@morethanmama and @tdevlindrye if you have Instagram, follow kids.eat.in.color! She’s got great posts! A friend just suggested her to me and I love her ideas for presentation of food etc.
@tdevlindrye I have the same issue. My kid’s ped says to “keep trying, sometimes it takes 10-20 touches for them to be willing to eat it” 😳 and we only give him pouches if they contain SOME kind of veggie. He used to eat ALL the veggies when he first started eating solids.
I am a huge believer in repeated exposure and divided plates! DD is a pretty darn good eater for a 4 year old. She will always try something new. But we never make her finish it if she doesn’t like it. Then after trying it “new” several times she will randomly decide she likes it. She said she HATED mangos for like 2 years and she just ate some last week again and all of a sudden loved them.
DD is pretty anti-vegetable, and generally picky. I usually give her just like cheese pizza when we have pizza. Lately she's been okay with pepperoni (she said it was too spicy before). The other day though she ate roasted red pepper on a pizza, and then asked me for all of mine off of my slice, then she ate tomato off the other kind we had. I was so proud! Lol. She's been anti-broccoli for a long time, which is sad. I love a good roasted or sauteed broccoli. I do still give her a couple pieces every time we have it. I'm holding out hope that one day she'll eat it...
I have followed feeding littles and love their stuff, I will check out your suggestion, @JLaVO888. DS was an amazing eater until 13 months. He went through a couple of months of feeling meh about anything we would give him, then he improved but definitely with some added pickiness. Since he is 2 now, he can communicate opinions and request food...which is always cheese, lol. But I think he is more curious, so last week he picked scallops off my seafood pasta, because it was "new". I keep exposing him to stuff as much as possible when I am not lazy. I think last night he liked the idea of the platter, plus saw our friend's daughter eating some, and he just dug in! Veggie wise he eats carrots, zucchini (on and off) and those corn/green beans/carrot frozen mixes. I sneak kale and spinach in muffins, and he loves those with almond butter. Green smoothies are also a hit. Broccoli have been a huge no no for a while though so I am glad he got some yesterday! He also loves all beans and lentils, and pasta...of course.
Also, yay! I passed my glocose test. Another thing I can check off. Can't believe my next ultrasound is at 32 weeks?? Like...how?? Last time I was going every 4 weeks, so between the anatomy and 32 weeks I had 3 ultrasounds!
ETA: @carrotsandpeas3 sorry if I missed it but if your H back from TX? How did things go?
@morethanamama congrats on the glucose test! I have mine next week.
MH got back Sunday night, and I think the trip went fine! He said he was glad he went and so far he and the rest of his family are symptom free. He said his mom gave him a little bit of a hard time that I didn't come and that he refused to go to church in person with them, but other than that, it was uneventful. He was glad he visited now while his grandma was still well enough to visit with. Plus, she ended up getting out of the rehab the day he got there. So lucky!
I’ve been unable to get comfortable today. I’m not sure why - this pregnancy has been so easy so far and I’m just crabby and unable to sit or lay down comfortably. I feel weighted down or something, it’s an odd feeling. I’m not sure if it’s because I got barely any sleep or what. 😩
Yay for passing the glucose test! I also passed recently, but have noticed that it has made it easier for me to justify eating like an asshole (because 'my body is processing sugar so well...'), so I'm going to have to reign it in a bit, haha.
Has anyone planned out maternity photos yet? We booked ours to do next month, but I'm feeling kind of not into it and I don't know what to wear.
I’ve never done maternity or newborn photos and this is my third. 🤦🏼♀️ We did a family mini session in the fall last year that I loved though. MY do that again. My local girl is amazing. Again, all depends on where COVID is at by then.
@morethanamama I’m so glad you passed your glucose test. I just got okayed to monitor it from home in a few weeks. So thankful because I still throw up if I don’t eat the moment I get up.
