Re: TWW Monday 7.20

  • Hi ladies! I've been kind of MIA since the beginning of my cycle because, after a very long cycle last time (50-ish days) around I was feeling kind of discouraged and decided to take a break from thinking about this stuff and see what happened. The good news is that I'm on track to have a perfectly normal-length (for me) cycle this time! But I have a question I'm hoping y'all can shed some light on (below).

    CD/DPO: 21/1

    Timing: -5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0

    Typical LP length: 14 days

    Testing: Not yet.

R/R: Okay, here's my question. As I mentioned a while back, I was scheduled to have my annual OBGYN check-up this past Saturday, and I planned to ask my doctor then about if I should be concerned about my irregular cycle length (last three cycles were 41, 32, and 50 days, normal for me has always been 32-35 days). For background, this was only my second time seeing this particular doctor. I brought up my concerns to her and she was very open to getting the ball rolling on some basic testing to see if something is up (yay!), so she went ahead and told me to come in today for the standard Day 21 blood work. I'd obviously told her my usual cycles are in the 32-35 day range, but I didn't think about the fact that the Day 21 blood work is probably timed more appropriately for a 28 day cycle until I got home. Looking into it some more, and it seems like that blood work is meant to show a rise in hormones that builds up in the week or so after ovulation. Meanwhile, my OPKs started showing a surge Saturday afternoon and continued through yesterday, and this morning I had a temp spike, so I think I ovulated yesterday. I called back my doctor's office this morning to ask if it was actually the appropriate time for me to come in for these tests because 1) I was pretty sure I just ovulated yesterday, based on OPKs and temping, and 2) my understanding is the Day 21 tests are based on a 28 day cycle, and mine is clearly longer than that. The nurse took my question to the doctor, but the doctor said I should still come in because the tests need to be on Day 21. I'm feeling like this is a little bit of a yellow flag, but I also don't want to be a person who acts like they know better than a medical professional. Any insight into why she may be insisting on doing the tests today, rather than tailoring them to my actual cycle? I'm stressing now because even though I know rationally that if I get back a test showing low levels of the appropriate hormones that is completely to be expected, considering where I know myself to be in my cycle, I think it's still going to freak me out to see that result on an emotional level. Any guidance you all can offer would be much appreciated, and thanks for reading all this!

  • @the_most_happy I'm so happy to hear you are on track for a normal cycle! Welcome back. I wish I had some insight to your question, but I have no idea. Hoping someone has some answers for you.

    Month/Cycle: 1/1

    CD/DPO: 24/8

    Timing: -1 AI

    Typical LP length: 13

Testing: try again on wed or Thur

R/R: we just had family up, which was so nice. I am exhausted and there is a lot to do as far as cleaning from having company. It will keep me busy this next week. Rant:*TW LC*

DS is very intolerant to dairy. My niece (8) is intolerant to dairy but not as much, was eating Doritos and dropped on our stairs and left her napping on our coffee table. Of course DS was the first to find both. Hopefully his reaction isn't too bad or painful for him. I think due to the lack of severity in her intolerance and her age, she doesn't take his seriously. Drives me crazy.

@the_most_happy Hi and welcome back! So nice to see you here and about your cycle being “regular” this month! I can shed some light to your question. The Day 21 testing is meant to measure your progesterone And estradiol levels (and possibly also male hormones, an indicator of PCOS) and that really should happen 7DPO or “mid-luteal phase”. So there’s definitely some incorrect information being given to you. A rise of progesterone above a certain threshold means you’ve ovulated. It’s kind of pointless to check for that earlier in the cycle (i.e. your actual day 21) since it would (should) reveal 0 progesterone. So if you ovulated yesterday, technically you’d be testing next Sunday though presumably the Dr office will be closed. In which case you’d go in on Monday at 8DPO. What you should really do it call back and confirm that that’s what they’ll be testing and confirm that you should come in 7DPO. Do not get off the phone until you get those answers!

@Kenneylynn3 so happy to hear the family get together went well! Minus the Doritos incident of course.

    CD/DPO: 23/8

    Timing: -4, -1, 0

    Typical LP length: 11-12

Testing: tested with Proov yesterday, today and 2 more days. Still see a test like (but only barely) that means low progesterone, but definitely re-confirms O. I was gonna do a HPT tomorrow before my RE appointment but at 9DPO I think it would be wasting a test. I generally start spotting a few days b/f AF so if I’m not spotting by 7/23, will test then.

R/R: rave - I met up with a friend at a park on Saturday for a socially distanced walk and lounge in the meadow; it was so nice to see another hooman! I hadn’t seen her since January.

rant - we had moved in March and had been waiting for IKEA to open to pick up a couple of furniture pieces that we needed for our bigger home. We wanted a dresser identical to the one we already have. Well holy cow, to get it was like searching for treasure: it wasn’t available for purchase from online store, the stores closest to us didn’t have all the required pieces, so DH drove to the next nearest store... they also didn’t have all the required pieces and there he discovered that they were discontinuing this piece. Finally he drove to another store 1.5hrs away where thankfully they had the missing pieces. But because it was the weekend, he needed to wait for 1hr in the line even though he arrived just after the store opened. Argh. We keep saying “no more IKEA furniture” but it’s so practical. We’ve decided that (hopefully) our next house will be our “forever home” so definitely no more IKEA stuff.

CS/Q: temp dipped yesterday which it does every LP for me so not reading into it. Back up today according to FF (Tempdrop) but same according to Premom but I temped 40 min earlier as I had to pee and it was also cold in our room.

