Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: pomegranate

Upcoming appointments: sept 8th for the anatomy scan! Sooo close!

How are you feeling?: I’ve been ok, but some days if I don’t drink as much water as my body is used to, I feel more aches and pains and nauseous. It’s harder for me to keep up with my usual 100oz now that I’m back at work and wearing a mask all day!

Rants/Raves: rant- back at work in a school and there’s no direction for us from admin/higher ups. Everything is “a good question. I’ll get back to you.” Kids start after
Labor Day, but it’s still a shitshow for staff as of now.

    Questions: none!

GTKY: with the changing weather happening, tell us your favorite season and what you love about it!
+1 to everything fall and my bday in October helps. I got my first bag of Autumn mix candy corn last week (I know candy corn is a big yuck for a lot of ppl here!) and my first pumpkin coffee from Dunkin. Bring on the boots, big sweater, and legging season-especially with my growing belly!
  • @moguippy we did Daniel Tiger when my oldest was 2 and we were pregnant with #2. It worked really well. Both the books and the episodes from the show about Baby Margaret.
  • @moguippy for my DS, I got him the board book titled "My New Baby" and he likes it. Bonus: it's one of the few kid books about babies that show a baby nursing rather than drinking from a bottle.

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Orange? IDK I don't keep track. LOL
Upcoming appointments: Sept 25 for the anatomy scan! Can't believe we're already this far!
How are you feeling?: Feeling good! But can't feel any movement yet, so it's the anxious part for me since there's no constant assurance that everything is still ok.
Rants/Raves: I've got some energy back, and we went to Anchorage this past weekend so I got to go to Target and got to get Qdoba, which is as close to Chipotle as you can get here in Alaska (Chipotle was my craving with DS, and now is my craving with this one, too).
    Questions: nothing right now!
GTKY: with the changing weather happening, tell us your favorite season and what you love about it! I used to love fall, but fall is just rain and cold weather here. Now I love spring. The days get longer, and there's the anticipation of summer. Spring is like Friday, Summer is like Saturday when all of the fun activities happen and you've got long days of sunlight to do everything, and Fall is Sunday evening. Winter is the weekdays with not much time for activities because the window of daylight is so short.

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a can of soda

Upcoming appointments: September 30 for anatomy scan!

How are you feeling?: Pretty good, still headachy

Rants/Raves: My husband's grandmother passed away last week so we made the decision to come out to New Jersey for the funeral. I understand by choosing to get on an airplane, I am taking on a certain amount of risk of getting Covid. However, I did so under the assumption that certain policies would be in place and enforced, including mask wearing by all passangers. Our flight was 100% full, and mask rules were not being followed or enforced which just really made me nervous and pretty annoyed.

Questions: Back in like week, 6 (?) I freaked and swapped out all of my normal beauty products with natural products. Most of them are fine, but some I just really miss those chemicals (think deoderant). What are people's views on natural products versus regular? Do you go all in? Try your best realizing that there are probably some things that are slightly frowned upon? Not bother? I know that generally natural products are better, but do you try harder in pregnancy?

GTKY: with the changing weather happening, tell us your favorite season and what you love about it! Oh man, maybe this answer isn't fair, but I really get excited for each season. When summer is approaching I love that the days get longer, the air gets warmer, the pool opens, so many great things! By the end of summer, I get excited to don my sweaters, drink a PSL (basic, I know), halloween, and all the fun that comes with fall. Winter is what I used to say was for sure my least favorite (I work long hours in the winter, and really don't like to be cold), but now that I live in Colorado, I so look forward to ski season - not so much this year, but instead we get to look forward to a new addition. Spring, I really just like the anticipation of summer, getting back on the golf course, and spring skiing. To summarize, I think I'm a four season kind of gal! ;)
  • @kkfishy9 I wouldn’t worry about that. First pregnancy I was like you and worried, and went all out to try to minimize any chemicals. Now, unless it’s something that I ingest or inhale and has clear issues (think: drinking mimosas or painting indoors with paint fumes aplenty) I don’t worry.
  • @mdfarmchick DS loves Daniel Tiger so that is a bonus. I’ll look for books.  @hannahbananas11 I’ll look for that one too!