Also on the maternity photo shoot, this makes me so thankful to be dating my boyfriend. He brought home lights and such that he uses for work in case I want to do one. No appointment needed, and no risk to Covid. I just told him I don’t want to do anything with flowers in my hair or a flowy dress. I don’t know if that’s my unpopular opinion (I know wrong thread), but I strongly dislike those photos.
I don't do maternity photos but I did book newborn+family photos (plus 6mo and 1 year because package) with the same photographer we used when DD was born!
Like @animalandplantrescuer my husband does some photography for work and we own a professional camera. He also has a bunch of lights and a tripod that don't need to be given back until end of year, so I will ask him to do a few maternity shoots! He will do some newborn shoots and the hospital too. I do want a short family session so I might book something affordable and do a few photos in our yard depending on Covid...
I’m planning on doing maternity/family photos in August or September. Our wedding photographers have become our good friends so we will probably plan a hike somewhere and have them take photos of all of us. We never did any professional photos of DS so I’d like to have some. I don’t like photos that look too staged with props and such so it will be nice to just do it outside in the mountains. Also, it will be easy to socially distance while hiking and being outdoors for the pictures.
All your plans for maternity shoots make me so envious! I'm so sentimental and it killed me not to have those photos to remember my baby by last time so of course I just want to get some done this time so badly but on reduced income I can't justify spending the money 😩
On a completely different note, can you believe that there's now a March 2021 due date group? It absolutely blows my mind.. how are we so far along?!?
@kalesix3 Right?! One of my coworkers today told me that when I get back from maternity leave, he might be out because his wife is due Jan 5. It seems so much further out than October, but she’s already at 16 weeks which is almost halfway, which made me go “whoa.” Of course, I keep thinking it’s May and it’s actually July so what do I know. 🤷🏼♀️
My maternity shoot is scheduled for July 24th. I'm not big on the flowy dress, flower crown type of maternity pics either. And I wanted to do them early enough that I have a cute bump instead of a holy-crap-I'm-a-whale bump, so that's why I chose to do them at 27ish weeks instead. Here's some of the pics I sent to my photographer for inspiration (she has a private beach near where she lives). I've been doing pinup modeling since 2007, so this look is very fitting for me and suits me well; I'm comfortable The swimsuit I purchased is solid black, and my black parasol should be delivered today or tomorrow.
Sleep is becoming more elusive... stupid acid reflux wakes me up in the middle of the night and persists for hours. If it were happening during waking hours that would be one thing, but 1am is just annoying.... le sigh.
I reached out to a couple photographers to see about availability. But no word yet. I'm still a little on the fence about it, but also want some sort of nice photos of me all preggo my eggo. I would really live to do some photos fancy, and a couple super casual.
@baseballismyfavoriteseason@JLaVO888 exactly! I'm on a private FAM group and I just saw a lady that was trying in January but didn't end up getting pregnant just went in for a gender scan and she's due in January, it blows my mind but it's not like time stopped when I got pregnant or anything.. this year has just been such a blip so far. I can't believe it's already July. 😳
@babyodo that's such an amazing -outside the floral crown box- idea for a shoot, I love it!
@kalesix3 Ooh is that FAM group here on TB or somewhere else? Would it be possible to get an invite to that or is it only for people who are actively TTGP? FAM is the most “crunchy” thing I do, and no one else I know does it! Also, not only is it already July, but we’re 1/3 of the way through July!
@tdevlindrye I have maternity photos scheduled for August 25th. I wasn’t going to do them, but we’ve done them for every other baby and I feel bad not doing them for this one.
I had an amazing opportunity come up this week. I graduated in June with my Masters in Social Work. Before COVID hit and I was taken out of my internship, the manager of the hospice center where I’ve done a lot of work asked me if I would interview for her open social worker position. Of course I said yes, and then didn’t hear anything more because COVID and then they froze the position. I talked with the other social worker and she said she thought it would be January before it was hired for. That was great for me and I was at peace with not going back to work or making use of my Masters degree after 3 years of hard work. And then this week I get this phone call and I have an interview scheduled for Wednesday at 2pm. They don’t know I’m pregnant (a few others do but I’m assuming the manager doesn’t know). Legally I know they can’t ask, but we all know the reality of pregnancy and motherhood in the workplace. I’m her #1 candidate (that’s what she told me when she asked me to interview back in March), so I’m torn with what to do if I get an offer. Do I accept and just set expectations that I’ll be on maternity leave from October through the end of the year? Try to negotiate a January start? Or decline all together?
