June 2021 Moms

Any 40+ moms/mons to be?

Is anybody here 40 or over?

Would love to see if any other 40+ moms have the same concerns as I do given our age. What extra appointments/ultrasounds will you have due to your age? Any genetic testing?

While I am not a FTM, my kids are almost 7 and 9 so it's been a hot minute.

Would love to see how other 40+ moms/moms to be are doing.

Re: Any 40+ moms/mons to be?

  • Not 40+, but considered AMA since I am over 35.

I have additional ultrasounds, partly because we were doing fertility treatments and other part is due to AMA. We had an ultrasound at just about 6 weeks, another 8 weeks and last for first trimester at 10 weeks.

We will do NIPT between 10-13 weeks, our insurance covers for 35+. It is a newer screening that is a blood draw, and screens for DNA abnormalities (and can tell gender).

My OB does beta/progesterone ASAP for AMA as well because AMA sometimes has trouble producing adequate amounts of progesterone.

I am on exercise restrictions until week 9 and was recommended to see nutritionist, but haven’t decided yet when/if I will do that.
  • I'm 40+ and pregnant through IVF.  We did genetic testing on the embryo so thankfully that hurdle is already cleared!

I have my first ultrasound and OB appointment at my RE today and my first appointment with my actual OB is about 2 weeks.  So I guess I'm still waiting to find out what will be required!  When I made the OB appointment she did mention they may have me also work with some type of high risk specialist, I can't remember the exact name of the specialty she used.

I'm also a FTM so I'm generally just feeling really overwhelmed with everything right now and constantly worrying that I'm doing everything wrong!

Hi! I’m 41 and pregnant with #4. Two of my three babies I had when I was AMA (36 & 37 to be exact). I haven’t had my first appt yet (I go the 26th at 7w 6d), but I’m assuming I won’t have anything extra unless there is a problem. Although I do worry about miscarriage given my age and I had two losses and secondary infertility between babies 1 & 2.

I ended up actually having the most ultrasounds with my first baby (when I was 32 yo) because I had a low lying placenta and they wanted to check to make sure it had moved up prior to delivery. I also had an NT scan with him which I didn’t have with baby 2 & 3 because I just did NIPT with them. So, as far as I know it’ll be the same with this baby. A dating scan at 8 weeks, the anatomy scan at 20 weeks and that’s it (unless another issue is happening). I was honestly pretty bummed I wouldn’t have more scans for being “old”. Ha!

  • I just made my first appointment and it isn't until I'm 10 weeks!!

    *trigger warning* Loss mentioned.

I've always had early appointments to track betas and u/s around the 6/7week mark due to a history of pregnancy loss. I had a NT Scan with my first (which we lost at 17 weeks) and CVS with my two living children. I'm assuming I'll most likely have a CVS with this one.

With COVID, their protocols are now 10 weeks at the earliest. Not sure how I'm going to make it that long. I already have tons of worry due to loss, throw in my age, and I'm going to be a mess til Thanksgiving!

@notawhoops My first u/s isn't until im 9 and a half weeks, so almost 10 weeks like yourself. It feels like an eternity away :( I hope the wait goes fast for us both. I've had 2 losses so I know the agony in waiting that long and the worry and stress.
  • also not 40 but i'll be 39 when this one is born, i'm freaking out i just found out tonight. I was on progesterone with my previous pregnancies and of course i won't be able to call until monday.

  • Hang in there @chele129!! Fingers crossed your progesterone is just fine!! I was on progesterone with baby #2, and my progesterone with baby #3 (and also now this pregnancy) is actually just fine!

Ugh, @notawhoops I’m so sorry you have to wait until 10 weeks! How far are you now? I have to wait until 8 weeks and that feels like agony alone as that’s the longest I’ve had to wait foe the first u/s with any of my babies. Hang in there!

  • @mamakate2011 I'm only 4ish weeks as I only found out two days ago. This is definitely the longest I've had to wait for an u/s, too. Hoping the time goes quickly for us.
