@kerriec93 Yes, that sounds very similar to what I'm being told. I need to stop working (in person) at 37 weeks according to my OB because of the risks associated with a COVID delivery. I called the pediatrician and he recommended that my two older kids also stay home from school/daycare from 37 weeks. DH and I have to wear a mask the whole time. DH actually isn't even allowed in to the hospital until I've been admitted, they're not allowing anyone other than the mom in the triage area. I'm only allowed one person with me and we are not allowed to leave the room. Once I get home, no visitors unless they're masked and have been self isolating. We should continue with those rules for 6-8 weeks and absolutely no travel.

  • Thank you @crizz13 ! The letter was fairly vague, stating the shelter in place at 37 weeks and then only having one support person. Didnt mention any other specifics, so I'm going to ask more at my appointment thursday. Luckily I've got about a week of time off I can use before I will officially have to start my maternity leave.. trying not to stress too much but at the same time I don't want to be completely in the dark about the situation :/
  • @1sttimemomma98 after I had my son via c section the nurses did fundal massages every few hours and it was the freaking worst. Thanks for reminding me, I’ll ask my OB about that too. My uterus shrank back down super fast, I could feel it contracting each time I nursed. If it’s optional I don’t want it!
  • @1sttimemomma98 I think I had fundal massage after birth, but things were pretty hectic, so I don't remember it well. I was reading this Evidence Based Birth article about managing the third stage of labor that talks about the lack of evidence for uterine massage to stop bleeding. https://evidencebasedbirth.com/evidence-on-pitocin-during-the-third-stage-of-labor/

  • The fundal massage didn't bother me, but only (probably) because I had epidurals and they didn't continue to do them once my meds wore off completely.

  • @surlyjaneausten yeah my mom had a c-section and said the massage after was brutal, I can’t imagine ☹️

@hedgepig thank you for the article! I’ve definitely read some differing things about their effectiveness, so I’m a bit skeptical about them. But I’ll probably just defer to what my OB typically does unless I feel strongly about it by the time november rolls around 😂

@crizz13 that’s good to know! sounds like everyone’s had different experiences depending on the circumstances of the birth. which definitely helps me keep my mind/opinion of them open bc I have no clue how the birth will end up going!
  • Update: my OB does do fundal massages after birth, so that’s good!

Not so good: I gained 10 lbs since my apt 4 weeks ago 😵 I feel like I don’t look different at all, so I was surprised! I have to start watching what I eat more I guess :/
  • @1sttimemomma98 I am always so surprised how much weight I’ve gained when I step on the scale! I also gained 10 lbs between my 20 week visit and 24 week visit, but like you said, I don’t feel like I look like I did. So, you’re not alone! 🙂
  • So late posting this week!
    Estimated due date (EDD): 11/23

    Week of pregnancy: 25

Baby is the size of: Eggplant

    Upcoming Appointments: September 2nd (I think 🤔)

Rant/Rave: Sleeping is just not happening and I am 100% miserable. It's amazing I can still function at work these days!

    Questions?

GTKY: What is the best gift anyone's ever given you? I love Agatha Christie and always wanted to read her Autobiography but (at the time) it was out of print. I mentioned this to DH (who was only my boyfriend at the time) and he bought me an old library copy for my high school graduation! He also found and bought her other memoir for me and I knew then he was a keeper! 😍
  • @acdc1109 +1 on the miserable sleep! And it seems like the one time I do get comfortable, I realize I have to pee. 😑 I've tried my hardest to stay on my left side, but then my leg and back starts aching. So then I roll onto my right and it never fails, instant heartburn. About to resign myself to the recliner until November 😅
  • Estimated due date (EDD): nov 29th

    Week of pregnancy: 24

    Baby is the size of:cantaloupe

Upcoming Appointments: just my next midwife one with the glucose screening ugh .. it’s in 3 weeks I believe

Rant/Rave: i have SPD and it’s horrid! My chiro puts my pubic bone back in place every week but my whole crotch hurts all the time! I will be happy when baby is on the outside .
Rave : my son has cerebral palsy and we had an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon and as of now he has no reason to believe Patrick will need surgery to help correct any movement patterns! He got Botox on Friday and he has shown a lot of increased interest in using his walker to walk so hopefully we will move in that direction! Proud of the kid for sure ( he’s 2.5 and has a twin brother )

Questions? None this week, I feel like I’m way more miserable then last pregnancies but not sure if that’s because you forget or the 4th baby is worse lol

GTKY: What is the best gift anyone's ever given you? Hmm my fil gave me a 1957 Chevy nomad a couple years ago and that’s pretty hard to beat!!
  • Ugh I hate the fundal massage . I am 100% freaked out by epidurals so I have given birth with no meds for my last 2 pregnancies. They shove on your stomach and it makes you want to punch the poor nurse every time!
I am giving birth at a birth center this time so maybe they will be more gentle since everyone who gives birth there is pain Med free so hopefully they keep that in mind . Nursing hurts enough with the contractions the extra physical contact is never appreciate by me lol . I noticed nursing after the se one pregnancy (the twins ) was a lot more painful then with my first . I’m expecting the same since my body knows what to do now.
  • Re:fundal massage...im not in week 4 but hope I can pop in and ask...what is a fundal massage and is it necessary?😳
  • @ecolton01 Yeah I’ve heard it can be very painful especially on top of nursing I can’t imagine!!

@babywiik to my knowledge it’s when they massage your abdomen to stimulate contractions. it’s done to help pass clots and prevent hemorrhaging and to encourage your uterus to shrink back down (from what I’ve read on the internet and heard from my OB). that being said, there seems to be conflicting research on whether or not it’s actually beneficial 🤷🏼‍♀️
