@emeraldduchess I don't wear contacts anymore (thank you, lasik!), but they asked me repeatedly if I was wearing them on my ER day. So I think glasses is probably the best bet, but your clinic might be different.
@shoogapoff thank you! I hate wearing my glasses outside of my house, but I am obviously not driving myself so it won't matter. I can always ask when they give me instructions about the procedure. My clinic has just been telling me things step-by-step. I got today's blood test results and my estradiol went down just a teeny bit, so they're bumping up my meds again to 300 of Gonal-f and 4 vials of Menopur. I go in again tomorrow for monitoring and may be triggering tomorrow evening. I honestly didn't think I would respond as quickly as I have since I tend to O around CD20 or later.
@emeraldduchess It's not like they're going to have you walk around blind! They'll have you wearing your glasses the whole time. I'm not even sure I know the reasoning behind not having contacts in (I guess cuz they could get lost in your eyes while they're closed? idk). Wear your glasses, you'll be fine!

I’m not sure what they do for sedation, but I have seen someone get a bad corneal abrasion from contacts with conscious sedation. Not worth the risk! Go with glasses!
@emeraldduchess I have terrible eyesight and usually wear contacts but wore glasses for mine. I didn't have to walk around by myself at all, I got hooked up to the IV in a waiting room and then two nurses helped me navigate with the IV stand to the procedure room, and then I woke up back in the waiting room (on a bed). Then I was able to put my glasses back on once I was awake. I have had two corneal abrasions from sleeping in contacts and like @fitzfizz said totally not the risk even though you are only "asleep" for like half an hour.

@emeraldduchess I'm v. excited for your ER on Sunday. What's your current follicle count? Also, when I did my ER for freezing, I had mild conscious sedation, not general anesthesia. I personally enjoyed it because of the science-y aspect (being able to see the aspiration). I hope you will too.

