Virtual Classes

I thought this thread would be nice to have due to a lot of people not being able to go to the normal child birthing classes.

Are you able to attend any classes?
Which ones did you find the most/least helpful?
Do you have any questions about the classes?
Feel free to share advice on the pregnancy classes you attend or helpful videos.

    My best advice I got when pregnant with DD was to take a breastfeeding class. I had planned to take the childbirth and CPR, but BF was not on my radar. I just thought it was common sense... hahah dumb. It was super informative and I don’t think I could have done it on my own. I also wish I would have done the caring for a newborn one.

    My OB told me they planned on starting up the classes again next week, but with this new breakout it’s been pushed back again. For now they are giving videos and some free resources. When I get my hands on them and if they are in a shareable format, I’ll share them. 

    For the most part, most of the classes I went to when pregnant with DD were videos with an instructor that did some hands on training and was there for questions. So I think the digital training will be suitable. 

    Has anyone done a sibling class? Do you think it will be beneficial to do one with a 17 month old?

    I was really looking forward to taking classes through my hospital but as of now we aren't sure if they will still be doing them. I use an app called peanut and they hold different events sometimes (online Q&A's and stuff like that) and I just found out they are doing a breastfeeding online class type thing for free. They partnered with the site Milky Mama/the nurse who runs it and the virtual class is called "Breastfeeding 101 with Milky Mama". It is on August 4th. Not sure how good it'll be but it is free so why not?

    Ugh. The classes my hospital offered were WORTHLESS.

    @crizz13 I listen to the Birth Hour and keep going back and forth with whether or not the Know Your Options course would be worth the money. You think it was worth the investment?

    @bserena I bought the course and though i haven't gotten very far into it, I like it so far. I also like that it's a one time charge and if I'd ever have another baby and want to go back and look at it they'll give access again for free. Also, I've been loving the podcasts: the birth hour and positive birth stories

    @babywiik I want to say that you have lifetime access, which is a big bonus. I definitely considered taking that class, but wound up deciding I don't need another round of classes. Do keep us updated on how you like it!

    Other than the Know Your Options class, I know that Evidence Based Birth offers classes that are usually a mix of online and in person, but are 100% online right now. I love the Evidence Based Birth stuff in general, so I imagine the class would be good too!

    My hospital isn't offering anything (thanks, Covid). I will likely do the weekend birth class, postpartum planning, & breast-feeding + newborn care classes offered as a bundle through Birthsmarter. My very best friend did the weekend class and found it invaluable since she didn't have a doula for her l&d. Also, the instructors are local to NYC and accessible to ask all your weird questions to. FYI, the reason I'll do the bundle is that it's the same price as just the weekend birth class!

    @bserena I like that it's broken in to modules and I can do it at my own pace. I can also have my husband watch the ones that I think would be most relevant to him. I got it while they were offering a pretty steep discount and have it forever, so worth the investment to me. Especially since I'm going to be laboring at home a LOT longer this time to avoid being in the hospital (CoVID exposure and laboring with a mask don't sound ideal to me) and want to be more prepared than my previous two births when I got epidurals pretty early on.
