Weekly Appointments 09/28

Just thought we could have a thread to keep each other updated on how our appointments are going this week.

Re: Weekly Appointments 09/28

  • Wednesday at 10:30.  I confirmed that we are able to Facetime, so that's good.  I have a new OB, so I have a laundry list of things I need to write down so I don't forget to talk to him about them.

@texas_t Lol ok! Mine is next Monday and my fiancé is allowed in, but our city is being moved to red alert today and we will find out tonight what that entails, but most likely strict confinement. So, I'm worried he won't be allowed after this.Partners weren't allowed at ultrasounds from March to end of June here last Spring. If there's an up side to all this it's that I had also booked one for this Friday at another clinic, where he wasn't allowed, so if he's not allowed next Monday, I'll get an earlier scan in just a few days...I'd still much rather he's in there with me. I plan on calling this Wednesday to confirm.
  • i dont have an appointment this week but wanted to chime in regarding SO's being allowed in
@texas_t that's amazing they are allowing the facetime.  i know in normal times, i wasnt allowed to take photo of screen with my phone so i am wondering if the rule will be changed because DH is not allowed in.
@mimser i have been having a lot of PGAL brain regarding my first scan and i am going to be calling my doctor before my appt next week to see if they will make an exception to the rule based on my history.  keep us posted--i hope YH can go in with you

Same as @asf0613 -no appointments but chiming in. Things are still pretty strict across the board here in NYC, so my practice isn't allowing partners at appointments. I very much wanted DH with me for my first u/s last week esp. given my history (not sure how I would have gotten through the experience last year without him with me) so I'm hoping next week I can facetime or record my 8 week u/s. I understand this is all for safety AND I feel like he's getting robbed of part of the experience of being a first-time dad.

I hope to God we're in a much better place come next May but, if not, I'm also comforted by the fact that my practice delivers at the one city hospital that never barred partners from being at births this year due to COVID. (There was a 2 or 3 week period this year where city hospitals barred partners because a hospital lost staff to COVID after an infected partner came in. After a legal challenge, that got reversed.)

  • I have my first OB appointment tomorrow and I have to take my 4y/o with me as our childcare fell through.
In BC they are allowing partners in to U/S appointments but my husband can't come to the first one as its my daughter first day at outdoor preschool. Hopefully he can come to the anatomy scan.

@mimser 🤞🤞 I hope he can come with you!!
  • No appointments but also chiming in about spouses at appointments. My OB's office is not letting partners in for appointments/ultrasounds so DH couldn't be with me for my first one (I was okay with it since this isn't our first but I was kind of bummed after since that's when I found out we're having twins). I have my first MFM appointment in about a month and I don't know if they're allowing partners but I really hope so. They're doing a nuchal translucency scan at that appointment and if we get the results right away I'd like for him to be there in case there's anything abnormal. Not sure what the current policy is regarding partners in labor/delivery and obviously a lot can change between now and April/May but I think our hospital is allowing one support person.
  • I just go in for my blood draw this week. I do have my first appointment with my OB next Monday. Thankfully our doctor’s office is letting partners come in.
  • @asf0613 I also have my high risk OB intake next week and I asked if SO could come considering our history and they said that they would make an exception. Now that was last week, and we are red alert as of today so I will ask again whe  they call to confirm, but I am worried. We'll decide with the OB how we'll manage this pregnancy and do what we can to avoid another PPROM and I feel this is a couple decision and discussion.
  • Woohoo! So happy for the ladies who can bring their men. I haven't asked the imaging lab where I get all my testing and anatomy scans if they're allowing partners...I'm going to ask if DH can come to the NT/NIPT appt cause that would be his first chance to see bb.
  • I went in for blood and urine sample this morning. The hardest part of it was not being allowed to eat 8 hours before.
  • There it is, partners no longer allowed for ultrasounds 😔 we missed it by 6 days. I'll discuss with my fiancé when he comes home, but that means I'll probably have my scan on Friday instead of Monday... I had also booked one for this Friday at another clinic, where he wasn't allowed from the start. 😬 That's in 2 days!
  • Such great news @texas_t!
  • sorry @mimser..i know you are disappointed and im sure YH will be too.
  • @mimser I'm so sorry your husband can't come with you.  Are you able to facetime?

