Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: pomegranate/chipmunk 🐿/Poptart
Upcoming appointments: anatomy scan on 7/31
How are you feeling: generally really well, although the constant vivid dreams and nighttime wakeups are making me sleepy.
Rants/Raves: rant - a lady at the grocery store yelled at me for glaring at her for not wearing a mask...when there is a state mandate to do so! #sorrynotsorry jerk - you're entirely in the wrong here, and selfish to boot.
rave - despite not going anywhere this year, MH and I had a great anniversary at home. DIY surf & turf (grilled steak tips and take-out lobster rolls) for lunch, delicious carrot cake, and several long family walks. I even had a few sips of Tattinger champagne - worth the nearly-instant heartburn
Questions: does anyone have a 3 row or 3-row optional SUV that they really love? Since MH and I both work from home normally anyways and use 1 car primarily for daycare trips, we've decided to consolidate to 1 family car that will have enough room for 2 reverse-facing carseats and the dog. We have a few things in mind but I’d love to hear raves!
GTKY: What is your favorite dessert/sweet treat? Carrot cake w/cream cheese frosting, funfetti cake w/rainbow chip icing...and with both babies, pie! Especially apple and strawberry rhubarb.
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a croissant!
Upcoming appointments: 8/4 for anatomy scan
How are you feeling: great! Feeling a little large, but still in most of my pre-pregnancy clothes (except jeans but it’s too hot for those anyway). Have been moving around way more, trying to get back into my hobbies while I still have the free time!
Rants/Raves: RAVE - We are going on vacation for a week on Saturday! Rented a house with a pool at the beach and a boat for the week. I can’t wait for a break from the monotony of our house.
Questions: none
GTKY: What is your favorite dessert/sweet treat? (stolen from an earlier Nov board)
I love soft serve ice cream! Also a Baked Alaska is the absolute best dessert. candy wise a melon or mango pack of Hi-Chews is my fave
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Hockey Puck (weight)
Upcoming appointments: 7/28 telehealth with high risk since I've had the sleeve, 8/4 for AS and regular doc
How are you feeling: Fine, overall normal
Rants/Raves: I bought a new laptop for better video quality with zoom, and speakers and mic are messed up! I can't exchange since they're now sold out so I have to send in my brand new laptop for repair. UGH.
Questions: Nothing.
GTKY: What is your favorite dessert/sweet treat? (stolen from an earlier Nov board) right now, none. They don't do it for me. Before, red velvet cake.
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: a creme brûlée
Upcoming appointments: 7/28 A/S
How are you feeling: pretty good and my DH is working from home for the foreseeable future, so he can usually cover for me with the kids if I am feeling bad
Rants/Raves: I wasn’t comfortable with my kids doing the usual group swim lessons this year, but we’re in MO so things aren’t that bad here right now and I signed the them up for private lessons through the parks department. It was at the pool that only does the baby swim class and 1 private lesson at a time in the mornings and it was awesome! There were only 7 moms with their babies in the 1 ft section of the pool and us. Plus they have a splash fountain on the pool deck, so tomorrow I plan on putting my toddler in her swimsuit so she can splash while the other two take their turns for lessons. My kids really needed this, and I am so happy that we can do it in a way that minimizes the risk!
Questions: None
GTKY: What is your favorite dessert/sweet treat? (stolen from an earlier Nov board) Normally I like fruit based things: fruit pies, strawberry shortcake, black cherry ice cream, but when I’m pregnant anything goes!
@luckypenny11 That sounds like a nice anniversary. My DH and I had our anniversary at home last week too! As for the car, we used to have a Chevy Traverse, and it was great for when we had 2 kids! Now I have a Honda Odyssey minivan with magic seating and I love it even more! If you’re planning to stop after 2 kids, the Traverse has a lot of space and is really nice. Any more than that and it is difficult to access the 3rd row seats with 2 rear-facing car seats in the 2nd row.
@shelmcclel Have fun on your vacation! I’m jealous! Beach vacations are the best!
@willashbaby my DH’s family is obsessed with red velvet cake, and now my kids are too! It isn’t my favorite, but I find myself making it with increasing regularity. I always keep a box mix in my pantry along with the frosting ingredients. Recently the kids have decided to have random “surprise parties” for each other which really seems to be just an excuse to make a cake! 😂
@luckypenny11 so we will only have 1 car seat but also have a 110 lb dog so in the same situation. Currently I have the Acura MDX, but our dog takes up a full 2 of the 3 seats in the 2nd row so he’s going to be squished once we add the car seat. Next spring I want to switch to a 3-row SUV with split middle seats so that our dog can lay on the floor in the middle of the 2nd row. We are looking at the Volvo XC90, Toyota Highlander/4-Runner/Sequoia & the Infiniti q80. Might also take a look at some of the GMC SUVs. We road trip often and we bring a lot of stuff (my husbands fishing gear alone is crazy) even without a baby so we need something bigger than what we’ve got now.
@readermom1 - putting the Traverse on the list to investigate, thanks for the tip! MH is in love with the idea of ventilated seats, so I'm excited to see that those are an option for some of the trim levels.
@shelmcclel - we test drove an XC90 and it's niiiiiice. We currently have a Subaru Outback and deal with snow for several months, so I'm pretty set on sticking with AWD and something with reasonable ground clearance. I'm sure experienced baby parents have packing down to a science, but MH and I brought SO much stuff with us on our family weekend away (to be fair, we used all of it and it made our lives a lot easier). The XC90, Highlander, and Ascent have the most room behind the 2nd row of the things we're looking at.
@luckypenny11 haha I’m the same way - I basically transplant the kitchen and game area of our house when we go to a vacay house lol and we do this a lot! It’s a lot of work to pack a ton of stuff but it makes vacay that much better! We have it down to a science now so it’s an efficient packing process, and Have gotten quite good at putting the puzzle of stuff into our car! But I know we’re about to have that much more stuff.
I haven’t test driven anything yet, but great to know about the space between the 1st & 2nd row on those models. That is definitely a huge consideration for us. I’m literally going to ask the dealerships if I can bring my dog by and let him jump in the car to see how he fits. If any of them tell me no, then that car is not for me, lol
Interesting Baby Fact/Baby is the size of: Sweet potato
Upcoming appointments: Anatomy scan later this month!
How are you feeling: Feeling good this week! Sleeping better, despite still waking up for the bathroom a lot.
Rants/Raves: Rant- I wish I could feel baby more consistently. They said they thought I have an anterior placenta and I would like to feel baby more for some reassurance. It was definitely more noticeable to me the first time.
Questions: None
GTKY: What is your favorite dessert/sweet treat?: Ooh picking a favorite is hard! Probably ice cream if I had to choose.