@akoros I sometimes share your feelings re: do I belong on this thread or not; in fact even today I re-read the thread intro just to be sure. Alas, you are definitely in the right place as this community is so welcoming and soothing. And, allow me to get science-y/nerdy for a bit, I've recently learned that there's a difference between fertility and fecundity. The latter, is your physiologic ability to bear children, which you have since you can conceive. The lack of fecundity is sterility. However, fertility is actually the output of reproduction; and hence since you have been unable to carry to term, you do have infertility.
@shoogapoff how far from CD1 are you? I am hoping so hard that this FET works for you and that you have a very healthy baby.
@ramzlau Good luck with your IUI(s). How was YH's sperm? How are you feeling? Unfortunately I don't have any opinion/knowledge about success rates for double-IUI given the washing aspect. I have purchased FertilityIQ's IUI course which I intend to review today, so if I learn anything there, I'll share.
Diagnosis (if you've been): PCOS (in my 20's)... more on this below; my RE claims "unexplained"; NaPro OB says "Late Luteal Phase Defect". Take your pick!
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): completed our final tests; met with RE yesterday to plan next steps; talked with the genetic counselor from Myriad (the supplier our genetic tests) this morning. Now, just waiting to see if a) we succeeded on our own this month; or b) ceasing taking progesterone tomorrow, waiting for CD1 and starting the IUI process!
How are things going?: Okay, so easy stuff first. Met with the genetic counselor this morning to review the genetic results that we received last week (I am a carrier for Nephrotic Type 2 disease) and the counselor said that since MH is NOT a carrier, then chances that our baby(ies) would have it is effectively none; it basically equates to the chance of the genetic testing for MH being wrong, and those chances are <1 in 1M. But, there is a 50% chance that our babies would be carriers of same disease.
Slightly harder stuff: had a f/u with our RE yesterday and still really like her, feeling positive about working with her. The plan remains: superovulation w/ Clomid + IUI. Btw, @inthewoods23, she too confirmed that chances of IUI working is 12-15%. Pretty freakin' low. 🙁 Insurance doesn't cover any IF treatments for us, so we'll be paying out of pocket. I also asked her if double-IUI would increase our chances, and she basically said that not really, and since we're self-pay, it's not worth it for us to pay the extra money to do that. So, next steps here is signing consent forms, WFAF (or maybe not? 🤞🏻maybe I've scared my body into doing what it should do?!), and then it's off to the races. Really feeling confident about this clinic and our RE.
Finally, PCOS... I've been doing a lot of reading about this since it comes in so many shapes and sizes. And I'm pretty sure I have something called haPCOS (hypoandrogenic PCOS). Let's start with the fact that I've definitely had been diagnosed with PCOS at age of 25 b/c I had cysts. Then fast-forward to current day, and u/s that show no cysts, androgen panels that come back normal and, in fact low-range, of normal (my testosterone was below ref range). Then, a person from the other fertility community I'm in – Modern Fertility – suggested that I exhibit symptoms of haPCOS and pointed me to the research done by Center for Human Reproduction and I found this case study: https://www.centerforhumanreprod.com/fertility/the-hypoandrogenic-pcos-patient-the-monthly-case-report/. Other than the fact that I'm not 43, this case study very closely matches my symptoms. Most importantly is this line from this report "low intra-ovarian testosterone levels adversely affect early stages of follicle maturation." Which... hello... the reason NaPro said I have luteal phase defect... because my follicles under-develop and don't "properly" release an egg ("weak ovulation"). Anyway, I just e-mailed the RE and asked to have my SHBG tested. And if she doesn't want to, I'll just order it myself from Walk-In Lab.
Any questions?: Am I the only one with this unyielding desire to get to the bottom of my fecundity issues? Like before we start throwing treatment at the problem, can we just figure out what's wrong? Blergh.
GTKY: What are some good movies you have watched recently? Like @ramzlau, we watched Star Wars about 2 months ago and loved it. Also, like @akoros, watched Ford vs. Ferrari and loved that. Last week we watched Radioactive on Prime and it was pretty good/educational/makes you think (about the positives and negatives of Marie/Pierre Curie's discoveries. Also that Curie family is freaking talented! Her daughter/son-in-law won a Nobel prize as well!
@acleverusername I don't know how "out" I will be, but I had a lymph node biopsy 9 years ago that was supposed to be conscious sedation...I slept right through that. Considering it only take me like a glass and half of wine to get buzzed, I will probably nod off or I just won't remember it at all.
So I am not triggering tonight like I had hoped, which means ER will either be on Monday or Tuesday. And of course I got a call about an interview on Tuesday. I asked about rescheduling for later in the week due to a possible medical procedure, the administrative assistant checked and they can't do that, so I left a voicemail (and emailed...desperate much?) asking if I could sign up for a time for Tuesday and if I have to cancel, I will let them know. Of COURSE my ovaries are now messing with my life outside of TTC.

I mean, I do believe it because these things seem to always happen once everything gets lined up correctly. Anyway, I hope that the scheduling becomes a non-issue next week and that everything does indeed fall into place perfectly.

But reading your updates, it sounds like a lot of good really came out of that appointment and the therapy appointment. it sounds like you and the RE have a really great plan for moving forward! @acleverusername we were given low odds on IUI too, but we wanted to try it before going straight to IVF because *TW* we did get KU twice but they ended in early losses (CPs). That's really interesting about haPCOS. I never heard of that before. Definitely pursue that testing with your RE!
I didn't hear back from the admin. assistant, but most school offices close up shop around 3:30pm, so hopefully she can get back to me on Monday. I am SO over these stims and this job search.
Edit to add update: The nurse at my RE's told me I had at least 2 follies measuring 16mm today. I assume that's good? I don't know how many I have total or what they measure. I go in for another u/s and blood test tomorrow. Crossing everything that things are moving along!
I had my 5th monitoring appoint this morning and...
My estradiol is over 4,000 (whaaaaatt???) and I have follies ready to go! The ultrasound tech was super-chatty (he complimented my sloth socks, too), said I responded very well and that my RE would be happy with what she saw on the scan. I trigger tonight, go in for a COVID test and blood work tomorrow! If everything checks out, my retrieval is on Monday! Which means I can STILL make my interview this week and DH doesn't have to ask for time off of work (orientation starts for him mid-week).

