Re: TTTC Check-In June 2020

  • @inthewoods23 Thanks for keeping the check ins running. I've been so busy with the end of the school year virtually.  How are you doing? What's your updates?

QOTW Sadly the thing I was looking forward to most for summer, our trip to Switzerland, we had to cancel. But I'm hoping to do our first FET in June so fingers crossed that will be a huge positive for the summer!

  • @2dogsmom really nothing for me to update right now. Still going at it naturally. We have good timing this month though and DH has been on his supplements for about 2.5-3 months now so I'm hoping that helped his sperm toughen up and give us a better chance. A trip to Switzerland sounds amazing! The trip we do with DH's family to a lake every summer got cancelled too, but I'm hoping we can maybe find a little vacation somewhere just the 2 of us.

Did you ever update on how your 2nd ER went? Better results I hope!

QOTW: With the usual vacation cancelled, I look forward to just having lots of time of DH and I together. While this pandemic sucks, I'm also grateful that it has slowed life down a bit and feeling like I have more time. I've been working with a therapist since March who is doing a good job so far at helping me be a better person mentally. I'm still feeling a little stressed and rushed with things, but it's been easier for me to let things slide because I know things will get done when I get to it and it's not that big of a deal if I let things sit in a sad state for more than I'd really like.

  • @inthewoods23 how amazing would if be if the natural method worked for you?! Glad you can enjoy some time home with hubby & sounds like the therapist is helping you feel less stressed which is awesome!

My second ER was quite the experience....We had 31 eggs which was great, but the pain was crazy. I ended up at home that night in so much pain I could barely breathe, and finally around midnight gave up and went into the emergency room (not somewhere I really wanted to be during a pandemic).  But feeling much better now.  Of the 31 eggs they collected 18 fertilized properly and 14 made it to blast. Of those 14 only 4 were pgs normal, which was a bit disappointing, but hopefully our FET will work and we won't need more!  We really want two kids so crossing fingers it's enough!   We transfer embryo B on Tuesday!
  • @2dogsmom 4 normals isn't bad at all! GL!

  • @inthewoods23 sorry I have been so mia recently! Sad to hear your lake trip got cancelled, but like you said hopefully you can find some time just you and DH. How is the GF/DF diet going??

@2dogsmom congratulations on 4 pgs normal! That is exciting, fingers crossed the FET went well.. Sorry to hear the egg retrieval was so traumatic. Any advice for our first IVF cycle?

So IUI #2 failed and we are moving forward with IVF. I started BC last week and my egg retrieval will be the week of August 10th. Will be kind of nice to have some down time in July, i honestly needed just a little bit of a "break".

QOTW: Looking forward to summer nights outside on our Adirondack chairs!
  • @nina205 as sad as it sounds, today I'm kinda grateful we're not going because I'm fairly certain AF will show today which means our FW would be during that trip and the last thing I want to do is have to try for a baby and be as quiet as possible since the house is small with thin doors.

Diet is going pretty good. I think I've finally leveled off on the weight loss - fine by me. DH is actually interested in eating some GF. Not sure if that's because of all the weight I've lost and he'd like to lose too, or if he's decided some of the food isn't actually bad.

Enjoy your little break this summer. I first hated the long time I had between my retrieval and my first FET but honestly, the break in-between was nice. We had been so go go go with the IUIs and started the ER process shortly after so being on BC for 2 months was worth it.

Hi everyone, I’m new to the community (see intro post for basic deets), and looking forward to getting to know you all.

Dx: still unknown at this point, Rx: weight loss, Clomid trial

We are still in the early stages of our work up, which has been slowed by COVID (grrr). Can anyone tell me if there is a “standard” approach to the work up? I like my OB/GYN, but sometimes she makes me feel like I worry too much, which I guess might be true?

@2dogsmom sorry to hear about your Switzerland trip, COVID got our Ireland trip this summer too.

@inthewoods23 How did you settle on GF/DF? DH and I have been doing weight watchers and I think it’s helping to create some better habits. Does anyone else find that TTC creates bad habits with food, or is that just me?

  • @bbrahmbhatt it's a bit of a story, but the jist is - went through the ER then had a transfer that failed. Before transferring another embryo we did BW that was basically RPL testing, then had a biopsy of my lining taken for an ERA and Receptiva test. These tests checked if my uterus was receptive to an embryo to make sure the timing was right, and whether there was any inflammation preventing implantation (essentially a really mild endo). Both came back normal. My RE has those patients, who all have negatives/normal results for all their tests go gluten and dairy free for at least 3 months before doing another transfer. Apparently they have had 100% success with the diet change. So I started transitioning my diet in late January.

I was supposed to have a transfer at the end of March (not even quite at 3 months under the diet) but they started to work with patients to cancel what they could (my clinic was cancelling through all of April) because of covid. I could have opted to continue and do the transfer since I had just started taken the estradiol, but I wasn't far enough along that I was at the point of no return (which I'm assuming would have been if I had started taking the progesterone). We chose to cancel since all the stuff with covid was still fairly widely unknown. I actually ended up being really sick on the day that my transfer would have been so I don't even know if they would have allowed it!

With the cancellation, we thought, if we can just get DH's sperm to be more robust (his morphology seems to be the only possible issue) and I stay on the diet, maybe we can conceive naturally after all. When you consider the number of eggs retrieved down to the number of embryos we ended up with, it came out to around 20% which matches the typical "you have 20% chance of conceiving every month". So, we're going to do that probably through the summer and maybe a little bit into the fall and if we don't find success we'll go back and try the 2nd transfer.
