AFP screen came back positive

I had the blood draw for the AFP screen (neural tube screening) on Monday and the screen came back positive on Monday. My doctor said that I have a 1 in 21 chance of having a baby with a neural tube defect. She is sending me to a high risk doctor for another ultrasound to look at babies spinal cord. I have my apt later on today. I'm terrified, I have been a wreck since I got the test results. Obviously I want my baby to be healthy but I will love him no matter what. Has anyone else had any experience with this.

    @MelanieCSU I’m so sorry! I hope that you get good news at the ultrasound. Will they do the US today as well? Sending positive thoughts!

    @MelanieCSU i was having trouble interpreting my AFP results earlier this week and spoke to my best friend who had an issue with hers last year. She told me that she got that same 1/21 result with her daughter last year, and she was super upset.  they did more testing and an amnio and her daughter ended up being fine. They told her it was her hormone levels that triggered the ratio.