Thanks, ladies!! The lupron trigger did its job, so as long as my COVID test is negative (and I have no reason to think it won't be), retrieval will be tomorrow! I hope someone from the hospital is going to call and tell me what to do since we've been given almost zero instructions.
The COVID test wasn't bad, but it definitely gave me a jolt! My eyes are still watering and I feel a tingling behind my eye two hours later. This has been such a long road and I know we're nowhere near the end with no guarantees of success, but I can't help but feel excited and optimistic right now.
@acleverusername I admit, I forgot the word "fecundity" existed, let alone the distinction. Thank you, and thank you to everyone who have been so supportive. When I'm in the throes of grief I tend to get tunnel vision and can only think of myself, which I'm emerging from and started to second-guess things I said or did while I was being self-centered. I definitely don't want to hurt or make anyone uncomfortable, and now that I have a clearer head I wanted to check.
@emeraldduchess Glad you've gotten good news! The COVID test is weird...the nurse explained it to me very well, but still didn't make sense in my head that I see a swab go "up" my nose and then I feel it in the back of my throat (but the top of my throat, which is not a place I "feel" very often).

I hope that your going on my medication for stress/depression/anxiety will do the trick. @akoros I sometimes share your feelings re: do I belong on this thread or not; in fact even today I re-read the thread intro just to be sure. Alas, you are definitely in the right place as this community is so welcoming and soothing. And, allow me to get science-y/nerdy for a bit, I've recently learned that there's a difference between fertility and fecundity. The latter, is your physiologic ability to bear children, which you have since you can conceive. The lack of fecundity is sterility. However, fertility is actually the output of reproduction; and hence since you have been unable to carry to term, you do have infertility.
@shoogapoff how far from CD1 are you? I am hoping so hard that this FET works for you and that you have a very healthy baby.
@ramzlau Good luck with your IUI(s). How was YH's sperm? How are you feeling? Unfortunately I don't have any opinion/knowledge about success rates for double-IUI given the washing aspect. I have purchased FertilityIQ's IUI course which I intend to review today, so if I learn anything there, I'll share.

Diagnosis (if you've been): PCOS (in my 20's)... more on this below; my RE claims "unexplained"; NaPro OB says "Late Luteal Phase Defect". Take your pick!
Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW
What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): completed our final tests; met with RE yesterday to plan next steps; talked with the genetic counselor from Myriad (the supplier our genetic tests) this morning. Now, just waiting to see if a) we succeeded on our own this month; or b) ceasing taking progesterone tomorrow, waiting for CD1 and starting the IUI process!
How are things going?: Okay, so easy stuff first. Met with the genetic counselor this morning to review the genetic results that we received last week (I am a carrier for Nephrotic Type 2 disease) and the counselor said that since MH is NOT a carrier, then chances that our baby(ies) would have it is effectively none; it basically equates to the chance of the genetic testing for MH being wrong, and those chances are <1 in 1M. But, there is a 50% chance that our babies would be carriers of same disease.
Slightly harder stuff: had a f/u with our RE yesterday and still really like her, feeling positive about working with her. The plan remains: superovulation w/ Clomid + IUI. Btw, @inthewoods23, she too confirmed that chances of IUI working is 12-15%. Pretty freakin' low. 🙁 Insurance doesn't cover any IF treatments for us, so we'll be paying out of pocket. I also asked her if double-IUI would increase our chances, and she basically said that not really, and since we're self-pay, it's not worth it for us to pay the extra money to do that. So, next steps here is signing consent forms, WFAF (or maybe not? 🤞🏻maybe I've scared my body into doing what it should do?!), and then it's off to the races. Really feeling confident about this clinic and our RE.
Finally, PCOS... I've been doing a lot of reading about this since it comes in so many shapes and sizes. And I'm pretty sure I have something called haPCOS (hypoandrogenic PCOS). Let's start with the fact that I've definitely had been diagnosed with PCOS at age of 25 b/c I had cysts. Then fast-forward to current day, and u/s that show no cysts, androgen panels that come back normal and, in fact low-range, of normal (my testosterone was below ref range). Then, a person from the other fertility community I'm in – Modern Fertility – suggested that I exhibit symptoms of haPCOS and pointed me to the research done by Center for Human Reproduction and I found this case study: https://www.centerforhumanreprod.com/fertility/the-hypoandrogenic-pcos-patient-the-monthly-case-report/. Other than the fact that I'm not 43, this case study very closely matches my symptoms. Most importantly is this line from this report "low intra-ovarian testosterone levels adversely affect early stages of follicle maturation." Which... hello... the reason NaPro said I have luteal phase defect... because my follicles under-develop and don't "properly" release an egg ("weak ovulation"). Anyway, I just e-mailed the RE and asked to have my SHBG tested. And if she doesn't want to, I'll just order it myself from Walk-In Lab.
Any questions?: Am I the only one with this unyielding desire to get to the bottom of my fecundity issues? Like before we start throwing treatment at the problem, can we just figure out what's wrong? Blergh.
GTKY: What are some good movies you have watched recently? Like @ramzlau, we watched Star Wars about 2 months ago and loved it. Also, like @akoros, watched Ford vs. Ferrari and loved that. Last week we watched Radioactive on Prime and it was pretty good/educational/makes you think (about the positives and negatives of Marie/Pierre Curie's discoveries. Also that Curie family is freaking talented! Her daughter/son-in-law won a Nobel prize as well!

