    Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: 22 weeks/ March 7th

    FTM/STM/STM+: STM

    Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: team girl!

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: 6 pack of bagels! (Weird connection but that makes me want to eat a bagel...)

Upcoming appointments: nothing til December. Although I probably have to do the glucose testing in a couple of weeks.

How are you feeling?:  good! Getting more consistent flutters which I like. Had the thought today while changing my 15m old and trying to convince her that kicking me in the tummy was not in fact as hilarious as she thought it was, that it’s funny how great it is for your kid to kick you from the inside but not the outside...

Rants/Raves: equal parts rant and rave is that a 3 week trial I had scheduled for this month got adjourned, so I wasted a bunch of time prepping but now I have a bunch of free time opened up.

Questions: did anyone with a relatively young older child keep them in daycare when the new one came rather than looking after both at home? I know it may be different with shorter maternity leaves in the US. But I’ll be taking at least 7 months off and am considering putting DD into daycare a couple of times a week when the new one comes just to give me some space to breathe. She’ll be about 20 months (we have a nanny right now who will stop mid-March).

GTKY: What's your favorite candy? I’m seriously loving sour keys right now!

    Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: Pink!

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of:  a chipotle burrito still, but by tuesday will be a bag of a half dozen bagels. These sizes crack me up sometimes lol

Upcoming appointments: I go back on the 12th to complete the A/S and then fetal echo on the 20th

How are you feeling?: Physically, about the same as usual. Emotionally, I've been struggling. Just starting to feel overwhelmed with work, parenting, trying to plan to buy a house/move, and still feeling too exhausted to do anything.

    Rants/Raves:

    Questions:

GTKY: What's your favorite candy? I was thinking about this because of all the candy we have at home now. normally I'd say kit kat, but this pregnancy has me hating chocolate so I've been into smarties, oddly enough

@finnflan My daughter is home now because of the pandemic and everything but my original plan was to leave her in daycare part-time to make things easier for me, too. Also, I'm jealous of your 7 month maternity leave, lol

FTM/STM/STM+: STM, I have a two year old boy

    Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: Team Green!!

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: an endive- I’ve never seen or heard of those before haha

Upcoming appointments: I have my anatomy scan, cervical length check, and fetal echo all on the same day this week. We ended up having to push our anatomy scan back a bunch due to our son getting COVID and needing to isolate. He’s made a full recovery though which is great!!

How are you feeling?: after a full month in isolation, I am ready to get back to normal life!!

Rants/Raves: rave: cannot wait for our anatomy scan!! It got pushed back so many times so I’m so ready to actually get it done and see baby.

    Questions:

GTKY: What's your favorite candy? I’ve never been a big fan of candy, but I LOVE the Smart Sweets Swedish fish. The texture and flavour are so unique.

@finnflan My son will remain in daycare while I'm on leave - the only exception will be if they close again for covid. I'm looking forward to a few months of quality time with the baby to bond, like I was able to do with my first.

@manillabar You've got so much on your plate!  I totally understand the exhaustion.

@jfcmomoftwo So glad you're finally getting your A/S!

    Estimated Due Date/Weeks + Days: 21+1

    FTM/STM/STM+: STM

    Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: Boy!

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Chipotle burrito or baby bok choy

Upcoming appointments: 11/17 with my OB

How are you feeling?: Pretty good! Yesterday was the first time in like 2 months that I was able to eat normally.  Because of my gastritis/ulcer issue, I get really full really fast or I just get uncomfortable when I eat.  I was so happy to kind of enjoy food again.

Rants/Raves: See above for rave, yay food.  Rant: work is still super busy and I'm dealing with pissed off people all the time (not my fault), so it's super stressful.

    Questions:

GTKY: What's your favorite candy? Haribo gummy bears! I bought a 5lb bag when I got my BFP.  I went through a 3lb bag during the first tri of my first pregnancy.  I guess this time I've got less of a sweet tooth bc I'm less than half way through it.  I imagine it'll last the whole pregnancy and postpartum haha.

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: 2 mangoes

Upcoming appointments: Going back to MFM in 2.5 weeks for some more imaging of Baby B's heart and my cervical length. The cervical length one is making me anxious.

How are you feeling?: Overall good, my anxiety is now flipping over to worry about early labor. It really is always something, right?

Rants/Raves: I've got nothing right now, friends. The election anxiety is sucking everything out of me, I'm not sleeping well because I'm trying to force myself to sleep on my side, and I have to do the 3-hour glucose screen this week so I can't even eat my feelings. Hopefully the week perks up by the end?!

    Questions: Nope

GTKY: What's your favorite candy? I am absolutely a chocolate girl, would take a Reese's over pretty much anything else in existence!

  • @finnflan I totally second eating a bagel!!!

@manillabar I second the overwhelmed feeling. It's starting to take a toll on me that I have to do everything for this pregnancy completely alone thanks to Covid. MH will be allowed with me for the birth and that's pretty much it. :(

@jfcmomoftwo Glad you're getting your AS done! My MFM doctor says they're trying to push people later anyway to prevent people from having to come back to the hospital, so hopefully they'll get everything they need!

@juliebeannn And now I want gummy bears haha!

