HCG Numbers Spiked!

Hey all!

I know nobody can tell me for sure until my ultrasound this Friday 10/9, but I wanted to hear other's experiences! I had my HCG count taken as soon as I got a positive test which was 9/28/20. My LMP started sometime between Sep 2-4. Anyway, my HCG count was 73.8. The reason I got it taken is because I have had only 1 successful pregnancy, 4 ectopic, and 3 miscarriages, so they watch me closely. Well my Doctor said since I was only around 3.5 weeks pregnant he wanted to wait a week to check my numbers again. Well, fast forward to today and I had my test, came back at 2378.9!! So I wonder, does this possibly mean mulitples?? from 73.8 to 2378.9 in 7 days is crazy to me! My only successful pregnancy, my numbers were on the lower range the entire time. Thoughts? Your experience? Tell me what you think!! I can't wait until Firday

Re: HCG Numbers Spiked!

  • That’s pretty normal. They should double every 24-48 hours.

  • At about 4.5-5weeks I had an HCG test done for the same type of reasons due to two prior miscarriages and my HCG came back 23,800, the following week an ultrasound sound confirmed twins. It’s hard to tell by just your numbers but wanted to share mine so that you could compare. Please keep us posted would love to hear if they find multiples in your ultrasound 💕
  • I need to come back in 2 weeks for a clearer ultrasound. He said he a saw a yolk sac and obviously the gestational sac but nothing else. Im probably hanging onto hope haha but I think I potentially see 2 yolk sacs. The doc said he wouldn't rule out twins  at this point until next ultrasound.  What do you think,  you see what I see??
  • I replied under the multiples post. I think it's too early to tell at this point. It sounds like you really want twins. I know I do. I have a scan 10/20 which will be 6 and a half weeks. By then should be able to see how many, maybe even hear heartbeats. By your next scan you'll definitely know what's going on. Just hang in there and keep us updated!
  • I will keep you all posted. Let me know about yours as well. I wouldn't mind having twins. I've always wanted a big family and we have decided this is our last pregnancy because of my risks of ectopic etc so it would be great to get 2 in my last pregnancy lol :) thanks for your input!! Just having fun with it while I wait. I think my ultrasound will be around the 20th too. I have to call tomorrow to schedule it.
  • I had twins - my HCG was high from the get-go and increased rapidly, and my symptoms were much stronger with the twin pregnancy than my singleton. At my 6 week ultrasound I had two very clear separate dark spots (where the sac and yolk implanted) so it was obvious I had twins. Mine are di/di twins (fraternal, separate sacs and placentas). I'm not sure how identical twins look though... some share the same sac, placenta, etc. Twins are awesome but pregnancy with them is higher risk, especially with ID twins. Curious to know how it turns out!
PS I underwent IVF and implanted two high quality embryos so I wasn't super shocked I had twins.

Hey, did my second scan yesterday and confirmed twins. I already knew because we did GIFT and inserted 7 good eggs, plus the hormone numbers were crazy high. But DH really needed to see to believe!

I was confused bc my first scan at 4.5 weeks showed only one sac, like your pic, but now we clearly saw two. These are di/di twins, the lowest risk kind, with separate placentas.

They looked good, about the same size and same heart rate, and the right size for 6w5d. I really hope they survive and we get to raise them.

Let me know how things turn out for you!