So I am not triggering tonight like I had hoped, which means ER will either be on Monday or Tuesday. And of course I got a call about an interview on Tuesday. I asked about rescheduling for later in the week due to a possible medical procedure, the administrative assistant checked and they can't do that, so I left a voicemail (and emailed...desperate much?) asking if I could sign up for a time for Tuesday and if I have to cancel, I will let them know. Of COURSE my ovaries are now messing with my life outside of TTC.
@emeraldduchess I can NOT believe the timing of your ER and interview next week!!! Can the universe not give you a break already?!?! I mean, I do believe it because these things seem to always happen once everything gets lined up correctly. Anyway, I hope that the scheduling becomes a non-issue next week and that everything does indeed fall into place perfectly.
@inthewoods23 I'm sorry the second opinion appointment left you feeling down. But reading your updates, it sounds like a lot of good really came out of that appointment and the therapy appointment. it sounds like you and the RE have a really great plan for moving forward! I hope you are starting to feel a bit better about it today.

@acleverusername we were given low odds on IUI too, but we wanted to try it before going straight to IVF because *TW* we did get KU twice but they ended in early losses (CPs). That's really interesting about haPCOS. I never heard of that before. Definitely pursue that testing with your RE!
I didn't hear back from the admin. assistant, but most school offices close up shop around 3:30pm, so hopefully she can get back to me on Monday. I am SO over these stims and this job search.
Edit to add update: The nurse at my RE's told me I had at least 2 follies measuring 16mm today. I assume that's good? I don't know how many I have total or what they measure. I go in for another u/s and blood test tomorrow. Crossing everything that things are moving along!

My estradiol is over 4,000 (whaaaaatt???) and I have follies ready to go! The ultrasound tech was super-chatty (he complimented my sloth socks, too), said I responded very well and that my RE would be happy with what she saw on the scan. I trigger tonight, go in for a COVID test and blood work tomorrow! If everything checks out, my retrieval is on Monday! Which means I can STILL make my interview this week and DH doesn't have to ask for time off of work (orientation starts for him mid-week).

Labs | high TSH, Factor XIII mutation, high %CD56
Follow up | 8.8.23 | prescribed metformin, prednisone, plaquenil, and levothyroxine
Repeat labs after 3 weeks on meds
Follow up | 11.9.23 | Green light!, increase in prednisone, added lovenox
Repeat labs in 8 weeks
Follow up | 1.16.24 | Green light continues

10/19- First RE visit
2/20- DH had surgery for bilateral varicoceles
7/20- IUI with 5 mg letrozole- BFN
9/20- IVF. 9 eggs retrieved, 9 mature, 8 fertilized with ICSI, 7 blasts, 4 PGT-A normal
11/20- Mock transfer/ERA
12/20- FET #1- transferred one 4AB- BFN
3/21- FET #2- transferred one 3AB- BFP! Due Dec 2021
12/21- Baby girl born!
The COVID test wasn't bad, but it definitely gave me a jolt! My eyes are still watering and I feel a tingling behind my eye two hours later.
This has been such a long road and I know we're nowhere near the end with no guarantees of success, but I can't help but feel excited and optimistic right now.
@emeraldduchess Glad you've gotten good news! The COVID test is weird...the nurse explained it to me very well, but still didn't make sense in my head that I see a swab go "up" my nose and then I feel it in the back of my throat (but the top of my throat, which is not a place I "feel" very often).