    Team Green/Pink/Blue/Finding Out: Girl!

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Baby's index finger is the length of a Tic Tac

Upcoming appointments: Regular OB appointment on Nov 23

How are you feeling?: Mostly the same, i.e. physically ok but emotionally overwhelmed. Definitely feeling the stretchy/weak joints and achy lower back this week. Sleeping poorly (getting up for the bathroom at least 4 times a night, plus difficulty sleeping on my sides, even with a pregnancy pillow).

Rants/Raves: Rant - I am sooooooo ready for this election to be over, but also dreading the inevitable fighting that comes next. Rave - It looks like my sis and her family (including my awesome BIL and my absolutely adored niece and nephews) might be driving halfway across the country for an extended visit over Christmas. They are my favorite people in the world and this would make me so, so happy.

    Questions:

GTKY: What's your favorite candy? Last year, I discovered Butterfinger peanut butter cups in a random assorted bag of Halloween candy from Aldi. They are delicious - a perfect balance between Butterfinger bars (prob my favorite candy bar but tends to get stuck in the teeth) and Reese's cups. Unfortunately, I have never found them anywhere else :(

@finnflan Are you a fellow lawyer, or elsewise involved in the court system? Either way, 3 weeks is a monster trial, so tough to get all prepped and then have it continued!

@juliebeannn I must have missed it somewhere else, but how did your checkup go after your car accident?
  • @cmortmain Thanks for checking in. Everything was fine after the accident.  I had some braxton hicks consistently that week but my OB said that was normal.  I also had my A/S the following week, so I was doubly re-assured that everything is a-OK with that baby.

How are you feeling?: good after AS, don’t feel any different after stopping BP med either.

Rants/Raves: I’m not used to working full
time, especially out of the house so I’m exhausted. Our house is a mess, even having cleaners.

Upcoming appointments: had one today, have another on Nov 30th.

How are you feeling?: stressed out

Rants/Raves: Well it happened, the dreaded "you're gaining too much weight" lecture at my OB appt. I'm working out 5 days a week (albeit not as vigorously as pre-pregnancy), and my eating habits have remained the same as before. So I literally don't know what I'm supposed to do from here. 😒 I also "gained too much" in my 1st pregnancy so I went into this one legitimately trying to stay active and not overeat sooo I'm feeling pretty discouraged right about now.

    Questions:

GTKY: What's your favorite candy? Reese's
    DD1 - 2010 TTC v2.0
  • @mvt2003 oh this makes me feel better, thank you!! I’m also glad to get all three tests done in one go, it was originally supposed to be split up into two so that’s nice!!
  • @princessjenney I’m dreading the weight gain conversation and I know it’s coming. I genuinely think some people just gain more and they don’t have much control over it, I wish more healthcare providers got that.
  • @jfcmomoftwo thank you, that's how I feel too.
    DD1 - 2010 TTC v2.0
  • @jfcmomoftwo Of course, my MFM dr said that to me during my 18 week AS in the context of asking why I was there so early when they're trying to encourage people to come in later. :D And the answer was that his office told my OB office they wanted me at 18 weeks... eye rolls. Hopefully everything goes nice and quickly!

@princessjenney I got the talk too, they can go fly a kite IMO.

  • @finnflan with my last, I had a 2 year old daughter when my son was born. I felt obligated to keep her home so she could bond with baby, as well, but i found myself so busy with her that i felt I missed out on bonding with him like I got to with her. I ended up sending her back to daycare the last week of my maternity leave (i took 8 weeks total), and felt like I should have done that a majority of the time. If you can send the older babe a couple days a week, i think it could give you the best of both worlds.
  • @princessjenney, @mvt2003, @jfcmomoftwo Speaking from the perspective of someone who, at one point, weighed in at 343 pounds due to dieting and restriction...if you're exercising too much and not eating enough, you can pack the weight on because your body sees the restriction as famine. We are more likely to have this impact us when pregnant because our bodies are already sensitive to food and how much we're taking in. My doctor had the opposite talk with me. I've only put on 5 pounds at 22 weeks and she said I need to start eating more. I told her that I eat every 2 hours and most of it healthy, some pasta occasionally and once in a while, a cookie. I am not craving junk with this pregnancy. She told me I still need to eat more. SO I started drinking milk and once a day I have a spoon of PB...weight STILL isn't changing. I started this cycle out at 260, I'm still 265...I think the baby has enough fat stores.

I think we will all be OK.

I should add that I lost weight with the help of a nutritionist working with the weight loss clinic with a renown hospital and also used bariatric sleeve surgery to assist.
  • @kloe818 I definitely agree that the body sees restriction as famine. I lost 70+ lbs on WW to prepare for IVF, and also discovered a love of running. I chose to stop working out during my post-transfer wait and then was sidelined due to my SCH and bleeding. I didn't change my eating much, only dropped the exercise, so I attribute my early gain to that. I've been cleared for activity and am working out again, although not at the level I was before. I'm pretty sure I'll even back out now. I also have zero worries about losing the weight post-babies, I've done it before and will do it again if necessary.