  • @the_most_happy welcome back! Is your Dr testing for other things as well (for example, thyroid?) There are some basic tests that won't matter where in your cycle you are, so if those are being drawn as well I'd probably go in and get them done. Then when the results come back later this week (and you hopefully talk to your Dr or a PA) if there's something abnormal you can let them know you o'd yesterday and see if they want you back again. Just my 2¢

@Kenneylynn3 I hope he is ok! Is this family you see often? Hopefully next time she's more aware!

    Month/Cycle: 15/13

CD/DPO: 18/5 (finally got crosshairs today!)

    Timing: 0, -2, -4

    Typical LP length: 11-14

    Testing: maybe Friday

R/R: it's still super hot here. I made a list for this week and am already crossing stuff off which makes me feel good! We were supposed to be in Disney this week so I'm feeling a bit 😭 about that and thinking about everything we had planned today - I was so excited about our dining reservations for this trip!

CS/Q: I'm excited I finally got CH- since I've been thinking about whether or not I O'd the past 4 days I feel like the TWW is shorter 😂 feeling hopeful this cycle is "the one" since my temps were different even though logically I know that doesn't make a difference this early

  • @acleverusername we were trying to get an ikea dresser recently too and gave up. I ordered a loft bed from them at the end of June and it's not getting here until mid August! We always say no more Ikea but we have a small house and are at a time when a lot of our furniture needs are changing frequently so Ikea it is

@the_most_happy if she is insisting that you do the blood work today then I would insist on also getting BW next Monday so you can compare them and get the 7 dpo BW. If she wont agree to do the BW next Monday then I would maybe start looking for another Dr.
@Kenneylynn3 I spent an hour cleaning the kitchen last night after having my mom and her wife here this weekend! GL!
@acleverusername thanks for thinking of me this weekend. I don't usually check in on weekends plus we had guests. We cannot kick the IKEA furniture habit either. Maybe someday when we are *real* adults :D

    CD/DPO: 21/9

    Timing: -4, -2, 0, +1

    Typical LP length: 14 days

Testing: Proov tests all coming out positive so that's good; HPT Friday or Saturday

R/R: busy weekend and it's going to be a long week. Not feeling confident about this cycle but for no reason really. I hate the TWW I just want to get it over with so we can do the HSG and SA next cycle because I'm certain this one isn't it. Idk I guess we'll see.

@_orchid_ sorry you are missing Disney. I would be so upset too! We do see that family often. I think, because her intolerance was found later and it's not as bad, she doesn't take her own very seriously.

@_orchid_ they said to call on CD 1 and that they do the HSG on the day after your period ends. I would maybe clarify. I would assume it has something to do with potentially being KU. I would hate for you to not be able to have it done for some reason (other than being pregnant of course!).

@_orchid_ I am so sorry that what sounds like a pretty awesome trip isn't happening; were you able to defer it to a future time? I also keep reading into temp patterns that are different from previous cycles fully knowing it's like reading tea leaves. It doesn't make it less tempting though.

@krash_ yay for positive Proov tests! LOL at "real" adults; I'm convinced I'll never get there. I am 18yr old trapped in a body of a 36yr old. Maybe this not feeling like it's your cycle is a good thing! It's better than SS, right?

@Kenneylynn3 I _say_ I will wait to test, but will I?! Only time will tell. 😆

  • @Kenneylynn3 glad you got to visit with family this weekend, that's so frustrating about the Doritos issue though! Food allergy/intolerance issues are no joke, hope your DS is feeling okay today.

@acleverusername yay for your DH going the distance to get that dang dresser! Glad it worked out, I've been in that position before where I've put off getting something I need to complete a set or coordinate with an existing piece and then discover it's sold out or discontinued and it's such a stressful feeling.

@_orchid_ ughhh, that's the worst about your Disney trip. I'm so sorry! Ditto what someone else asked, are you going to reschedule? I had a trip scheduled for right at the outset of the pandemic that I obviously had to call off, and it was just the worst every day being like, "I was supposed to be doing X right now..."

@krash_ so sorry you're not optimistic about this cycle, isn't it weird how sometimes we just get a gut feeling about this stuff that defies explanation? Hoping your instincts are wrong on this one!

@inthewoods23 that's exciting about the new car, and yay for saving some money!

Thanks to @acleverusername, @_orchid_, and @_krash for your great answers to my question! Seriously, I feel so validated in suspecting something about this was off and am more confident now in pushing for what I know I need. I went ahead with the blood work this morning just in case there was some reason to do it that I wasn't aware of, but they should be calling in a day or two with results and I'm going to ask to get another round done in a week (side note- I HATE having blood drawn more than anything in the world, lucky me getting to do it twice). Thank you again, I really appreciate your insight!

@the_most_happy everyone else covered the Day 21/7 DPO thing, but I just wanted to add that I think you are right about it being a “yellow flag” and wait to see what they say about your results before you get too concerned. For example if they come back and say “your levels were X, we want you to come back in 5 days since you must have just ovulated” then it will be annoying but I know that some practices, especially if they are larger, have certain protocol they have to follow even if it doesn’t make sense for everyone (In this case, all patients getting CD 21 testing then adjusting based on the results). But if they say “your levels are X, something must be wrong”, then I’d definitely consider that a red flag!

@the_most_happy I went through this same thing with a previous OBGYN. Her reasoning for making sure I took the test on day 21 was because I "should" be ovulating before CD18 (I had been ovulating around CD21-22 which is considered late ovulation). We had been trying for several months at that point, so she put me on Clomid and I started ovulating around CD12-14.
