Trying to Get Pregnant

WTO Thursday 11/5

**This is a thread that welcomes all regardless of where they are at in their TTC journeys. Please be mindful of topics that are discussed that could be hurtful to those going through tough times. Mention of children or pregnancies of others should have a TW (trigger warning) and be in a spoiler if possible, and only be mentioned if it is extremely pertinent to the conversation. Thanks for keeping this a safe place for us all to engage!**

R/R: We started EOD last night, better late than never? My cousin sent a group text this morning about a “porch visit” this weekend. As much as I would like to see everyone, I want to say no and just stay in my bubble forever. I don’t know how reasonable that is though. I have no idea how seriously any of them are taking the virus so don’t want to get us into a situation that we aren’t comfortable with. Ugh. I hate that this is a thing. Just going to ignore the text for now and see what everyone else says first 😂

    CS/Q:

  • @bows22 I think ignoring is a good plan. I always like to hear what others say first so I don’t feel so guilty saying no. 🙈

R/R: I really wish Nevada and Georgia would count a little faster.....this extended anxiety is a bit much. I am also regretting not setting up a therapy appointment today. Election anxiety has me SUPER stressed. DH keeps joking about there being a winner and I just don’t find that joke funny. One winner allows me to keep my body autonomy, the other winner wants to take away my bodily rights. I just don’t find it funny. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    CS/Q: I’ll start temping Saturday.

  • @bows22 Hopefully other people respond soon so you can read the room before making up your mind.

@chindimples04 I’m with you on the anxiety. FX at least one more state announces today in a way that makes this over.

R/R: I’m trying to channel my anxiety into something productive, so I have been killing it on my running challenge so far this week. I have run every day this week and I’m on target to finish my 100k run in November challenge. Today is my late start day and I ran before work, so I’m feeling energized.

CS/Q: Poor sleep this week is not helping me with consistent temps, but at least they are all mostly below 97 which is normal for me pre-O.

  • @chindimples04

@fitzfitzz that’s an awesome way of channeling your anxious energy! Are you running outside? Such a great way to get some fresh air too. I really want to start taking walks but it gets dark so early now
  • @bows22 I never asked / missed how your Disney trip went and whether or not you felt "safe" being out and about. But agreed with others that a "wait and see" approach before replying is a good idea.

@chindimples04 I am sorry that the election has your anxiety going through the roof. I've got a pretty uneasy feeling and happy to have a busy work schedule to distract me.

@fitzfizz Wow! You're an inspiration to us all. Is the weather in LO (I think that's where you are?) conducive to all this running? Either way, I'm envious and I wish my stupid knee didn't hurt so I could get back to running. I just this morning realized I never commented on your question earlier this week re: which Egg Whisperer episodes are my favorite (and LOL @ my running PR for her), I actually thoroughly enjoy all of them. She does a lot of Q&A sessions on her own, or other RE's that are really heavily IF focused. However, she also has "educational" ones like "how to make sure your fertility journey is your doctor's priority". Either way, I find myself learning something in each one of her videos. I would just caution that if you're not ready to hear about failed IVF cycles, and answers to questions like "should we try with our own genetic material or move on to donated egg/sperm/embryos", it can be a bit overwhelming/disheartening/sad. Then again you're a physician so you likely have the stomach for it.

    Month/Cycle: 10/10

    CD: 12

WAYDTGKU: Letrazole + Ovidrel + TI; supps for MH and I; more testing for MH to complete his (in)fertility workup.

R/R: rant --- when will this be over?

rave --- I am really happy we switched our fertility clinic; had a f/u appointment with the RE yesterday to discuss next steps, and honestly, I feel like I am "seen" by this doctor. She's also hella more personable. Whenever the conversation starting getting down "next steps", she would always say "first of all, we are going to hope that next steps aren't needed..." I really appreciate that because I get so focused on mitigating risks by talking about what we'll do if this doesn't work, that I inadvertently already assume that there's no point in having hope about this cycle. But that's not true!

CS/Q: I was having O pain last night, and still a bit achy this morning, and my RHR dropped which usually happens after O. Buuuut, since I'm not tracking bbt, and my Oura ring only shows bbt delta from baseline, I'm gonna stick around here today, and then move on to TWW tomorrow.

    WAYDTGKU: temping, charting, maybe OPKs

R/R: My cycles are turning out to be a little longer than I expected (thankfully nothing remotely outside the range of normal; just slightly annoying), so I was happy to get my period this morning so we can finally get started on "serious trying." A small plus amidst election stress. The outcome either way will not affect me as significantly as it will many people, but because my job is government-related, it does directly impact my day-to-day life/career and I just want to know at this point.

  • @acleverusername I think I only posted about it in whatever daily I was in when I got back, so you were probably in the opposite group. I actually did feel really safe. It’s funny because the night before we left, I went to pick up takeout and there were WAY too many people in the restaurant. I felt so anxious and wondered if that’s how I was going to feel all week. But I never did. They are doing a great job with distancing and I never felt overcrowded at all. Your doctor sounds wonderful and I’m glad you feel seen! It’s sad that it doesn’t always happen. I may check out the Egg Whisperer you mentioned about how to make your fertility journey your doctors priority. I think part of my problem with my old RE was not being able to communicate what I needed from them
  • @hedgehoggin I'm also in the "I just want to know" camp at this point. How long are your cycles vs. how long did you expect them to be?

