enough people over for a long enough time to warrant a ton of appetizers before the main event. I grew up with a huge extended family, so it was always a major affair. My fave dish is probably stuffing. I’ll even eat it cold on a turkey sandwich with mayo and cran sauce (canned only, please) the next day.Ā
  • @ec1212 lurking from week 4. We did just a dresser with a changing pad topper so that when the time comes we don't have a piece of furniture that has no more purpose. This was also a space thing for us since the nursery is not that big of a space.Ā
  • @Liz101015 thanks! Gotta love being an NYC mom, right?! (I'm in BK.)
  • @ec1212 hahahaha I got ya. I used mustard in my party board batch and really liked them! I also did half of them with a squirt of sriracha in the egg white before adding the filling and those were good, too.
  • @ec1212 We also have a dresser with a changing pad topper (did that with both kids). That being said, we change a majority of diapers on the bed or ottoman, so it really isn't THAT necessary.Ā  We still use the changing pad for our nearly 2 year old.Ā  I just toss it on the bed and put it on him because he likes to try and rip off his poop diapers in the middle of wiping him.Ā  I'm so looking forward to diapering a newborn baby who doesn't move, lolol.

  • @ec1212 we just did a dresser last time and put a changing pad on top of it and that's what we'll do this time. I've never really seen the purpose in having two pieces of furniture when one can function for both. One side of the dresser is where we kept all of the changing stuff (diapers, wipes, rash creams, etc) and bath stuff (washcloths, towels, etc), and pants and the other side we keep socks, underwear, and hair accessories, pajamas/onesies, and extra crib bedding. All of her cute outfits are in her closet. Planning on getting another dresser for the twins this time around and hoping to find something similar (the one in our daughter's room is vintage and is laid out perfectly; I'd love to get a 9 drawer Brasilia but also not looking to spend $1k+ on a dresser).

Upcoming appointments:Ā 11/30 for 16w appointment but may change it to 11/23 depending on the NIPS results that I’m still waiting on.Ā
How are you feeling?:Ā Pretty good! I am struggling with regular sized meals, and my appetite is less strong than it was a couple weeks ago. I’m not sure if this is good or bad or neutral. Sleeping sucks, getting up to pee two - three times per night sucks. But overall I definitely notice a huge difference in my energy in the second trimester.Ā
Rants/Raves:Ā Today I got to do a normal person thing for the first time in ages. My friend broke a bone, and I went to a bakery and got her some treats to bring to her house. It sounds so small but I’ve been so cooped up, it was really rejuvenating to be able to do this.Ā
Questions:Ā Rhetorical: will I ever sleep through the night again?? UghhhhĀ
GTKY: Does your family have any fun/funny Thanksgiving traditions? If not (or in addition) what is your favorite Thanksgiving dish? For mamas in countries that don't do Thanksgiving, how do you mark the transition into holiday season?Ā We do normally have thanksgiving with my best friends’ family. She and I would bake a ridiculous amount of desserts leading up to it. But not this year, thanks to covid. Ā My favorite thanksgiving food is stuffing and this will be the first year DH and I are in charge of all of it on our own, just for the two of us, so hopefully we can pull it off!Ā

How are you feeling?: pretty good, have had more energy lately. Unfortunately I thought I would be able to stop progesterone injections after my blood draw last week, but my level had dropped a bit. Checking again in another 2 weeks but staying on the same dosage until then šŸ˜•
Rants/Raves: Several hospital systems in my area announced another doula ban today, then most of them thankfully reversed it. Doulas. Are. Not. Visitors! Women need their choice of labor support to feel safe.Ā
Questions: none right now but we also had a dresser with changing table on top, and it worked great!Ā
GTKY: no real family traditions here so I’m working on making my own. My own food tradition is that I dip absolutely everything on my plate into the mashed potatoes, then save my roll for last and clean the plate with it. Also thanks to everyone for reminding me to make deviled eggs! šŸ˜‚
  • @ckmb_1250 yes about the doulas! The one I hired told me she’s very close with the charge nurse in our hospital system, and she said during the first lockdown when they made women choose between partners and doulas (only one support person), medical interventions went up and it was bad for women and staff. So this time we’ve been assured that doulas don’t count as a support person, so even if god forbid partners aren’t allowed, doulas still should be. I really hope it stays that way for everyone!Ā
  • @ccmrc143 that’s good news!! I really feel for any women who wanted that support during the first lockdown and were unable to have it 😩
  • Hubby voted for deviled eggs, so I just have to will myself to make 3 (six halves) and not a whole dozen. A friend got me a deviled egg holder for a housewarming gift earlier this year and I haven’t gotten to use it yet! 😭

I went ahead and took changing table off registry for now. Thanks for all your input!! I think we’ll be able to sort out extra diaper / linen storage in the nursery closet so we can lose the table and have more floor space for him to play in there.Ā

We announced this week, so people have asked for & started buying from our registry already which makes everything feel so real!!! 😭😭😭🄰

How are you feeling?: Decent- had been feeling pretty good but the last few days have been a little difficult with heartburn and I felt nauseas the other day and even threw up. I have only throw up one other time this pregnancy and it was early on so I felt that was weird
    Rants/Raves: None for now
Questions: I keep getting these weird movements in my belly like baby kicks but I feel like it's too early and high up?! Idk what else it could be though! Does anyone else feel kicks yet?
GTKY: Does your family have any fun/funny Thanksgiving traditions? If not (or in addition) what is your favorite Thanksgiving dish? For mamas in countries that don't do Thanksgiving, how do you mark the transition into holiday season?Ā
No Thanksgiving traditions. I'm a vegetarian and depending on who hosts there's a vegetarian dish they make or I would just keep quiet and only eat the sides. But now my husband is also vegetarian and my sister is now vegan so I'm trying to think of something good to make! I think after reading this thread I'll definitely have to make deviled eggs!
  • @julianne0 my husband is pescatarian. I forget what I made for a main last Christmas but for Thanksgiving I’m making a veggie lasagna (where the filling is and actual veggies like carrots and broccoli) with Alfredo sauce. You could do a vegan Alfredo sauce with cashew cream. LMK if you want a recipe!

(Im still roasting a little turkey breast for myself. Goes better with stuffing and cranberry sauce. šŸ˜‚)
  • @ec1212 that sounds amazing with Alfredo sauce! I would love the recipe :) Totally don't blame you for making yourself a turkey. Honestly, it's hard to resist every year!
  • @julianne0 here’s the veggie lasagna I’ll be making on thanksgiving:Ā https://www.thespruceeats.com/vegetable-lasagna-with-alfredo-sauce-3054081

And here’s a cashew Alfredo sauce if you want to make it vegan (use the super quick method where you boil the cashews, no need to soak first):Ā https://wholefully.com/cashew-alfredo-sauce/

If you go vegan you could sub out the other cheeses with fake cheeses. Kite Hill (ricotta)Ā & Daiya (shredded cheeses) are brands I can easily get here ... might also be just enough time to order them online if you need to, too.Ā
  • Miyokos makes amaaazing vegan cheeses too!
