We had a beautiful shower yesterday! My sister hosted it and had it outside in a beautiful sperry sailcloth tent! She order extra tables and chairs so everyone was able to spread out a lot, had masks for everyone to wear, and plenty of hand sanitizer!
Yes we are having one and it’s a combo drive by / virtual shower. The drive by is for local people who’d like to stop by with a gift. We are asking for masks on and providing to go drinks & snacks!
For virtual were just doing a quick 30-45 minute video call - I’m not opening gifts in video.
The overall theme is Girl Power Shower & it’s very feminist forward. I also am inviting all of the men in our families - lol.
My dream baby shower would be to not have one at all - haha! I’m only doing this because DH insisted I not lose out on the free gifts!
We're also doing a drive-thru shower, plus a shower-by-mail because we have a lot of out-of-state/country friends and family. We live in a city that's still heavily locked down, so it's masks and waves for us!
Like @shelmcclel, my dream shower would likely be no shower at all, or something very low-key. But both my husband and I have brothers and no sisters, so it was really important to the moms. Ours will also be completely co-ed and with a request for no gendered decorations or gifts.
I will say that now, in the COVID era, it will be REALLY nice just to see people and have some distanced hellos and quick catch-ups!
I had a small in person one in my friends backyard for the people I know who live here. I had everyone Make cyanotype sun prints that my grandma will sew into a baby quilt
my family all lives on the west coast so we have a “virtual” shower website through “babyshowerfuntime” but We haven’t send links for it out yet. I’ll probably do that next week and hopefully we’ll arrange a family zoom shower to go along with it.
We are having a virtual shower which actually works out nicely with family scattered around the country. It will be nice to see all my family, but it might be a hot mess of a Zoom with like 30 people on it. We limited it to just my family, because of the number of people. In pre-COVID times we would have been traveling to a lot of different places, so not having to travel is really nice. It is outer space themed and my sister has some surprises planned. I am pretty excited for it despite not liking to be the center of attention.
I think the ideal shower would be more of a sip and see style. We have moved so many times and have family/friends everywhere. I would rather not be the center of attention and would like to visit with small groups of friends chatting and eating some tasty food (without all the pregnancy restrictions and heartburn risks).
My two best friends back home are planning a virtual shower for us. We have a lot of family and friends who live out of state, so this will be a way for them to be involved more than just “click purchase” if they want to get us something.
I guess an ideal shower would be pretty low key. I’m not a ~*~fancy~*~ person by any means, so something more casual would be nice.
We had our family shower at my mom's a couple weeks ago, surprisingly almost 30 people showed up but my parents have a huge backyard so everything was spaced out. It turned out pretty good. I also hate being the center of attention and my mom absolutely loves embarrassing games and things so I was nervous, but it went well.
This past weekend I had a very small friend shower in my backyard. I mentioned the idea months ago to one of my friends and she is super amazing and planned the entire thing. Before this shower, I would've said my ideal shower would have been none at all but I can't even explain how beautiful and amazing this was. I'm pretty girly but I'm having a boy so she ended up doing a greenery/gold sparkly/dinosaur theme complete with metallic gold dinosaurs with succulents planted in them. She's thinking about starting a business as a party planner so I guess I lucked out having her as a friend 😂
We had our virtual shower a little over a week ago. It was great! We did little zoom breakout rooms so we could catch up with folks who all live around the world. Then we played a game. Quick, easy.
Ideal shower would actually just be a party which we were planning on before COVID. Outside drinks and food, all friends invited, some baby-themed Karaoke, basically just giving guests a good time!
I am having a baby sprinkle in 2 weeks. It will be in person, only people that we still see on a regular basis are coming (aka family and 3 friends). I said I didn’t need one but I do enjoy getting to celebrate another little baby! We don’t need much so it should be great!
Baby shower question for BTDT moms + earlier Dec due dates: how long after your shower did you wait to buy what you still needed off the registry?
Since I suspect many people will opt to shower-by-mail, I'm not sure how much of a grace period to leave while ensuring we're still supplied with what we need!
@peyts228. I am not a BTDT mom, but my original plan was to wait until after the shower and then buy the most critical things (carseat is the one item I know we absolutely must have). With the holidays coming up, people might still shop off the registry for either us or the baby. My only hang-up with that plan is the completion discount. In theory getting everything else off the registry would make the best use of the discount. Any advice from the BTDT moms?
@peyts228 This is my first pregnancy, but I agree with @dobiemom11. Make sure you have whatever you determine to be critical (especially a car seat, since you can’t leave the hospital without one), since you don’t really know what people will give you at the shower. Between us and our parents, we’ve been slowly piecing together all the things we deemed critical (car seat, stroller, crib, mattress, dresser, some clothes in NB and 0-3 so baby isn’t naked). My best female friend also got us the pack n play. As far as everything else, if people don’t get them for the shower, we can take care of it later because it’s not as big of a deal, you know?
@peyts228 I'm at second time mom so not having a shower of any type, but I am created registries for the sole purpose of using the completion discount. I am planning to "complete" them asap... I assume if anyone does want to buy us things they wouldn't really look for a registry anyway?
@peyts228 STM here- I waited until about a week or two after the shower. People most definitely look at your registry when shopping for your shower. If you are doing a shower-by-mail maybe give 2 weeks for any gifts to arrive that may be running late. Most of the time registries tell you if something has been purchased but also people are forgetful and late all the time! Side note: My shower last time was 2 months before baby and I’m doing it that way again for my sprinkle this time.
I'm going to be having a very small shower with some close friends and family, and I think I am quite okay with it haha! I'm not so much of a party person myself, so having a low key thing with some yummy food is ideal for me!
My friend is hosting a baby shower for me this weekend. Honestly, I have no idea how it is going to go - I think there will be maybe 4 of us getting together in person, and then the rest will be attending on Zoom? But she didn’t go over a guest list with me, so I have absolutely no idea who she invited to attend virtually. I can’t imagine it will be a huge turnout, as only 10 things have been purchased off my Amazon registry so far, but there’s not a ton we need since we have having a second boy, so I’m not stressing it. We’ll see what she has planned - I’ll be sure to report back!
@sierra2020 Sounds kindof nice it have a surprise like that!
I’m going to have a zoom thkng this weekend too.
We invited m a bunch of people but few things have been purchased off the registry. 🤷♀️ Maybe people are giving themselves more time because it’s virtual instead of in person. I’m feeling a little anxious cause we still need so much stuff!