    *Loss of Twin 5/2018*

  • @texas_t I don't know, I'll ask on site. We went there for my 12 week US last time and that's what we did. But it's like a different office for scans before 10 weeks so I'm not sure, but I hope so!
  • @mimser ugh that sucks...I'm so sorry! Fingers crossed he can FaceTime with you or something!

@texas_t I'm glad you liked the new OB and that YH was able to go too!

My coworker was telling me today that her husband hasn't been able to go to any of the appointments and she is 26 weeks (I think). So far, DH is able to come with me...it's so crazy how the rules are totally different by office even though they are right down the street from one another.

  • @marz1pan Oh I'm so sorry you have to wait, I know that is so hard.

  • @Marz1pan I'm so sorry, the waiting is the worst. Praying you get good news at your next scan.
  • @Marz1pan so bummed your appointment wasn't more definitive. Hoping it's all clear and great news in 2 weeks!!
  • @Marz1pan I hope you get all the reassurance in 2 weeks!🤞
  • @marz1pan hoping your appointment in two weeks shows some amazing progress and bears good news
  • @audmomout I think everything appointment related is welcome here 😊
  • @audmomout What I've heard about midwives is that they take a more holistic, traditional approach, therefore, they do less ultrasounds. I had one friend who the only ultrasound she got was the anatomy scan at 20 weeks. That said, I know even some OBs don't do a dating ultrasound unless there is an indication something is wrong, or your cycle was irregular. Also, I know that it's very common for both OBs and Midwives to ot use the doppler this early, it can be hard to pick up a heartbeat before 12 weeks, so they don't want to alarm anyone if they can't hear anything. One thing I've learned from these boards is that it's amazing how much things differ from practice to practice.
All this is not to say that your feelings aren't valid. I would probably be bummed too. Is going to one of those private ultrasound places an option? Just a thought...
Also, this thread can be for anything appointment related. You did not post in the "wrong spot" at all.
  • @Marz1pan  Oh I’m so sorry. I hope the fibroid was just obstructing the view and everything is ok.
  • @Marz1pan sorry your appointment was not more definitive. Hoping the fibroid was just obstructing the view and baby is steadily growing along.
  • @mrosek91 it totally makes sense that each practice can be way different. I just saw somewhere in my “welcome packet” that they typically schedule one u/s per trimester, so I just blindly assumed that would be this appointment since that’s how it was with my OB. I need to get used to the fact that everything is going to be a lot different! It is comforting to hear that some OBs don’t do the dating scan if everything seems typical, thanks for sharing that. We might do a private u/s, but after reading what you shared I’m a little less edgy about it lol
  • @audmomout sorry it isn’t going to be what you expected. I think it would make me a little nervous to not have the dating u/s, but only because I know so many others do have it. I’m sure they will talk through it with you when you go to your appointment, and maybe they want to do the us a little later in the first tri. - Sorry, can’t remember exactly how far along you are
  • @Marz1pan I'm so sorry they couldn't give you more answers and that you have to wait so long to go back. That sounds really tough.

@audmomout I would definitely be bummed to not get a dating scan at my first appointment! I only had he dating scan and anatomy scan with my first and it was a bummer to not get the 12 week one where the baby actually looks like a baby but we at least got to see him at the first appointment. I also have a friend who only had one ultrasound and that was the 20 week one...she found out at 20 weeks she was having twins! Definitely not ideal lol but she was still excited

  • @spartan4life Oh my word, I can't even imagine finding out at 20 weeks that she was having twins! You've definitely settled it, I'm going to schedule something at StorkVision next week LOL
