I was looking at cute baby knotted gowns last night on Caden Lane and most of them have matching mommy robes. Do any of you suggest getting a maternity/delivery robe for the hospital? I really would love one, especially for at home afterwards nursing. And I don't think right now our hospital is doing the newborn photos that they normally do because of COVID but I'm not sure, but if they were I'd love to have the matching set. I'm also afraid it would get stained since birth and after is so bloody... lol. They just look so comfortable!

I also am wondering if a gown would be too hard to take baby home in. I'd have to untie it to buckle him in his carseat, obviously. But I wanted one for cute photos in his bassinet at the hospital even if it's just with my cell phone, along with the cute hat and swaddle set I bought. I'm not sure what to do!

  • @mamahosch I bought a robe for delivery/post partum. I DEFINITELY used it a ton once I got home and do think I used it a little in the hospital but it wasn't as necessary there. I didn't buy a matching set though and just bought the pumpkin swaddle set to take photos of baby at the hospital for this one. Plus, I will probably just bring a muslin swaddle to take a few more photos of baby. Will bring baby home in an actual outfit since needs to be strapped in.
  • @carrotsandpeas3 I ordered the pumpkin swaddle set too yesterday, and good thing because it's already out of stock! It's so cute! I might get an olive or sage green robe to kind of match :) I'm still on the hunt for my take home outfit. Etsy has some really cute embroidered monogram footie sets... but they're like $50. Though it would be the cutest keepsake with baby's name to have!
  • @mamahosch definitely used the robe for postpartum, I would not invest in a gown...things get really messy. I did use the robe at the hospital. I wasn't super into matching stuff at the time and also I went into labor unexpectedly a week before my due date so I didn't really do any nice photos. This is my last baby, so doing a bit more :) I have a matching robe and an outfit from Posh Peanut, it was expensive ($97) but it's buttery soft! I plan on using that as her coming home outfit (It'a a onesie+ pants)  and perhaps take some photos at the hospital with the robe as well, if not for sure at home. I also want that pumpkin swaddle and went to buy it this AM and I am SO BUMMED it's sold out but I am pretty sure it will be restocked before the fall.
  • I love that several of our babies are going to be in pumpkin swaddles this fall!  It’ll be fun to see all the pictures and how we all style them.  I ordered a gown from kindred braverly but it was on clearance for 9.99 at the time. I plan to wear it after this little guy is born.  It’s pink so I’m happy about that and at least I’m not in the drab hospital gown for photos after he’s born.  I might break down and find a robe to match the pumpkin swaddle set though.   We’ll see.  The practical side of me says I don’t need to spend a bunch of cash on a robe when I have a bunch already.
  • @mamahosch HUGE YES on the robe for post-delivery. My wardrobe in the hospital after giving birth was nursing bra, robe, comfy pants. Then I put a shirt on to go home, took it off at home, and didn’t put one back on until my ILs came to visit when he was two weeks old. 😂 I lived in that robe. I would bring a little sleeper for baby for going home... I don’t see a gown working very well in the car seat. But that doesn’t mean you can’t bring one for cute photos. 🙂 Are you doing newborn photos at home? You could always wear the matching set for those... I personally will not be getting a delivery gown for myself. It is SUPER messy. You could wear your robe for the early stages of labor and then change in to the hospital gown as you progress? I figure if I buy a cute one, then *I* have to wash the mess out. Okay, maybe more comfortable...? But the discomfort I remember from labor did NOT stem from having to wear a hospital gown. 😂
  • I bought a robe and used it during the beginning stage of labor. Once things started to progress and I was in/out of the birthing tub I never put any clothes back on 😳 so it didn’t get dirty! I was so hot that I couldn’t imagine having anything on! The robe was great for once I got home and I wore it all the time in the beginning. Unfortunately we never got any staged pics after DS’ birth. I was way too tired to even think about it and I just put him in the first outfit I pulled out of his diaper bag 🤣 to take him home! This time I found a grey pj outfit I hope to remember to use and then I’m planning on getting some cute matching outfits for DS and the baby to wear for pics once we get home.
  • @westslopemama I literally could not remember if I put the hospital gown back on after getting out of the tub, because yes I was SO HOT too! But I found a photo (my husband thought it was a good idea to take one when I was dilated to 10cm) and confirmed I did put it back on... at least for a little. 😂

I really didn't think too much about what I was planning to wear after delivery in the hospital.   A robe does sound like a good idea.  I ended up wearing a T-shirt and sweatpants which was comfortable but not cute.  I kept thinking that I wish I would have brought a different outfit or at least another option.  For some reason, I only packed one outfit.  I sent DH home to bring me more clothes while I was in the hospital.  In my mind at the time, I was thinking that I just needed an outfit to go home because I'll probably be wearing a hospital gown the rest of the time.  I will be packing more than one outfit this time.

