I started insulin injections 3x a day.  I just noticed my next MFM appointment is with the NP. I don't have a problem with being seen by the NP, I just feel weird about it since when I was scheduled they didn't tell me I was meeting with the NP.  This will be my first time meeting her and on the same day I have my first visit with my new OB, so I'm a little nervous about it.  I'm sure it'll be fine.  I just messaged the pt portal my blood sugars from the weekend, since starting insulin.  So I'll be waiting to hear if they adjust it again.

  • @texas_t since starting insulin my fasting numbers have been between 93-117 and post meals have been between 95-160/257.  257 was my highest reading after eating a chicken biscuit and hash browns.  other post meals are mostly around 140.

  • @mkc3888 I'm so sorry, excuse my ignorance on the topic, but is that good? Goodish? Is it better than your numbers without the insulin?

  • I'm 13w6d.

Everything seems to be going smoothly with the cerclage, I'll know more at my cervical lenght ultrasound next week. I'm super aware of every twinge I feel, but nothing has worried me, but I've also been super gassy so I feel a lot of stuff in my tummy 😅

I'm also looking forward to discussing my current placenta previa situation with my OB next week. From what I read when noticed this early, it will most likely move up, but I'd like to hear her take on that. Since I'm already on pelvic rest I don't think it will change much at the moment.
  • @texas_t lol its all over the place.  for people without diabetes you want fasting to be between 80-100.  Before starting insulin mine were about 130.  post meals you want between 100-120.  however I think I've been told up to 140 is okish.  200+ is ok for no one.  It's terrible and I wont be having another chicken biscuit.

I'm in denile, maybe my first OBGyN said I was high risk and I ignored that statement. But I never went to a MFM doctor for my first pregnancy. I never even heard of it before this group.

I finally had my first appointment on Friday and was so disappointed when he said I was high risk and referred me to MFM (MMF). However he said I could stay with him if the MFM hospital wasn't accepting patients due to covid. I finally got through with them today and it sounds like they are accepting appointments, so I don't know if I should be happy or sad.

Does high risk mean I have a higher chance of not being allowed a VBAC?

  • @littlelibelula what is your high risk?
  • @littlelibelula not necessarily. I asked my ob about it and he said his opinion was more on how many more children I planned to have. If I really wanted one I think I’d be able to shoot for it. I’m going to see a new ob at my next appointment and I’m going to ask her opinion on vbac at that appointment. I think it depends on what makes you high risk and why you had a c section in the past.

  • @mimser It may have been a combo of three, but I don't know.
I think it was the heart history, but I never needed surgery and just have extra preventive doctor appointments. Small hole in heart at birth, fixed itself. Childhood cancer, and non congenital missing kidney, since cancer.
@mckc3888 C-section for breech presentation which is not a risk, unless it happens again.
  • 15w today! It feels like the big leagues, but I know I won’t truly fill any relief till baby is safely here.

No appointment till 11/30 where I’ll do the part of the quad screen that tests for neural tube defects. My NIPS finally came back today and it’s all negative! We’d been waiting to tell our friends and extended family about the baby till we got these results so I’m excited.

As a result of getting my blood drawn a second time for that test, I went off the Lovenox for a few days last weeks. It was sooo nice to have a break from the injections and just take aspirin. But I started the shots again, which I think best for me and baby. I’ll keep evaluating with my OB whether the Lovenox on its own is enough or if I should also start aspirin along with it to decrease risk of clots in the placenta and cord. It’s hard to sort of be making these decisions blindly since ACOG doesn’t recommend women with factor v Leiden without history of clotting (like me) take thinners at all, meanwhile doctors often prescribe them anyway.

@mimser @gusgus14 when they check for cervical length is it always an ultrasound? Transvaginal? My OB checked at 13w manually in the office to make sure my cervix was high and closed, but I realize that’s not the same thing as measuring length.
  • @ccmrc143 I haven’t had it done before so I’m not entirely sure what to expect but I know they are doing an ultrasound to do it and my guess is it will be transvaginal but I’m not positive. Shaving my legs just in case 😂😂
  • @ccmrc143 @gusgus14 yes for a precise measurement it's a transvaginal ultrasound. They measured it when I had my 7 week scan. The tech also did it at my NT scan when I told her about our history, but that measure was abdominal and my bladder was getting full, which both could stretch the view a little so less precise. I have to check with my doctor, but I've been told from 29 weeks they just do a manual check. I suppose from there it's normal to see it shorten.

@gusgus14 if ever yours is abdominal, just make sure it's above 40mm. I read if it's below that you should ask to have it done transvaginally, to be sure it's in the norm.
  • Sorry I’ve been missing, I’ve been having some rough work days and lots of sleeping and really just trying to get through the days, if I’m being honest.

15w on the dot today. Having a lot of anxiety around COVID since my H is a college professor and *just* went fully remote this week. I feel like I don’t see my doctor enough, but that’s just because I want more reassurance that everything is ok. I haven’t been gaining weight but I definitely cannot hide that I’m pregnant anymore.

My constant nausea has finally subsided and it’s much less frequent but I am still suffering from major dizzy spells, most can be calmed by taking a quick nap and my boss is really supportive and let’s me do what I need to to keep myself and baby happy & healthy. He often says “I keep forgetting you are pregnant” 🤔 which I take as a good sign of my productivity at work. I hope they forget I’m pregnant when they are handing out new job offers in January during our restructuring 😂
  • @littlelibelula I think any VBAC is considered high risk. My Ob didn’t even used to offer them because of the risk associated with them. And it sounds like your health history would also qualify you as high risk. Very little can qualify you for high risk.

  • @yellingbanana thanks, that makes me feel a little better. Where I live almost every doctor I ask says they won't do VBAC due to risk of uterine rupture. Then acquaintances say it depends on which doctor is working that day. So public hospitals, which is cheaper might have a greater chance, because you have whoever is on call. I really need to stop stressing about the VBAC. If it happens great, if it doesn't, I'll still have my healthy baby.
  • @gusgus14 - I LOL'ed when I read your comment about shaving your legs. I always feel like I need to be freshly showered/ shaved for those appts or I feel completely grimy and self-conscious 😂😂

16+1 today! Appts with my OB and my hematologist next week. Thankfully no concerns at the moment 🙏!
  • @ruby0902 I'm the worst at keeping my legs shaved, especially in cold weather, but if someone outside of my home is going to see my legs I'll take care of it  :D I even shaved the morning I went into labor last time around. I wasn't actually sure I was in labor but figured I'd take care of it just in case and then gave birth like 10 hours later lol
  • +1 for shaving before appointments, lol!