@kkfishy9 I have not given up regular deodorant lol. I don’t use a ton of things with chemicals bc I have sensitive skin but I haven’t changed shampoos either. I don’t think it’s a huge deal (except acne medicine, that you definitely have to check on).
  • @hannahbananas11 @moguippy thanks! I'm glad to hear others aren't too worried. I think sometimes I work myself up into a tizzy convinced I am going to poison my child ;)
  • @kkfishy9 From what I gathered in my first BMB, it’s absolutely normal for ftms to be really diligent and cautious with everything (both pregnancy and postpartum) and then with each subsequent kid, you get more and more laid back with the little stuff. Basically if it’s not a medicated topical thing like steroid cream or acne cream, I don’t think there’s much risk with topical things.
  • @kkfishy9 I had some of the same concerns but I’m trying not to worry to much and just be mindful when I can.  There is also no way I could switch to natural deodorant without being the smelliest person ever!

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Pomegranate
Upcoming appointments: Waiting to schedule anatomy scan week of 9/20.
How are you feeling?: Pretty good! Definitely noticing a bump starting to pop.
Rants/Raves: We need to move to a bigger apartment and this is the first time my husband and I have to pick out a place together. I didn’t know how picky he was going to be...this might be a very long process!
Questions: Is anyone else’s hair falling out? I was prepared for it to fall out after the baby is here but not before. I was hoping for that thick beautiful hair I kept reading about. Any suggestions to help?
GTKY: with the changing weather happening, tell us your favorite season and what you love about it! Fall, I love cool, crisp fresh air!
  • @kkfishy9 I use native and it works pretty well! But I agree with the others that you’ll be fine using regular. It’s hard to avoid every potentially bad thing. It’s all around us gahhh!

@szwill86 I definitely notice more pain and aches when I’m not drinking enough water

    Upcoming appointments: In 4 weeks.
How are you feeling?: slightly nauseous (probably from this suspicious hot chocolate I drank)and pretty thirsty
    Rants/Raves:

Doctors appointment today. No ultrasound but we heard the heart with a doppler.

Asked about my tingling fingers. Apparently the baby is sitting on nerves and I can't change that.

Only gained 2 pounds this month.
Finished my video shoot and you shouldn't able to tell Im preggo.

    Questions:

Has anyone really signed up for childcare yet?

GTKY: with the changing weather happening, tell us your favorite season and what you love about it!

Fall because I look amazing in jewel tones.

  • @earlgrey_honey for childcare, it really depends on where you live. When I lived in a big city, the waitlist for the good childcare centers was over a year long. Here in my small town, they usually have immediate openings (but really poor selection/quality, which is partially why I chose to stay home once we moved). I’d call around to the different centers by you and see what the usual wait is, and what the application process/tour process is like in the time of COVID. Find out age minimums, hours, prices, etc. Keep a spreadsheet to organize the info for each place. Look for reviews, take tours, and basically know where you want to apply, and know when you have to apply. That way you’ll be fully prepared and ahead of the game rather than scrambling with a newborn.
  • @hannahbananas11 sort of related but not....what took you guys to Alaska? I went on a cruise there a couple years ago it was awesome. Loved it so much!

How are you feeling?: heartburn sucks, lower back pain might be the death of me and SO excited for anatomy scan

Rants/Raves: I’m hating my job lately and thinking of the sahm life might be in my future

    Questions:

GTKY: with the changing weather happening, tell us your favorite season and what you love about it!
Fall..bring on the cider, football, apples, pumpkins and cooler weather.