Another option is the pea in the pod nursing pajamas. It has a button down top and pants. It is the softest pj set ever and looks presentable while being super cozy. It was very easy for docs and nurses to examine post delivery bc of the button down and looked good in pics and and for visitors. I still wear those PJs all the time bc they are so cozy.
  • For cute PJs, Target brand Stars and Beyond (??) Is super soft and shorts+ short sleeve sets are $25! I have 2 and plan to use them post delivery. They have long sleeve options too for those of you in cooler weathers.
  • I did buy some super soft and stretchy shorts and pants from target that I used a ton when I got home and am sure I will use again. Was nice to have something in a bigger size with a drawstring so I could just adjust it as I shrunk (slowly lol). I brought the shorts with me to the hospital and quickly realized I had no interest in wearing pants/shorts until I had to when I left the hospital. Also got my robe at target! They have great lounge wear.

@morethanamama I love that brand! They are so soft

I had a csection so was in the hospital for 3 nights and definitely used my robe, and wore a nursing tank underneath. I have a cute floral one, thinking of just finding a solid swaddle to match for baby pictures.

@morethanamama good to know- the oea in the pod PJs were an awesome discovery from a friend will def have to check out other options too!
  • The nursing PJ sets from Motherhood Maternity have been my favorites! They have a nursing cami, robe, and PJ pants. Highly recommend!
  • I used the robe I bought a ton after I delivered. I had a c-section and ended up staying two nights so it was nice to have for whenever people came to visit or for my walks around the nurses station. Plus our hospital provided me with a massage and a nice dinner. So I was able to throw it in for those things. I used it a lot at home too especially those first few days. I will say my friend bought a gown too and used it for delivery and regretted and told me to avoid using the nice things during the delivery and to wait for after.
  • Robe is a must! Prefect for breastfeeding and PP everything!
  • Any tips for the "taking all my clothes off at bedtime" period of toddlerhood? DD (who will be 2 next month) has taken her pants/shorts off the last 3 nights and then gets very upset until someone comes in to put them back on. It's warm enough that I've thought about just leaving her pants-less to start, but I'm afraid she would just move on to taking off the diaper. Pretty sure it's just an attention thing, but not really sure how to solve it.
  • @carrotsandpeas3 we had to put pj’s on inside out and backwards at one point with my daughter so she couldn’t get the zipper undone.    Maybe try this backwards.
  • Is she still in a sleep sack? We do sleep sack backwards sometimes. He did go through that phase a couple of months ago (he just turned 2) and honestly he was also taking off his diaper but it ended one day! I'm sure we'll go through it again...for now he mostly gets stubborn sometimes and doesn't want to change from his PJs to his clothes or requests particular shirts and such...two yo have SO MANY OPINIONS...
  • Thanks for the thoughts ladies! @morethanamama she's not in a sleep sack. Hasn't been for a long time. She generally wears just the shirt and pants/shorts PJ separates. We don't have any non-winter PJs that zip. 🤔 I really don't care if she takes them off, just would like the diaper to stay on and her to not suddenly be wailing when she should be falling asleep! I know it's probably a phase, just wasn't sure if I should just ride it and keep going back in to put her pants on or try some other approach.
  • @carrotsandpeas3 dd did this around this age. I mean she still wants to be naked even now and she’s almost 4. She never really took her diaper off or in the future her underwear. We did start doing a lot of nightgowns since then so then I wouldn’t even have to worry about the pants. I hate pants too. I wouldn’t worry about her taking the diaper off until she does it. J only did it once and got herself completely wet and never did it again. Maybe try just putting her to bed without the pants/shorts and sees what happens? J started dropping things purposefully out of her crib at this age to get my attention to come back in. Finally, I just out my foot down and refused to go and that stopped. Maybe she’s doing it to get you to come back?
  • @babycakesday I definitely think she's doing it to get me to come back. I tried ignoring it the other day and she howled for over an hour until I finally came in. Guess I'm the weak one! I might try without shorts tonight and see how it goes.
  • Dd never would have last for an hour. She would’ve given up at like 10 minutes. So I would have caved a lot sooner than you did. Maybe just go back and refuse to put them back in? Hope the no shorts works and you don’t have to worry about it anymore.
  • Has anyone had a postpartum doula? I have never used a doula of any sort but my IPs offered to hire one for me for a few days and I'm not sure if I want one or not!
