I went to a board game night at a close friend's house and MH was one of my friend's roommates. We met about 5 years ago, have been dating for 3.5 years, and have been married for almost 2 years (will be 2 years in October).
A friend of a friend was getting married. I was texting my friend while they were getting their hair done (she was a bridesmaid) and the bride said hey does bows want to come to the reception? We had a bunch of people back out at the last minute and I’m still paying for them. I was like eh why not? They have a ton of friends so I knew it would be a fun party. My friend introduced me to her “partner” in the wedding and we clicked immediately. The rest was history! That was 7 years ago, and we’ve been married for 5.
i started working as a coat check in a restaurant that DH worked in. we hit it off right away! that was almost 11 years ago (and we worked together on the weekends up until a year ago at the same place) so we've been together for 10.5 and married for 6!
MH and I met on Coffee Meets Bagel. I posted a sweaty, unfiltered post-workout selfie and that made him click "Like". We have been together for almost 3 years and just celebrated our first wedding anniversary.
I feel like an old fart when I say I've known DH for 15 years (since high school). We met in the robotics program (yep, the same one we're mentoring now, same high school too). A fundraiser we used to do back then was a murder mystery play. I don't remember if DH had any lines, but I was the reporter person who spits out a giant paragraph of a speech at the end of the play revealing who was the killer. We did practices during the summer at a mentor's house and supposedly I looked at DH "seductively from across the living room" a few times. I was going into my junior year, him his senior year, but we didn't start officially dating until I got to college. I crushed on him hard but he was dating someone at the time. We did have a bit of a fling the following summer (they were broken up) in which we hung out a TON but he still wouldn't date me because I wasn't 18. So technically we're college sweethearts, but we liked each other back in high school.
Fast forward what feels like a billion years to 2016 when we finally got married so we've been married just over 4 years now

DH and I met at a downtown music venue where his band was playing. I was seeing a friends band and he stopped me I to ask if I had any medicine for a headache. We were both goofy and we talked there and at other shows that we saw each other at for the next couple of months. He eventually added me on Facebook and we realized we were from the same town! I was finishing my junior year or high school at 17, and he was 20. We’ve been together ever since! We married in October 2013, (almost 7) but have been dating for 9 years!
DH and I met at 14 as freshman in high school. We both swam, but honestly didn’t really become friends until junior year, then started dating spring of our senior year. Fun fact: freshman year, both of our moms (independent from each other) mentioned how cute the other was to us and we both were like “eh”. I guess sometimes moms just know? Anyway, we went to separate colleges and made it through with only one short period of “breakup”, and now have been together for 10 years and married for 4!
DH and I met at work. We used to work together in the same office and were good friends but both were with other people at the time. He split from his women and I left my guy awhile after that. I got fired from that job 😆 we remained friends and kept in touch and then ended up hooking up as we had crushes on each other and didnt know and then started dating and eventually got married 🥰 Been married since March of 2019 but been together since 2012, so a long time!
We met in 2013. I interviewed for a librarian position at the boarding school where he was the tech director, and he did one of the interviews. I got the job and we started dating in March of that school year. I was on the way out of an ill-fated long term relationship and he is 2 years younger, so it took me a little time to warm up to the idea. I told him I wanted marriage and kids within the next five years on the second "date" (which really was just a hook-up) and he didn't run away. We got engaged 2 years after that and married 4 months after. Our 4th anniversary is in three days!
We met our senior year of college. We had actually met a few times before then through friends of friends but never struck up our own friendship or anything. Our friend groups ended up hanging out at Homecoming our senior year and then we started talking in class (we had one class together but had never really acknowledged each other) and then started chatting on facebook and eventually started dating. We went "official" about 5 months before we graduated which ended up being kind of stressful in the spring since I was planning on moving across the country after graduation. We both ended up staying in the city we went to school in and moved in together a month after we graduated. This December will be 11 years together and our 8th wedding anniversary is this Fall!
@inthewoods23 DH and I also met in HS 17 years ago almost! We're 3 weeks away from our 15 year dating anniversary! We would have met otherwise but he actually ended up being really good friends with my older brother which made us not act on our feelings until they graduated from HS (he's 2 years older than me). It was a bit tough the first few years b/c my brother was not cool with us dating. We've been married for 4+ years (I was not in a rush and we had a long engagement - many friends met and married their husbands in the 2+ years that we were engaged lol).
Eight years ago at VBA training class (Visual Basic for Applications, basically how to write macros in Excel). While I was at a computer station checking my work email he took the computer next to me and, I think, made a crack about how slow the computers were, or something to that effect. We started up a conversation, and then the next day when he came up again to talk to me I realized that maybe he was actually interested and not just bored. Then I got nervous about how to try harder without seeming like I was "trying" (I was in the middle of moving and putting off laundry, so I was little gross the first few days). Once I figured it out I gave him an opening to propose a first date while we talked about a shared interest in kayaking. We moved in together three years later and then got married 2 1/2 years after that.
Now that I know him I'm kind of amazed this happened, because he's very introverted and I don't talk to people when I'm in a training class (seriously, at that specific course I'd run away at lunchtime with a book and eat by myself, I was totally thrown when he asked if we wanted to have lunch together one day).
@inthewoods23 and @kvh22 You feel old? Now I feel old, because DH and I met at grad student orientation (8 years and 6 years after we graduated high school ) 14 years ago this fall! We were just friends at first. Our grad program only had about 24 people in it, and they were literally the only people I knew in a brand new city. I did not want to get involved with someone from the program in case it didn't work out and things got awkward. I guess is was meant to be because after a few months of hanging out, studying, and getting meals as "just friends", we went on an "real" date 14 years ago this November. We will have been married 9 years in September.