    @tamalahoops love trey Kennedy!
  • @hannahbananas11 you totally did. That sounds like an amazing weekend 😉
  • @hannahbananas11 That’s awesome! I like a mix of the two. We lived in a very rural area in GA for two years and it had literally nothing. One Walmart. That’s it. The closest anything was an hour drive in any direction. It was rough. There was no fun hiking or outdoorsy things, there was just gnats and mosquitos everywhere. I delivered my son an hour away because I didn’t like the one local hospital. So I’m slightly averse to super rural now but also really love rural aspects of life. I just need places to bring my kids to play and I like to be surrounded by a variety of different types of people... and a target nearby of course.
  • @earlgrey_honey I just called yesterday to put this kiddo on the daycare list for next June after my mat leave is up. Currently a lot of ppl have pulled their kids out of daycare for health/safety/financial reasons so she said he would definitely have a spot. I only called now bc I called to pull my DS out since we will be sending him to a smaller daycare for this year. In my area daycares usually have long waits unless they are a lower quality daycare or super expensive.
  • @birdiejo oh God, rural GA is pretty in the fall, but yeah, definitely not my cup of tea, either (we lived in Atlanta for five years right before our move to AK, and hiked up in north GA quite often, but didn’t go south of Atlanta very much).
Sadly, the nearest Target to us is a few hours away. That’s probably the saddest part (besides family all being a 6+ hour flight away). I miss frequent Target trips so much.
  • We were south of Atlanta, closer to Tallahassee in FL. It was rough. But before that we were out in the PNW for awhile and I love it there!

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: We have an orange this week!
Upcoming appointments: Telehealth appointment on Sept 8th for a checkup! Next ultrasound at 20 weeks!
How are you feeling?: Tired a lot! More than my first trimester...
Rants/Raves: Trying to read as much as possible about babies, sleep as much as possible, and manage my work stress level!
Questions: Anyone have any suggestions with energy boosts? I sleep super late and tend to stay up later as well! I need to break this habit. I used to love coffee but am only doing one cup a day these days to decrease caffeine intake. Also trying to get more fruits and veggies to help with energy but nothing seems to be causing major change! Help!
GTKY: My favorite season is summer, but I live in New England and fall is quick approaching! I'm ready for the cooler weather and pretty leaves!
  • 18+2 TTM
Anatomy scan 9/15 which I'm very excited/nervous for. I'll think we'll tell the girls about the baby after that ❤️

My brain really doesn't work. I had to scroll up to see if I already posted. I think working from home makes all the days blend together.

DD1 started 4k today! She's also in wrap around daycare in the same building so I'm not sure if she will notice much difference 🤷🏻‍♀️

GTKY: I love fall 🍁🍂🧡 I love fall colors, cider, hot chocolate, hiking/camping, hunting, Halloween, apples, all the good fall stuff

I do appreciate the changing seasons of the Midwest though, I get to be excited for each one and they change before I'm tired of them.

  • @culatoski my husband is a night owl as well, and had to adjust his sleep to match his clinic hours. He doesn't drink coffee frequently, so caffeine wasn't a thing for him. He found that consistently going to bed early (for him, that was 10:30), and consistently waking up early even on the weekends made the biggest difference. It took a month or so to actually start working, though. He also finds that working out (he runs) first thing in the morning gives him a big boost of energy to last him until lunch. If you exercise regularly, you could try moving your exercise time to the morning. The adrenaline and endorphins really help with energy throughout the day.
  • @moguippy. Got it. Spreadsheets freak me out but I've heard the waitlist can be 12 months plus in the dmv.
  • @kkfishy9 I didn't really make a specific effort to swap out products, but I've stopped wearing makeup due to COVID (I wear a PAPR or N95 all day and can't imagine wearing makeup with those!). I had to stop taking my rosacea medication due to the pregnancy so my skin is basically a nightmare already. I did stop using my topical retinol treatment. The evidence on that is mixed. I honestly think its probably fine, but I really wont miss it that much so I just gave it up. I had tried to switch to natural deodorant a few years ago and couldn't find anything I could tolerate. Last week I ran out of my regular Dove deodorant and found that they now make a natural one that so far has been working pretty well. So I guess I switched that, but not because of the pregnancy.

@earlgrey_honey I have been thinking about and procrastinating about childcare. It's so hard to know what next year will look like. Right now my husband has a lot of flexibility and is working from home, so we might get away with part time care, but normally that is not the case. I also know from previous research that we probably can't afford any of the childcare centers in our neighborhood and will need to look outside the neighborhood if we go that route, but I don't know what neighborhoods to consider, because my work location keeps changing due to covid. I know centers book really early in my area, but I can't get motivated to look into it, because it seems too complicated.

