    FTM/STM/STM+: FTM!

Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: Team Pink 💕

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: A maple leaf, lol

Upcoming appointments: Next OB appt is Nov. 18th for a quick progress check up!

How are you feeling?: Well, I had morning tension headaches that lasted for about 4 days straight which sucked, but they have finally resolved. Have been a bit nauseous/ tired this week though.

Rants/Raves: Rave #1 - I'm so excited to be getting into the "holiday season" portion of the year - I have a ton of vacation to use and fully intend to slow down and take it easy!
Rave #2 - After my ultrasound last week and seeing how active baby girl was in there, I'm starting to connect with the feeling of weird flutter-like movements in my lower abdomen 😍😍 can't wait for them to get stronger!

Questions: Has anyone started telling their employers yet? It's weird being WFH for me - some of the normal triggers that are usually there, like your boss starting to notice your growing bump, just aren't there and I haven't felt ready to mention it yet.

GTKY: Did you go to college? If so, what did you major in? If not, what did you do post high school? Yes, many years of college, lol. I majored in mechanical and nuclear engineering and also went on to get my MBA - thankfully, I graduated with the MBA right before COVID really hit the fan!

  • *lurking from W2* @ruby0902 I told my boss at 9 weeks which is several weeks sooner than I planned but since I've been so sick and because I have to have double the appointments I had last time, I felt like I needed him to know in case I kept disappearing. I told the rest of the company just shy of 12 weeks but I also usually go into the office 3x a week.
  • *lurking from w4* i told my boss last week @ 11 weeks because I was applying for accomodations to work remotely and didn't want her to see that as her form of annoucing. She took it super well and was a ok with the fact that I do not plan to tell anyone else till after I am approved and a little further along.
  • @ruby0902 you seem to have started an avalanche of lurkers.
*lurking from week 3* I told my big boss on Friday at 12+1, and will tell everyone else tomorrow (12+5) at our weekly department meeting. We tend to schedule jobs 6+ months out, and I was already getting inquiries about my June availability, so I really needed to let them know. DH on the other hand usually tells his work when I'm in my 9th month. It's a little different since he doesn't get paternity leave, just is unavailable the day I give birth (the joys of working for a start-up), but I feel like it's also a little the same as your remote work situation, because he doesn't have to worry about them figuring it out.
The main thing I would think about, is how much time will they need to figure out a replacement, or rework the schedule, and go from there.
  • @ruby0902 I told my employers after my first ultrasound at about 12 weeks. But I am a SAHM/Nanny, so I take care of their children in my home. As a parent, I understand that they need to know that we will need flexibility in the schedule. And they’ll need to find alternative care for about 10 weeks. So I tried to tell them as soon as we knew the pregnancy was viable.

  • Thanks all for your input on breaking the news at work! Much appreciated 🤗

@yellingbanana - congrats on joining Team Pink again 😁😁💕 So happy for you guys! My sleeping sucks too and I wake up almost every morning with a tension headache for the past week, so I feel your pain. I'm researching pregnancy pillows stat this week!
  • @ruby0902 I got a snoogle, and it’s just ok.

  • @yellingbanana - I'm thinking about maybe getting the PharMeDoc one? It has decent reviews and is relatively inexpensive.  I can always send it back to Amazon if I don't like it but the customization is appealing to me.

@ruby0902 wishing I could change the shape of my snoogle. I want it on my back and by my legs but not as a regular head pillow.

  • @yellingbanana - I ordered the PharMeDoc one today and it'll be delivered by tomorrow. It was $42. I'll let you know what I think!

@ruby0902 I also work remotely, so have no true need to tell anyone any time soon. My boss and I are close, and she’s also pregnant so I ended up telling her in person at around 8w. That was helpful when I had so many first tri appointments! I’ll be covering for her maternity leave January - April, and I’m hoping that doing a good job running our whole team will help me get a raise/promotion before my baby is born. I’m also hiring someone to help cover parts of my job so I can cover my boss’s while she’s out—so, when I go on leave, there will be someone who can do what I do. It all sounds risky, but because of the hope for a raise I’m not going to tell HR or anyone else at work until end of January at the earliest, probably February. My boss didn’t tell HR till she was 25 weeks so I’m not worried they’ll be mad. It’s very weird to be hiding it though!

Thanks for the perspective @ccmrc143! I'm in an interesting position because I'm currently helping to implement a new system in our company that supports identifying and achieving strategic initiatives to meet mid-term company objectives and I report to an executive. It's really not meant to be a long-term role, more of an 18-month assignment. I started it back in September. I can put a plan for delegation in place while I'm on leave starting in May, but then also by definition, if the process can run smoothly without me, without overburdening any part of our organization, then it kind of negates the need for my role! That is okay as there are luckily other available opportunities, but I feel like I need to have some "next step" options in mind and I just really haven't had the time to think those through yet. Once I do though, that's when I plan to talk to my boss. I would like to do it prior to December! Otherwise I think I'll start feeling stressed.

How are you feeling?: Actually feeling good but work has been crazy and I haven't had a day off since last Thursday so a little burnt out.
Rants/Raves: I was supposed to go to my sister's gender reveal this weekend but of course there is a storm over the pass and now it's not safe to go. So bummed I have to miss it. I am calling it here she is having a boy lol!
    Questions:
GTKY: Did you go to college? If so, what did you major in? If not, what did you do post high school? I have a Bachelors in Business Administration from Oregon State but I went to a satellite campus in Central Oregon because I didn't want to move. Not to say that I am a total badass or anything but I had my son a week into the term and missed a few days and went back to class the following week. He was born in October and I finished my degree in March.

  • @nbcarlson Ummm yes! that definitely makes you a badass! I don't know how people survive college/grad school with kids.

  • @mkc3888 I had a few things in my favor, I was only 23 I definitely would not be able to do it now. And my husband and parents drive around constantly handing him off when DH had to work when I had class. Luckily I only had two terms after I had him, I had to work full time through the second term because my maternity leave ended and we were broke😂

  • @nbcarlson - definite props! I had a few ladies in my evening MBA program who were either pregnant or had recently given birth and I just had so much respect... could not imagine working all day, then going to evening classes 2-3 times per week, plus the homework/project time, on top of being a new mommy!! Superwomen!
