Rants/Raves: Rave - ultrasound today! FX everything looks better than last week in terms of position and that we get a HB today
Rant - I was not super productive this weekend, even with taking Friday off! Oops. Also rant, it's getting freaking cold! High is like 42 today. But that does mean it's time to wear a beanie!

    Questions: nothing ATM

GTKY: How did you meet your SO? We met in high school on the robotics team when I was a junior and he was a senior. He was dating someone else at the time but broke up with her that summer (I think). We ended up hanging out a ton that summer. He went off to college but would still mentor the team and that led to some weird dynamics and so for various reasons I had my heartbroken my senior because of that. But we got together about a week after I started college (13 years ago!) and have been together ever since.

Rants/Raves:  My health insurance open enrollment is in a couple weeks and I need to decide what to do with my plan for both the cost of birth and adding a baby to plan aspect for next year.  The information they are giving us is horrible!  I can't find any of the info I have questions about in the info they've given us.  I work for a company that employs 10,000+ people.  How can the info they're providing be this bad?!  Super frustrating.

    Questions: Not right now.

  • @ellieemc26 call the number on the back of your card. There is a chance your company offers a few extra maternity benefits that your book wouldn’t discuss anyway. Ask specifically about maternity benefits and tell them you are just trying to plan ahead for next year. You can also reach out directly to the benefits specialist with your company if you are comfortable with that and they can help.
  • @klj0228 they didn’t even provide us with a book to explain the basics.  They gave us contacts to call, it just frustrates me that I have to take the time to call someone.  I feel like we used to get more/better info, not sure why it’s changed.  Good point about the extra benefits, though, I should check in that.
  • @elliemc79 Ours started today, but luckily I was able to find the maternity information pretty easily. If you want to see what the maternity benefits are without telling anyone that's what you're looking for, you should be able to request the Summary Plan Document from HR. I used to work in HR at a huge company and we didn't post the document anywhere but it was available if you asked. It'll be 20-50 pages with details about everything they cover.  My insurer (United) also has an option to search for providers through their website so I can see if hospitals, doctors, or birthing centers are in network or not. Adding a baby is usually easy; every employer I've worked at allowed you to make changes within 30 days of birth but the coverage would backdate to the birth.

@inthewoods23 Good luck at your ultrasound!

How big is baby? A letter bead (those white beads from the 80s) or a sesame seed, depending on the app. Those seem pretty far apart to me though.

Rants/Raves: COVID!! It's making everything so much harder. I'm waiting for a call back from the doctor I saw last week about whether they will allow visitors for ultrasound appointments.  I've nearly 100% decided on switching to a birthing center because I don't want to be in a hospital if all this is still going on in June. I want my husband to be able to come to appointments, I want a doula at the birth, and I want my sister to be able to visit soon after the baby is born even if that means I go home a few hours later.

Sorry for a second rant but I'm also waiting for my second HCG results to come back. My doctor is in surgery this morning so I probably won't hear back until this afternoon. I've been spotting but my ultrasound and exam looked good last week--it was too early to see anything but my lining looked good and there was nothing abnormal. I had my second test Friday afternoon so I've been waiting all weekend. But nothing has gotten worse, so I'm hoping for good news!

Questions: Anyone planning a baby moon? I just booked a long weekend at a resort in Puerto Vallerta in February. I haven't taken more than a day off since my honeymoon last year so I'm really excited!

GTKY: How did you meet your SO? Tinder. We had both just moved to town and didn't know very many people. He was my first date and it just worked!

Rants/Raves: Rant - I agree that covid is making things so much harder - it's a pain to see a doctor or book appointments because you have to call, leave a message and wait 24 hours for them to call you back and book. If you miss the call, your SOL and have to start from square 1.
    Questions: none right now
GTKY: How did you meet your SO? We met at a mutual friend's birthday party (at a nightclub). That's probably a less common way to meet someone nowadays!
  • @wendy838 wow, that would drive me up the wall! I've at least been able to get through and make appointments easier.

Rants/Raves: excited for my first appointment next week (Monday)

Questions: should I have gotten a blood hcg test? I don’t have a normal doctor because I moved and the obgyn didn’t say anything they just set my first appointment for 6 weeks + 3 and said I should be able to have an ultrasound but I’m nervous since I didn’t get the blood test that something will be off.

