DH: what do we need to do to get ready for the baby? There must be a list. You have a list right?
Me: not really, but I am sure they have them online. We will need to go back and find the first trimester list to see if we missed anything on it. We are way out of the first trimester, but still good to review.
DH (playing on phone): Wait! What? We are out of the first trimester? When did that happen?
Me: Like 12 or 13 weeks
DH: What week are we on?
Me: Almost 18.
DH: Wait! We are almost halfway done. Major freakout!
Just got my full read from the anatomy scan and everything is looking perfect! The screenings all brought relief but for some reason this one feels like biggest exhale so far. The fact that it has all those little organs working hard and that my body is doing a good job feels really good. It just feels more real in a way that hasn’t so far. I’m in love ❤️
Some good news! I just spoke with my leave rep and I have six months of medical leave at 75% in addition to my maternity leave (16 weeks at 100) so I could go on medical leave tomorrow and come back after maternity and my job will pay me the whole way through!!! And ... you know... still be there on the other side.
Given the struggles I’ve had with HG- that’s super reassuring.
@the_road_to_oz this is freaking amazing! This must give you a lot of relief. I can’t remember, are you in the US? Because if you are you’ve found a magical unicorn!
Yesterday was national ice cream day, so DH and I went to Culver’s after dinner. He always gets a concrete with banana and marshmallow. When we were waiting in the drive thru, I somehow asked him if he was getting “banana and MUSHROOM”. 🤦🏼♀️

@the_road_to_oz that's awesome news! It's great to know that's an option if you need it. And thanks for the reminder to research what I need to do HR/benefits wise for my company. I can't remember a single thing I did last time haha.
I sent my first inquiry to a newborn photographer this morning. Last time we just did the Bella Baby package at the hospital and were pleased with the results. This time that won't be an option and so I'm trying to get a feel for how local photographers are handling things. Anyone else thinking about booking newborn sessions?
@karmba Yes, we are! We did not do any in the hospital last time (I wasn't interested in the slightest) and instead we had a photographer come to our house for a casual session around 1 week old. It was marvelous and relaxed and I loved it. We have already talked to the photographer about doing it again.
@jchpg yes! I work in NY. NY mandates 12 weeks paid as of this year, but the company has a 16 week maternity and I pay for the short / long term benefits- but they are like $12 a month so VERY reasonable and not something I could get on the open market.
And this *shouldnt* be a unicorn 🙄 I put a lot of research into a family / female friendly company when I went back to work after my son (I lost my job to complications with his pregnancy the first go round) and I probably earn a little less with this company but the culture makes it worth it. I’m at a decently high level professionally (I’m a financial advisor with 14 years industry experience) so I have the ability to be a bit more discerning about what company I work for than earlier in my career. Absolutely privilege. The single biggest benefit to having kids at 35 instead of in my 20s- helps offset some of the physical issues that come along with being older. 😆😆😆
@karmba I used to be a professional photographer- it’s been a decade, but I still have lights and cameras, so my plan is to do them myself. I just need to buy a backdrop. Or six, because I remember how that goes “ooooh that’s cute too...”
@the_road_to_oz I had no idea NY had that new mandate. It’s a great step forward (still not enough...). I had DD in Switzerland and got 14 weeks 100% plus supplemental income when she was born. Even with this the other Europeans thought it was horrible and didn’t understand why leave was so short, many places have from 6mo- 2 years paid.
When I was on the job market in the US I asked about leave and so many places boasted about the 12 weeks they gave, and my response with an eye roll was “oh the federally mandated 12 week unpaid garuntee to have an equivalent job when I return?!” They acted like this was so great.
I’ll get the 12 weeks, +2. I found out my employer does not included holidays, which is great. We have auto enroll in short term disability which gives me a chance at being approved for 100 % pay for whatever they approve, I’ve heard it’s at most 6 weeks. I’m old too (37) and wish that age brought me some flex, but in the end I THINK I’ll have some leeway when I return as they will have had to hire adjuncts to cover my classes and it would be odd to fire them 3/4 of the way through the semester, so I’m working with my boss to focus my attention on other things- that will allow me to work from home.
We are having an impromptu gender reveal party tonight for the family! I ordered food for my mom in CA to be delivered and everything so she can join us from afar via video call!
I actually asked my doctor about that and she said she thinks they’re useless. She advised to have the seatbelt low across your hips, not across your belly.
@autumn87654321 There is only one which is actually crash tested. https://tummyshield.com/ The rest you have to assume they may cause more harm than good and might break.
Anyone else getting weirded out by seeing things advertised to you after someone mentions it here? I’ve just seen in the last 5 minutes the pregnancy seatbelt and pregnancy pillows advertised to me on Instagram. 😳

@bearmomma1. On the one hand it is super creepy. Both my mom and sister have been getting breast pump ads after looking on Pinterest about planning a Zoom baby shower.
On the other hand, my Pandora keeps telling me about egg freezing and fertility clinics in MD. I think it missed the baby memo and the fact we haven't lived in MD since 2014.

@dobiemom11 Pandora used to play nonstop ads from a local fertility clinic when I was dealing with IF before DD. Getting constant reminders made me really sad so DH gifted me with a premium subscription for a year just so I wouldn’t have to hear the ads 😍
@gingkomama we used a pinata! I wasn't quick enough to get a video of the explosion. But I have an aftershot video where everyone's yelling it's a girl and there's a pink explosion of confetti and petals on the ground with candy. We shared the videos and still shots of it on facebook and no one connected the dots, lol! I am not sure how to share a video here?
@autumn87654321. Direct quote from DH: I would like to unsubscribe from these daily updates. They don't make any sense. (I normally give him the daily fact with his morning coffee!).
