Product Spotlight/Questions (highlight pregnancy/maternity/baby product(s) you love or have questions about)

so I bought this Bourbon & Boweties bracelet for myself the other day and haven’t seen it before & love it 😍

I also am waiting for my free Amazon gift box for creating a registry on there (which I mostly just filled with books). Excited to get it!

Any other questions/concerns/worries? Is anyone else planning on doing a private ultrasound so your SO can be there with you? I’m trying to decide what timing would be best since our last OB U/S will be at 20 weeks.

GTKY: what has been your most favorite & least favorite parts of this pregnancy so far?

Most Fave: oddly its been watching this bump grow and experiencing symptoms that are timely which tells me this little girl is growing on schedule! Even though I’m frustrated with the fit of my clothes, and hated the nausea - it’s all been oddly comforting to my anxiety.

Least Fave: covid-19 really ruining the typical pregnancy experience, uncontrollable nausea and vomiting, and other people’s unwanted advice & opinions!

EDD, Weeks + Days, Gender, Baby is the size of _______: Dec 29th, 14w1d, a peach

Product Spotlight/Questions (highlight pregnancy/maternity/baby product(s) you love or have questions about): Decided to focus on one item at a time to get my head around it all (at least, for the big things). Currently investigating strollers. Do I need a travel system to use a stroller with a newborn? Or is that just to get a car seat that fits with the stroller? Generally the kid would be in the car maybe once a week, if that, as I walk or take public transportation to work (and where the daycare will hopefully be). We also may take cabs occasionally, so the idea of a seat that can work in a taxi/Uber is appealing, but not necessary.

My main "wants" are: one-hand fold, easy to maneuver on narrow/bumpy sidewalks, folds up for storage, and relatively light (we have stairs leading up to the house, and for public transit I'd be walking up/down some steps, so need something where I could manage with the kid in one hand and stroller in the other). I think my top choices right now are the Britax B-Lively and the Baby Jogger Mini City GT2. Also debating getting a light umbrella stroller that might be easier when we travel, maybe the Maclaren Mark II?

Any other questions/concerns/worries? Not really, right now I think all my questions are "stuff" related

GTKY: what has been your most favorite & least favorite parts of this pregnancy so far? I find the changes to my body to be fascinating. Least favorite is definitely the fatigue. I just find it really frustrating, makes me feel useless.
  • @akoros my friends in NY love the City Mini! I am opting not to get a travel system bc I don’t want a bassinet (will use the car seat as a carrier or an infant adapter for the stroller seat until she’s big enough) and I wanted flexibility on car seat vs stroller options. None of the “systems” come with everything I was looking for in a car seat. I’m not overly concerned about dealing with a stroller adapter for the car seat since it’s doubtful we’ll use them together very often.  But that’s just my 2 cents!

I’m opting to wait to get an umbrella stroller until she can use one, also technology/options may change by then, but I think it’s going to be a necessity!

Thanks, @shelmcclel! I'm debating the pros/cons of a traveler system vs. separate car seat (of course, I haven't ventured into car seats just yet, maybe next week!). That's a good point that we probably won't use them together very much, particularly in the beginning. My parents said that the umbrella stroller was my favorite, over the heavy fancy stroller they bought, and was far easier to maneuver, so while we may not get one immediately it's definitely on my list once the little guy's big enough

Product Spotlight/Questions (highlight pregnancy/maternity/baby product(s) you love or have questions about):

Ack, I’m probably an outlier here in that I HATE shopping and I HATE stuff. I think it’s from living 10 years in an NYC apartment but I just hate things that take up space. So I have not at all been excited to think about products. I’ve been reluctantly putting a registry together but it gives me so much stress.

Anyway, the big things for us have been a sleep system (thinking of renting a Snoo) and stroller. Right now we’re looking at the Baby Trend Expedition jogger / travel system because we’d love one that can do it all.

    Any other questions/concerns/worries?

    Not really!

GTKY: what has been your most favorite & least favorite parts of this pregnancy so far?

I really had an awful first trimester between being sick and having bleeding worries. I was in such a miserable place and worries every day about baby. But now, seeing my belly grow and feeling baby wiggle around, I feel like I can actually enjoy myself! I’m just fascinated by my own body.

And my boobs have grown like at least 2-3 cup sizes, it’s amazing!

Product Spotlight/Questions (highlight pregnancy/maternity/baby product(s) you love or have questions about): I’m loving my maternity shorts right Now to wear under my normal summer dresses! Just feels like they smooth everything out!

    Any other questions/concerns/worries?
    Nadda

GTKY: what has been your most favorite & least favorite parts of this pregnancy so far?
fav has been embracing a growing body which is new for me because I’ve struggled so hard to stay thin all my life and least fav is Covid taking away the opportunity for me to meet other moms by taking live prenatal fitness classes and whatnot!

@laurenspdx we are also settled on getting the snoo. It’s a major expense (and according to friends who did not have one we’re gambling too much on it - but friends that did use one swear by how great it is). We decided to the extent it actually gives us any amount of regular extra sleep that it’s worth it.
  • @shelmcclel Same! I can’t put a price tag on good sleep. I also like the idea of renting because it saves from wasting an item that we’ll only really use for 4-6 months. If there wasn’t a rental option, it’d be out of the question but it’s essentially the cost of a couple nights out a month so it’s justifiable!