GTKY: How did you meet your SO? VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) training 8 years ago. He sat behind me and started up a conversation when I was out in the hall using one of the computers to check my email (we couldn't do it in the classroom, which was stupid). Took about a day for me to realize that he might be trying to flirt and not just talking to me because I was the only one under 50 in the class (aside from the instructor's son, who was my activity partner and kind of dumb...like, to the point where I felt badly for him).

@brilea9 My doctor doesn't do it either, it kind of depends on your fertility history (i.e. are you doing IVF? Have you had early miscarriages before?). If your specific situation doesn't warrant it, think a lot don't bother because it can be stressful if your levels don't increase as you expect (which can be bad, but sometimes there's nothing wrong) and there's not a lot that they can do at that point.
  • @brilea9 I only had a blood test because I was spotting and cramping. Before I called about that, I was just scheduled for my first appointment at 9 weeks.

Rants/Raves: I have been super MIA lately because I am SO nauseous/pukey that I can barely look at a computer screen. Since it's my first pregnancy, I don't really know what is normal/when I should call my doctor. I have an appt on Tuesday, so I will definitely be discussing it then but MAN this has been a rough 2 weeks. However, I have only thrown up once in the last 48 hours so I am feeling great about that!

@brilea9 I was wondering the same thing! I’ve been utilizing HCG strips to see if the line gets darker but idk if that’s a good indicator or not. Probably just causing undue stress.

@nlc_atx I have always wanted a baby moon, hopefully we can figure something out even with Covid! We’re tentatively planning a trip to DC this spring to see the cherry blossoms. Our 4th anniversary was yesterday and the cherry blossoms are our take on the traditional fruit & flower gift.

Rants/Raves: I hate that I keep waking up in the middle of the night, every night, and struggling to fall back asleep! But, if this is due to a healthy pregnancy I will take it.

    Questions: NATM

GTKY: How did you meet your SO? We met in college. We worked at the same place on campus and hit it off!
  • How far along are you? 5 - 6 weeks. Having an ultrasound next week to "date" the babe.
How big is baby? Somewhere between the size of an apple seed and a sweet pea.
Rants/Raves: I had a frustrating appointment with my gyno / OBGYN today. It was my first follow up after blood work. I did my first blood test to measure HCG on October 9th and my level was 57iu/L. The second blood test I did was on October 16th and my level was 779 iu/L. I looked at the standard HCG levels and it looked like I was sitting comfortable between 3 - 4 weeks at the time and I was happy.
I get to my appointment today and he said my first test level was SO low and based on the second test he THINKS everything is OK now... but didn't instill hope in me at all. At my next appointment (November 5th), I will be getting a referral to a high risk clinic because I have epilepsy. So hopefully I wont have him much longer.

The constipation and bloating have been REAL. The nausea is starting. I said to my husband that these symptoms make me excited but I know they are gonna get old REAL fast LOL.

Questions: how were your HCG levels in the beginning? Is my doctor just being a butthead?

GTKY: How did you meet your SO? We met at a bar! He walked up to me randomly and said "I'm gonna take you out on a date" and then he walked away. I was like WTF? Later on in the evening he came back and said the exact same thing. I shot back with "that's going to be a little difficult without my number" He realized this, I gave him my number (he called it immediately to see if I actually gave him my number LOL) and we've been together ever since. We are going on 7 years together and married for 1 year!
  • @amberdem I'm 5-6 weeks too - based on my last period (9/10), I'm 6+1, based on when I ovulated (my tests actually measure hormone levels so should be pretty accurate, around 9/28) I'm more like 5+4, so my dates are probably close to yours.

On 10/7 I was at 150 and on 10/9 I was 290. My doctor said those numbers looked good for "really early pregnancy" and your numbers look like you're just a day or two behind me? But everyone is different - those ranges are HUGE. The important thing from what I understand is doubling every 2-3 days, and to get from 57 to 779 in a week you had to have been doubling or more every two days so it sounds like you are in a good position. I'd say your doctor is being a butthead.

@gabs90 I love the cherry blossoms! I hope you're able to make it. I'm nervous we'll end up cancelling because of covid but I'm just refusing to think about it as a possibility.
