Twatwaffle Tuesday 8/4/2020

Re: Twatwaffle Tuesday 8/4/2020

  • Hurricane Isaias and the New York City Department of Education. One for knocking down so many dang trees and power being out all over, and the other for being completely incompetent with no actual plan to go back. Ugh.

  • @willashbaby. Preach it girl!!  We got a call this morning that our rental house in NC has a flooded basement from the hurricane.  Not much we can do from GA but make some phone calls.  Really takes my anxious mind off the A/s tomorrow though.

My mom works for the school district.  Today was her first day back and she sat in meetings all day discussing in person classes.  The whole time the presenter was like this can change after the school board meeting this evening.  The public health dept, hospital system, and mayor were like this is a bad choice!

Hopefully they will come up with a plan for you guys and your virtual work plan gets approved.  Saw in the weekly update the insane number of applications they received!
  • My co worker. She gave me a new client to our office- this client is going to be a total PITA. I think she expected me to tell this person we can’t help, but this persons family and mine go back four generations it turns out, so I couldn’t really say no without it being an issue. 🙄🤦‍♀️

  • Not one, but two of the companies I worked for last year who straight up didn’t pay their unemployment taxes and screwed me out of $5k that I thought was coming my way! Hooray for criminals!
  • Sorry guys I’m late catching up on all of the boards this week!

@willashbaby @dobiemom11 our school board voted today to start with e-learning for the first 4 weeks on Aug 24 and they’ll vote on whether to extend e-learning in a month. I think so many of us are relieved but it’s frustrating for teachers and parents who have such a short term plan! I guess that’s what we have to deal with though so they can try to please everyone - a crappy middle ground

@laurenspdx omg is there anything you can do about that???

@mom_of_the_vogels it sucks to always have to be the leader, but on the bright side it sounds like maybe you’re the best party planner in your fam and that’s why they are relying on you, so at least there’s that :) we are also dealing with family’s unreasonable holiday expectations both around COVID precautions & the fact that we’ll have a newborn. I wish everyone would just chill. None of us having December babies can plan that far in advance around so many unknowns! I feel for you.
  • @shelmcclel I’ve spent about 20 hours (no exaggeration) on hold with specialists at the unemployment office trying to figure it out. At this point they’re doing some more research and sending it up the chain but who knows if I’ll ever hear back 😩
  • @laurenspdx we’re you at least able to get the $600 federal benefit? Hopefully you’ll be able to somehow get paid as self employed...
  • @autumn87654321 Ya, luckily I was able to get that even though my weekly benefit was super low. That was a lifesaver. Now I’m working a few gigs again but was really banking on that stack of back pay to get some great baby stuff 😕