  • @bows22 totally hate that this is a thing too. All I want is a night out 😩😩 Ultimately I think it’s whatever you’re comfortable with. I think as long as everyone wears masks and stays 6ft apart (or you guys do at the very least) it would be fine. But again, totally your call.

@fitzfizz totally jealous of your running, not going to lie. Lol. I wish I could run but I’ve never had the endurance. I did gymnastics my whole life and even then I couldn’t run.  One of my goals [in life] is to run a 5k.

@acleverusername your new fertility doctor sounds fabulous! My obgyn is like that as well and it’s a breath of fresh air! There is no better feeling than being seen!

@hedgehoggin +1 for just wanting to know also. There was a story in the news this morning, we have a local mailman who was throwing away mail in ballots so I feel like this whole election is just dickered anyways. This whole year is just trash.

    Month/Cycle: 2

    CD: 9

    WAYDTGKU: bbt, opks

R/R: my annual obgyn appt was on Tuesday (sorry I missed yesterday) and it went well. Also it was 65 today which is great for November so we got some time outside. I started using opks yesterday for basically the first time and had to google so many questions 🤣🤣 but I think I’ve got it all figured out now. I’ll be back if I have any more questions I can’t find lol.

    CS/Q:

This my first time putting a chart in here. I missed a few days of temps in the beginning and this is my first time working with this app. I feel like it’s estimating my ovulation too soon but I guess we’ll see. It’s annoying when you can’t edit the luteal phase length. Because mine is not 14 days.

  • @paytonpedro i am assuming there will not be masks which is my problem. People here are generally on board with masks in public but not socially. And I’d rather just skip it than be in the family gossip bubble haha. Definitely ask any OPK questions if you have any! What kind did you get?
  • @bows22 totally hear you there. I’d follow the advice of just ignoring it then lol. I got pregmate off Amazon. Idk. They were cheap and I figured if I have no idea what I’m doing I should start there. Thank you for making me feel so welcome!
Here’s a question then, once a day or twice? Does it really matter? How many hours apart if you do 2? I know you should do it after 10am and then evening, but does it matter?
  • @paytonpedro so it really depends on how long your LH surge is. If you have a short surge and only test once a day you could miss it. And depending on how you are using them to time sex you could miss out if you only catch the end of your surge. So I would say since you are just starting out using them that mid morning and then anytime in the evening should be fine. At least until you see what your body does.

  • Ugh, I’m frustrated. I reached out to my midwife team about running labs next cycle, just to get a baseline of what’s going on in my body. The initial response said “we don’t usually start labs until 6 months.” Well, month 6 starts November 10, with 6 full months on December 10, which will be well i to cycle 7. I responded with that timing and got a response from a different midwife saying, sure we can run CD3 labs, but “I also want to stress the importance of healthy diet, exercise, stress reduction, and not using lubricant.” Honey, I wouldn’t be reaching out for labs if there were things that I could change on my part. Like, I don’t allow lube or saliva at all when we are baby making, I literally changed my entire diet, gained weight so I wasn’t underweight anymore, and went back on meds and started therapy to help with my stress and anxiety. I’m out of things to change! I am living my healthiest life. 🙄🙄🙄

  • @bows22 A mix of outside and treadmill. I’m a fickle outdoor runner and I won’t run outside if it is hot or dark. This week has worked out to where I only ran inside once so that was a nice change of pace.

@acleverusername LA has basically 2 weeks of good weather in November and another 2 good weeks in April, it just happens that we are in the good weather week now, so I have been running outside. Regarding your egg whisperer, I am totally unbothered by any infertility talk. If anything I like learning more about it. I will definitely be listening. I’m glad your doctor made you feel seen!

@hedgehoggin Yay CD1 and starting to try for real! Count me in for just wanting to know and have this all be over.

@peytonpedro I use the OPKs with first morning urine daily starting CD11, then twice a day (FMU and again at night) when they start to darken. Most places will say not to use FMU but I really can’t do it at work so I compromise. Usually my FMU OPKs are the most obviously positive. I think you just need to work out what your pattern is.

  • @paytonpedro to complement what @fitzfizz said, I’ve done substantial research into this (and you can see my reports in the OPK thread), and I can tell you that LH is released in pulses throughout the day. Earlier on in your cycle, these pulses are farther apart and also almost non-existent during the night (which is why OPK instructions say don’t use FMU). But as you’re getting closer to O, LH pulses increase in frequency, and starts to be released as all times of the day, so your FMU would catch a surge. When I was using OPKs, I would test FMU for few days, then transition to testing at 4pm and then again just before bed. I drink a lot of water so I need to time my tests to ensure sufficient hold.

@chindimples04 I’m sorry you had to experience that. I too have found some practitioners wanting to give me a lesson in baby making when I’m like “lady/sir... I’ve been at it for 10 months... I think I know what I’m doing.) Just keep on advocating for yourself and keep on living your best life.

@fitzfizz Lol... I used to describe Canadian running weather exactly in the same way, which is why I never ran there. Let me tell you... San Francisco has great running weather for 8-9 months of the year. So, if LA politics get too much for you, head on over here!!!