@DoubleUp8 haha I didn't say I feel old. I've been with DH almost half of my life and it's not super common. I almost feel embarrassed sometimes when people find out how long we've been together b/c I could still pass as 22 (freckles are the bane of my existence). And everyone saying "awww high school sweethearts" when we didn't actually date while we were both in HS. Idk, something about it just rubs me the wrong way since it's not accurate and we met with a lot of hurdles in our relationship and were basically short-distance from the get-go with intermittent long distance spells across the country or in foreign countries.
@kvh22 Yeah, it is hard when people don't know your story and just assume. I remember when a professor found out about a year after we had class together with him that we were dating, he has no clue, even though we were dating the entire time we were in his class. We were always careful to not to be super "couply" on campus or out with our friends since we had such a small, close knit school and friend group. But I think sometimes people thought that meant we weren't a close couple since we weren't all over each other and didn't need to sit next to each other all the time.

@kvh22 people are very surprised to find out we've been together for so long too! People who don't know us would think we're in a fairly new relationship as we both still look quite young. In fact, people mistake me for a high school student on the robotics team sometimes.
When we had a few interns last year one of them thought I was close to his age thinking I was like 24/25. Nope. I turned 31 this year. I don't feel like I should be 31 though.
@DoubleUp8 I'm just glad I never had to deal with being out in the dating scene because I didn't party much in college nor would I even go out to bars now. I mean thank god for online dating, that's probably the only way I would meet someone now if I wasn't with DH.

@DoubleUp8 haha exactly! I feel like they put is into some high school sweethearts bucket. Not that there's anything wrong with that bucket, we just don't fit there at all. We live in California and when we meet people it's like "I'm from NH...so is he. Yes, the same place."
@inthewoods23 lol people think I'm an intern at my company (admittedly, I was 9+ years ago).I specifically try to throw around how long I've been there so people realize I'm not even in my 20s (I'm also 31 but don't feel it - or 31 is just younger than I thought it was at 22). MH and I swiped right We had our first date in September 2014 after talking for a couple weeks, we actually lived in different cities at the time (about 100 miles apart) and ended up taking a break in March 2015 to figure things out. He then tore his Achilles in May 2015, and I drove up to help him heal, and we realized we missed each other and would do whatever it took to figure things out. He ended up quitting his job and moving in with me in early 2016, and then we got engaged in late 2016 and married in August 2017

We met when I was helping an event-planning friend host a singles mixer/happy hour event after work in NYC. The main event was watching the finale of a live dating show on all the screens in the swanky bar/lounge. My job was to get on the mic during commercials & encourage people to introduce themselves to each other, as well as greet guests at the door of the event to help them feel comfortable. MH walked in & my heart fluttered. We had a good convo & exchanged biz cards but nothing more. We bumped into each other at another event the next week, & had our first date the next night. Within 6 weeks we knew that was it. We’ve been together about 6 years, married for 3.
Not sure how I missed this thread! I love meeting stories!
DH and I met in high schools I actually met his friends first at a water park on vacation. My best friend and I went with her dad who know DH’s friend’s dad. This was all 2 days after I was diagnosed with Toxic Shock Syndrome (I was cleared to go on the trip). DH’s best friend friended my best friend on Facebook and I got jealous because he didn’t add me, so I added him (I was 16, can you tell? 🤣). We started talking in June (after a few attempts, he was super nervous about talking to me because he was overweight and didn’t think he deserved me), and we started dating July 2011. That was the summer before our senior year. He lived an hour south from me but we visited on weekends and supported each other at our games and events when we could. He moved to my hometown for college that next summer. We got engaged in 2016, before our “super senior” year of college and got married in April 2018. We just celebrated 9 years together. So basically, I met him on Facebook before ever meeting him. 🤣 Feels very high school. Lol.

A day late, but I wanted to participate! DH and I were set up by a friend on a blind date. Well, not totally a blind date because we had talked on the phone a few times before. My friend set that up too...she worked with him and had to call him about something when I was conveniently with her and she literally said, "oh, you should meet my friend Emerald, she's right here!" and handed me the phone. She gave him my number after that and we eventually agreed to meet up for a movie. It's really funny because DH and I are very much opposites. He's all about sports, I am a theatre nerd. I always say that it's a good thing we DIDN'T know each other in high school because we very well might have disliked each other.

Lol.
