  • Yay for good news @ec1212! I know what you mean about the amnio/CVS. Truthfully,  my fiancé and I should have that talk in a few weeks, but I don't even know if we'll do any tests this time. The reason for my last loss being preterm premature rupture of membranes, I don't really see us doing an amnio or CVS if our NIPT results were high risk. One thing at a time I guess.
  • @mimser I don’t even know if I would do an NIPT if it weren’t for the fact that we can also find out the sex. The upside is that we’d have more time to prepare for a potential diagnosis but downside is additional stress (moreso for my husband than for me, since he is more stressed about the ramifications) since I wouldn’t then confirm with an amnio and we’d wait it out.

    Highly personal decisions! But just trying to enjoy some deep breaths for today. One day and week at a time. ❤️
  • @ec1212 oh yeah definitely enjoy today's news!
  • @ec1212 Congratulations for a great appointment!

  • My HCG was a little low last week, so I went in for another draw this morning. The doctor said that she's not concerned, and it's probably just because I'm still so early, but she wants the blood draw from an abundance of caution. So of course I'm trying not to freak out.
  • @mrosek91 bummed for the added anxiety for you. 😔 I’m also awaiting my numbers because ms still hasn’t kicked in and because I guess I feel like freaking out for the next 9 months. I wish pregnancy anxiety gummies were a thing for us.
  • Had my first appt yesterday (at 5 weeks 2 days) - no u/s yet, they're going to do it in 2 weeks. So far everything looks ok but awaiting my bloodwork!!

    @mrosek91 fx it's all fine!!
  • @mrosek91 we'll have our dating scan on the same day. I hope it's a good day 🤞
  • My first appointment is 10/23, I’ll be about 11 weeks. It seems so far away but there were no openings. Do you think I should push back and try to get in sooner? Get a blood test somewhere else just to confirm? This is my first pregnancy. Argggggg :/
  • @windycitygirl36 11 weeks seem so far indeed! Realistically though, I think if you don't have a concerning history, aside then from easing your nerves, it's perfectly fine to be seen once from when you find out to 12 weeks.
  • @windycitygirl36 usually if you just want a blood test you can get in quickly because it’s a nurse appointment and you don’t have to book time with your Dr. But @mimser is right, if you don’t have any past issues there’s not necessarily any reason to go in earlier. Keep in mind that a disproportionately large # of people here have had prior losses or fertility issues & that is the reason you’re seeing early ultrasounds etc :) I always have to remind myself of that too.
  • I was able to get an earlier appointment for Wednesday for my blood draws, instead of 2 weeks from now. Now I'm pretty sure that my new OB will order more when I meet her next week. Are there any risks to having 2 big blood draws over 2 weeks? I just wondered, they take so much blood in early pregnancy...
  • @mimser you mean the big blood draw, not just hcg? If they’re doing it now, I wouldn’t think they’d do it again in 2 weeks. I was in super early at 5 weeks for an ultrasound and had the bloodwork done then just for convenience, to get it done with. That one was 5 vials 😐
  • @ckmb_1250 yeah the big blood draw! The first one is ordered by my GP and I have a feeling my OB will want more stuff checked... and yes mine was like 8 vials...
  • @mimser definitely double check with your doctor, but I work in a clinical lab and from my experience, there is no greater risk for a second blood draw within 2 weeks of each other unless you have reactions to blood draws in general. One vial of blood is about a teaspoon of blood so it's really not as much as it appears to be.

  • @spartan4life thanks! And yes I'll ask the OB. I suppose that worst comes to worst, we can just do the extra draws and transfer my results from my GP ...
