Convertible crib question

We went looking at cribs the other day and I noticed that a lot of the convertible cribs don't have a front that comes down so you can get the baby out. ?Have any of you had a problem with that? ?Especially shorter people. ?I'm only 5'2" so I was wondering if I would have a problem getting the baby out when the mattress is lowered.

?

opinions??

Re: Convertible crib question

  • DH was dead set against a drop down (an engineer who thinks in terms of "the more moveable parts, the more likely it is to fail/falter at some point, which was not acceptable" blah blah.  Anyway, by the time you lower the crib mattress to the bottom, DC will probably be sitting up and able to lay down on his/her own- so you just need to get him there.  Now that I am pregnant again I am worried about it with DD, but will use a stool if I need to.

  • I am 5'3" and we have a convertible that doesn't have a drop side.  It isn't difficult putting DD down or getting her up and our crib is on the lowest setting.  The issue that I have is that when DD is sleeping (and the mattress is on the lowest setting), I can't lean over the rail and give her a kiss.  It's not that big of a deal.  I normally kiss my fingertips and than touch her head.

  • By the time the mattress is lowered the baby is able to pull up and stand.  It's still hard for me to pick up DS...I'm 5'0" and have a very bad back.  At least he could stand up for me to pick him up out of his crib...but it hasn't been easy.