  • @kloe818 definitely not restricting over here!! I’m quite anti-diet and follow more of an intuitive eating approach, so my eating habits stay more or less the same when I’m pregnant (obviously with some extra snacks to account for the extra calories needed). I still eat every couple hours and honour my hunger cues and cravings.
  • @jfcmomoftwo @princessjenney @mvt2003 Ugh I hate that weight gain is emphasized so much by some doctors.  My OB repeated like 3 times in my first visit with him that I should keep weight gain under 20lbs.  Unfortunately, I tip into the "obese" category by 2 lbs.  I tried so hard not to roll my eyes.  I feel like if we're eating within reason and trying to keep movement in our day to day, that's what's important.  I feel like there are other indicators like the glucose test that would indicate any real risks.  Sigh.  My ulcer has really kept me from eating much and so I've only put on 2-3 lbs at 21 weeks so that's kept my doc from mentioning weight again.  Ok end rant

Upcoming appointments: Had my anatomy scan today (posted about that a little bit ago). I’ll be seeing a high risk specialist sometime hopefully soon, but don’t have an appointment scheduled yet. Other than that, my next appointment with my doctor is set for Nov. 23.

How are you feeling?: Physically I’ve been dealing with dizziness. Emotionally, well, I’m sure you can imagine not great after today’s appointment.

Rants/Raves: Trying to be positive here, so a rave would be seeing baby girl moving all over the place at my scan today. But naturally, the one day we need her to be a little stretched out, she decided to curl up in a ball. lol I also felt her move pretty intensely last night, it actually startled me a little. She’s been moving around a lot lately, but that was the biggest one I felt. The ultrasound tech also told me that baby girl can taste the food I eat now, which is so wild.

Questions: Anyone had a babe measure small or have low fluid before? I don’t know how common that is or what it could mean. My doctor didn’t really go into details, it sounded like he just wanted me to see this other doctor first and then go from there. I was googling but that’s rarely a good idea. 😐

GTKY: What's your favorite candy? See’s Candy, hands down. I love chocolate, and that hasn’t stopped since getting pregnant, so I guess baby likes chocolate too lol
  • The weight thing honestly drives me nuts. Don’t we already have enough to worry about? Can’t we just focus on doing our best to eat well and stay active and let the chips fall where they may? I’m so glad my doctor doesn’t over-emphasize weight or weight gain.

    Upcoming appointments: anatomy scan Thursday

How are you feeling?: Pretty good, exhausted

Rants/Raves: Definitely feeling the effects of quarantining for 9mos. I literally have been to a store 3 times. The isolation is getting to me. I've always considered myself an introvert and have actually been pretty okay with not being around people...but it's feeling like groundhog day- I'm waking up to the same home-bound routine, the same messes around the house and I'm losing it. Rave: I expressed all this to my man and he really stepped up last night, it made a huge difference in my mood.

    Questions:

    GTKY: What's your favorite candy?
Oh goodness- I love me some candy. Gummy peaches, gummy raspberries and blackberries, the 'old lady purse candy' strawberry hard candies are also a long time fave.

@kloe818 I'm always down for some PB cups

  • Thanks for the daycare input ladies! I’m definitely leaning that way, although daycares around here are super pricy, so we’ll have to see how that works out!

@manillabar - I know, we’re really lucky with mat leave here in that we can take up to 18 months now. I took 7 months last time and was pretty happy with that amount. We’ll see what I go with this time, haven’t had that chat with hubs yet though to see if he’s going to be taking a chunk of pat leave this time around again as well (he did 6 months on #1 when I went back to work).

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Haven't looked yet for 21 weeks

Upcoming appointments: Just had AS last Monday. 24 week appointment will be in 3 weeks.

How are you feeling?: A little overwhelmed. Work has been so busy lately for both my husband and I, I'm starting to work on Christmas shopping, we are trying to decide what route to go with preschool for my son now that COVID has come into play, etc. I've come to this app meaning to post several times over the past two weeks, but haven't had the time to even draft a weekly update post! Better late than never this week, right?

Rants/Raves: Rave - AS showed no concerns! Rant - The ultrasound tech for my US was new and should not have yet been on her own. She was shoving on my belly so much that my abdominal muscles are still bruised and sore 6 days later, the images she got weren't the most clear, she had to keep checking her list and backtracking to get additional images on certain areas like the heart and spine. I'm slightly concerned that something could have been overlooked.

    Questions: N/A

GTKY: What's your favorite candy? In the past 2 years, I've taken a real liking to Snickers bars! Growing up, my favorites were skittles and starburst.

In regard to the weight conversation, I've started each of my pregnancies at a normal BMI. I gained 50 lbs with my first, was back at my baseline weight when he was 10 months old, gained 45 lbs with my second and was just 5 lbs over my baseline when he was 18 months old and I became pregnant with my third. My occupation as a dietitian tells me I've gained excessive weight with each of my previous pregnancies but I feel that what I wound up gaining was were my body wanted and needed to be. Both my boys were born full term at normal weights and without any complications. If you're eating when hungry, stopping when you're full, getting in some fruits and veggies, and are as active as your body is allowing you to comfortably be, then I believe you're likely where you need to be in terms of weight gain!