Upcoming appointments: Cervical check US and midwife appointments next Tuesday.
How are you feeling?: I overdid it over the weekend and actually had to call out of work yesterday due to a combination of exhaustion, nausea and back pain. I'm having a hard time accepting my reduced capacity and understanding how I am going to get done everything that needs to get done before February with so little energy.
Rants/Raves: Why am I still nauseous?!?!?!
Questions: When will the nausea end!??!?! Lol.
GTKY: with the changing weather happening, tell us your favorite season and what you love about it! I used to love summer, because I like the warm weather, but as I've gotten older and moved to the east coast its too hot and humid for me to enjoy. Now its Spring, because I get the most convertible weather during the spring!
  • @manditchka24 I still get super nauseous if I don’t eat throughout the day. I also threw up this morning and I’m 18 weeks tomorrow ugh! I threw up daily until 25 week with my son. I hope it goes away soon! My ob said it should by 16 weeks and it could be extra stomach acid and to try Pepcid. I’m just weird about taking anything during pregnancy so I try to just eat throughout the day instead.

@elizabethkd23 hmmm I don't typically notice more hair loss during pregnancy. My first question would be are you taking vitamins every day still? I would bring it up at your next appointment and maybe bring your vitamins to have your doctor look at the dosage 🤷🏻‍♀️

ETA: I've been wearing my hair up a lot more since working from home and I don't wash it every day so I'll see "more" hair loss when I finally do something with it but it's just from multiple days being up

Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: I’m not even sure! I haven’t been keeping up!

Upcoming appointments: Sep 15th birthing center tour, Sep 16th anatomy scan

How are you feeling?: Today was tough. Had a lot of counseling sessions with adolescents and it emotionally drained me. But overall I’m feeling okay if I drink enough water during the day.
Rants/Raves: I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 11 weeks. I have my blood sugar controlled through diet and exercise, but it’s just such a sad life to live for another 22 weeks! I’m in a HUGE feb 21 due date group on fb (which I hate the size of, I’m impatiently waiting for this one to switch platforms 😂) and someone posted a picture of a bag of sour chewy sprees and I just crying. I miss processed sugar so much.

    Questions:

GTKY: Fall! I love the cooler weather, the sound of football constantly on in the background of my home, the fireplace up and running again, and all the cardigans and scarves.
  • @andylandy511 girl i feel ya so much. gd for 3 weeks now (18 weeks along now) and i miss some sweets and stuff. I am controlled too, except I am having a fasting/overnight sugar problem still and I can't figure out why? my number is supposed to be under 95 in the am when I wake up, and i has been like 98, 99, 100.  A few nights i ddin't eat a nighttime snack at all and some I ate something small, so IDK if it is just not enough for that stretch of time between dinner/morning or what? any thoughts? Sorry to ramble. My numbers during the day are all perfect!
But there are some things I miss so much. and my husband is an ice cream addict so that doesn't help either! I"m just hoping that the payoff will be (other than a healthy baby), less weight gain this pregnancy!
  • @PinkKathryn12 I think blood sugar peaks around 8 am, so try taking it before that. I’ve also found that making sure I’m well hydrated helps my fasting numbers, but you’re so close to the target range it’s probably fine. Uggghhhhhh my husband is a skittles, sour patch kids, ice cream, nachos, all delicious carby foods fiend!!! It’s tough! I hope it means less weight gain this pregnancy! We’ll see!
  • @andylandy511 I usually take it at 6:45 am, about 15 min after i wake up for the day. I eat breakfast around 7 on my way to work. I'm just gonna try some different types of snacks around 930 pm and see. It is pretty close to normal still so I'm not super worried but I also want to make sure I'm doing the right thing
  • @PinkKathryn12 - My dietician also recommended playing around with dinner time & before-bed snacks to help with fasting sugars. When do you normally eat last?

  • @babymamadimo I am sorry to hear you are still so nauseous as well, but happy to hear I’m not alone! Thanks for sharing. I’m crossing my fingers that 16 is the magic week where it goes away for me (so far so good, but I’m back on meds).