@annarach That’s awesome!!! Congratulations on finishing your masters!!! I know that’s a huge accomplishment. My major was social sciences with an emphasis in social services, so that degree is right up my alley. Unfortunately I don’t have any advice on what to do with your conundrum. But good luck on Wednesday!
@annarach That’s tough, but in this kind of job climate it’s a great problem to have! I don’t see any reason to decline the offer?! The nice thing about them knowing you is that you might be able to have a more candid conversation. Are you able to have a discussion—obviously, I am pregnant, but I would really like this job, and what are your thoughts about delaying my start date vs working for a short time and then taking leave—rather and be flexible with what their preference is, or do you feel like you need to go in with a take-it-or-leave-it proposal? If they were considering freezing the hire until January anyway, they might really like that? Definitely GO, knock the interview out of the park, and then go from there! I guess the only reason I can think of to decline would be if they say, “no, we need you to start now, and we can’t give you leave” or something like that...
@annarach I agree with @baseballismyfavoriteseason. I would 100% interview, rock it, and then offer to either work for a short time before leave or to start in January depending on what they need/you're comfortable with. But I definitely wouldn't decline automatically or not interview because of it. Good luck!!!
thanks so much for all your kind and thoughtful replies. I agree that I need to go in and rock the interview, and then see where the offer goes, if it goes. I’m going to remain positive because I’ve already been told I’m her number one candidate and that means something, right? I mean, there will be a learning curve because I’m a new grad, but I do think I’m the perfect fit for the role (and the agency). I’m so excited to just be asked to interview. It’s my dream job and I know even the interview will be a great learning experience.
@an@animalandplantrescuer Did you have to do an internship at all? Some of my classmates who have their undergrad in social services did their internship with the state (CPS stuff). That’s not my jam, but God bless those who can. I love working in hospice. And I really hope I can land a job there when the time is right.
@annarach I did have to do an internship. I did it with the local Area Agency on Aging. I considered getting into gerontology. Unfortunately it wasn’t my jam because it was just answering phones to find services. It’s very needed just wasn’t my jam.
@animalandplantrescuer that’s my one fear going into this job is the discharge planning. When I was at my internship last summer, I spent nearly 3 weeks finding placement for a Medicaid patient. No one would take her and it was a nightmare. I know there will be things about every job that aren’t great, but spending time on the phone finding placements is not my thing. Fortunately it doesn’t happen very often. Most of the patients who come to the hospice center die there because they’re at the very end of life. But we have to start the discharge planning conversation from the start in the event they are stable enough to leave.
@annarach I have several friends who have done SW in hospice! I worked in a SW position for a while for an inpatient psych hospital. I interviewed for my current job this January and jokingly told them during my interview that my husband and I were planning on starting a family soon just so they knew in case I signed my contract and then got pregnant... we literally found out I was pregnant the week I started at the job. If this is a job that you think you will love and be amazing at sell that! Sell the fact that you will put your all into it. Heck maybe you can get all your training done before the baby is born so you can hit the ground running in January.
@aefsparrow I completely understand if you aren’t comfortable comIng to the private Facebook group, but I want you to know you were brought up as one of the regulars still missing. I can say I would love for you to make the move over. ❤️
@animalandplantrescuer my link didnt work because I had her send it to my new email instead of my old one. I sent her my old one, but haven't gotten a new link yet... trust me I am sad.
@mammatoomc Hey! I know you had expressed interest in a FB group in the poll, but I don't think you ever posted in the 'FB Vote In' thread. If you're still interested in joining, make a post in that thread! People are still keeping an eye on it.
