@fitzfizz I just said to @bows22 in the TWW thread, that between you and her you guys are up early! I came on assuming I might have to start a thread since I was early and everything was already done!
Anyone else doing any online shopping this week? I'm trying to figure out the prime deals and just bought a bunch from old navy (50% off online sales). Walmart sales are starting today and Target is tomorrow.
@_orchid_ it’s like a thicker cut bacon with just the slightest bit sugar on it to sweeten it. For a fast food food item, it’s really good. Definitely better when it’s on the crispier side!
As for shopping, Amazon Prime day is tomorrow and Wednesday! Definitely going to have to check out those other sites. I really want to start my Christmas shopping on the earlier side this year.
Also trying to get shopping done early this year, especially since I'm hoping to have to mail all our gifts since we won't see any family. My birthday is mid December so I always try to be done by then so I can enjoy that time. This year I want everything mailed by then.
In case anyone was wondering, lab results came back and (for once!) the news was good.
TLDR: The mutation my husband has likely doesn’t matter, unsure of whether to tell people who may also have it.
One of my in-laws also has the mutation my husband had tested positive for, so it probably doesn’t matter. Since it is a never before seen mutation in an important gene for brain development, there is always going to be some question, but there is no more information we can really get at this point about it. We have a 50/50 shot of passing it on, and we will be getting additional monitoring in any future pregnancy anyway, so we just aren’t going to worry about it further.
The one thing that still gives me pause is what (if anything) to tell his family. He has a brother who also has a 50% chance of having this and is actively TTC, and 3 cousins that also could be affected. Since it likely doesn’t matter, part of me wants to tell no one as it would potentially freak them out about something that doesn’t matter. However, if there was a problem and we hadn’t told them even though we knew about it, I would feel like a POS. The genetic counselor couldn’t tell us anything other than “it probably doesn’t matter, so whether to tell anyone is just a preference” and his family is looking to me because I understand this all better than they do because of my background in genetics and medicine.
Any thoughts? Basically if there was a chance you had a genetic mutation that *probably* doesn’t matter, but could affect brain development, would you want to know? It wouldn’t change what you can do (IVF with PGT is not an option), but with knowing about it I am definitely glad we will be getting extra monitoring.
Sorry for the novel, but I really can’t talk to anyone in my real life about this as I don’t want them to know this much about the situation.
@_orchid_ I love online shopping, so that is an enthusiastic yes for me!
@daisy528 and @chindimples04 I just get up weirdly early because I start work at 7am most days. My “post-shower all alone coffee and bump time” in the morning is my best chill time every day.
@fitzfizz I’m glad the mutation likely means nothing! Good news is rare while TTC.
As far as telling your family, I would. They know about the testing right? So they will get the results? I would just confirm with them after they get the results what the genetic counselor told you. I don’t think they will worry too much and the ones who are TTC might like the extra peace of mind and monitoring.

@krash_ To clarify, no one else in the family besides my husbands parents know anything about genetic testing, and his parents already know because they were tested. Telling other family (mainly brother and sister in law) about this would basically mean telling them a lot of specifics they don’t know about the situation. Also, someone knowing about this would not necessarily mean they get extra monitoring. Since it is new and not known to be a problem, insurance will not cover additional monitoring for anyone else as far as I know. Basically, knowing about this wouldn’t change anything they can do, it would just be awareness.
@fitzfizz I personally would want to know if I were a sibling or would tell if I were in your shoes. But I also 100% see where you are coming from. Does DH have a preference?

@fitzfizz If it were me, I would want to know so that I could go ahead and get extra monitoring in place once I’m pregnant. That exposes your journey to them though. I’m not sure how much your family knows. Will you be comfortable with that?
@chindimples04 and @emeraldcity1214 Thanks for the input! My husband is also unsure and thinking about it, so I will talk to him again. It would be uncomfortable to tell them about everything (we aren’t close, and they live in another country) but the more I think about it we are likely going to talk to his brother at least. I’m leaning toward not saying anything to cousins. I had planned to talk to my husband again about it today, but now that I realized I am ovulating today, I think I’m going to put that off...
@fitzfizz I agree with the others that is give your BIL a heads up, maybe not the full story about why you did the bloodwork but some kind of notice. That way in case it ever manifests (in them or in their offspring) they're aware. Maybe if your ILs are closer to them you could ask them to mention that one of them has it and it turns out YH does too. That might also take some curiosity about why you had the bw done too, if your ILs share it.
@emeraldcity1214 I thought my app was glitching! I am almost certain you can delete a board, so that others can learn from mistakes made. I’m so confused!

@krash_ sadly, it will be my husband’s. But it has heated seats, a sun roof, back up cam, and a large enough back seat for car seats. I’m so jealous, but his car is so, so dangerous. The cruise gets stuck, it’s leaking fluids, and it stopped running on the interstate. But I’m super excited! It’s a 2019 Fiat 500 with only 4,000 miles!
