OK, I know this is a day past but I have been thinking about this all week:
This would be very unpopular, but I wish the U.S. would just do a strict shut-down for the next 6-8 weeks. No school, no restaurants, no nothing! We should do what Italy did with their strict lockdown. They had 2 months of misery & now they're back to normal.
We have been doing half-assed lockdown across the U.S. for 4 months now and our country's health is the biggest s***show on the planet. I don't think kids or teachers should go back to school until this situation is seriously under control. I guess that's 2 UOs.
@keikilove I agree wholeheartedly. I'm so angry at how politicized the virus is in this country and how many people are rejecting science because it's inconvenient. Putting the economy before the lives of people is unacceptable. There's so much evidence and research that shows wearing masks significantly reduces transmission and spread of the virus. Looking at somewhere like New Zealand where the virus is basically gone because they did a strict lockdown and required face masks, it's totally doable! We just completely lack the leadership in this country for it to be realistic here. I don't understand all of the conspiracy theories circulating and the complete lack of care for other human beings happening in this country. I could rant about this for awhile. I totally agree with this too. The whole opinion of “if you are scared then stay home” drives me crazy. Because it’s not that easy. If the world is open, then employers are expecting you to act as though it is. If your kids can go to school, employers are expecting you to send them there. I could go on about this all day but I won’t haha
Lol yes yes yes! Definitely UO in some places but not here. Even still, DH counted the number of people not wearing masks on his run this morning (57/83) on our paved Creek trail and sent notes to our county and town saying the trail should be mask mandatory b/c it's impossible to be 6" apart. And we're in an a veryyyyy liberal area.
@keikilove yes yes YES. DH's family I don't even think has a single mask in their homes. And basically I'm like, if I'm KU either you are putting a fucking mask on to visit/be visited or you are not seeing me while I'm pregnant. DH completely agrees in that we have tried too damn long for family to jeopardize my health.
I am SO glad stores have started making masks mandatory. I'm pretty sure I heard a guy making a comment to his GF the other day about the stupidity of wearing a mask.
I seriously don't give a shit if a cloth mask doesn't 100% protect you, it's better than NOTHING.

@gingermama29 Agreed!! I just saw on the news that some California churches are suing because they believe that singing in the choir is a God-given right that no government can take away. Good God, I sing in the choir too but I’m not an idiot! A few months without singing together will not kill the songbirds. To turn something scientific into something political is so bizarre. But I guess we’ve seen that pattern before...
@kvh22 Good for YH for writing that letter! Scientists say that when e exercise our breath/droplets have a 12-foot distance. So if he can’t get far away on that trail then everyone needs to wear masks.
@inthewoods23 Amen sister! We’ve had to wear masks since March here, to go into grocery stores & to pickup takeout orders, whatever. It’s just normal. And our cases were very low until they started to open back up a few weeks ago & travel picked up again. I completely agree with you having family wear masks around you when you’re KU.
@keikilove yes exactly!!! I'm a music teacher who also directs 3 choruses and a musical. I don't think I'm singing with my students at all unless we're distance learning or unless research shows a safe way to do it. This isn't hard! And this virus isn't going away any time soon, so the longer people fight the rules, the longer we all have to deal with this. So infuriating.
